Due to the lingering scarcity of petroleum products in the country, Nigerians have been forced to source the product from Cotonou in Benin Republic On Monday, petrol sold for between N4, 500 and N5, 000 per litre along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as black marketers claimed they sourced the product from neighbouring Cotonou in the Republic of Benin which is not an oil producing country. A petrol hawker, who identified himself as Simpson Samuel, said he bought five litres from Cotonou and resold it for N5, 000 in Lagos. “I purchased this fuel for 800 Cedis a litre, which is equivalent of N3, 500,” he said. “We have been at filling stations along this Badagry road, but we did not get fuel. Some of our colleagues directed us to Cotonou and that is where we bought these ones. “Many people who have also gone there cannot buy because of the rush by our people,” Mr. Samuel said. http://www.pijangonews.com/2015/05/fuel-scarcity-nigerians-take-petrol.html

At a valedictory dinner organized by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), and held in honour of outgoing All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, Gov. Okorocha attributed APC’s victory at the 2015 polls to the defection of governors Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto, Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers States. Okoracha said that, “make no mistake about it, without the five Governors that joined the APC in 2013, we would not be here today”. Okorocha who is the chairman of the PGF, said the five governors took an enormous risk given what he described as a “vindictive” Federal Government. This man badly beaten was arrested in VGC this evening. According to the story sent exclusively to LIB, a driver connived with three men to kidnap his boss, the owner of Victoria Water Services from the airport but fortunately traffic foiled their plans. The lady they almost kidnapped narrated how she had called her driver to pick her from the airport, and she was surprised when some men entered from the back when the doors were supposed to be locked. As they were driving towards Aja, they found themselves in traffic and as the driver tried to reverse, it hit another car and that was when the woman opened the door and jumped from the vehicle and started screaming that they were trying to kidnap her. People chased the car and managed to pull one of the criminals from the car... and of course they beat him up (the one pictured) and handed him to the police at VGC. Other criminals are presently at large.. http://www.pijangonews.com/2015/05/photos-kidnapper-nabbed-in-vgc-beaten.html

Another man has joined the trekking trend. This time, a 200-level student of the Open University of Nigeria,Joseph Iyoke, trekked from Aba to Nsukka to honour the Enugu State Governor-elect, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. According to NAN, Iyoke, told newsmen on Saturday in Nsukka, that he took off for the journey from CMS road in Aba on May 4, at about 4: 30 a.m.He said “I did it to honour the governor elect of Enugu State; we have been waiting who will become governor of Enugu State from Nsukka for long time. I started on Monday at 4:30 a.m.; it is joyful journey I took, it is full of joy. I was not told by nobody to embark on this journey. If I have been told by anybody, I could have withdrawn because it is full of stress. I did it to know the governor-elect. “There are no good roads and electricity in Nsukka; only the people from Nsukka know the needs of Nsukka people. Nsukka people have been marginalised for a very long; I am happy that Nsukka man has been elected governor of Enugu State. This small signpost on my hand were many when I started this long trekking, I dropped many of them along the roads I passed. At night, I look for where to sleep in order to continue the journey by 4:30 a.m. the next day.” Receiving the trekker on arrival in Nsukka, Paschal Ugwu, Director-General, Youth to Youth Campaign for the governor-elect, said that what Iyoke did was a landmark achievement as well as and his own best way to celebrate the governor-elect. “It is not an easy task; it shows the governor-elect as man of the people. At the appropriate time, he will be taken to the governor-elect for special hand shake, as Ugwuanyi has been informed of what Iyoke did to honour him.” http://www.pijangonews.com/2015/05/trekking-madness-man-treks-from-aba-to.html

Denrenle Edun has been hounded with questions bothering on his sexuality and recently, many have been asking him if he would someday transition into a woman like Bruce Jenner..He has responded to those assertions..He told encomium If I was trying to be a lady, I am deceiving my conscience, and living a lie. I’m just comfortable with the person I am. I am comfortable with my identity I have built over the years. I am comfortable with the brand that is selling my market.” “I was a bit confused about my identity while growing up. Everyday, people would ask me if I was a girl or a boy. And everything the group’s president said is a must read. The Government needs to start taking its citizens seriously. A Group, United Nigerians In Diaspora, UNID, has called on the Federal Government to prevail on the Indonesian government to stay action on its plans to execute eight more Nigerian citizens for drug related offences. Briefing newsmen in Lagos, the group’s president, Mr. Paschal Okolie, condemned what it described as the poor attitude of the government towards the recent execution of four Nigerians in Indonesia. His words: ”Considering that the next batch of execution will take place in no distant time in Indonesia, we urge the good people of Nigeria and our government to rise up with the entire world to stop further executions of Nigerians. Enough of the killings. Nigeria should leverage on the strong bilateral relationship it has with Indonesia and negotiate to stop the execution of the eight waiting to be killed. In as much as we totally condemn drug trafficking and wish to sensitise intending traffickers on the consequences that awaits offenders, we also condemn capital punishment especially since it has not been able to quell the issue of drug trafficking in Indonesia.” Okolie who gave names of those awaiting further execution as, Michael Titus Igwe, Kingsley Okonkwo, Uchenna Onyewuru, Eugene Ape, Hunphery Ejike, Obinna Nwajiagu, Benjamin Onuoha and Ikenna Abanukwu, said, ”Nigerian Embassy in Indonesia is longer concerned with passport renewals than the welfare or security of Nigerians. Those Nigerians killed were not giving fair trial, there is language barrier which made it impossible for them to defend themselves properly, Nigerian embassy did not even send representatives to court to assist them, so they were left at the mercy of Indonesia which was bent on killing them.” ‘’Most times Nigerians are thrown into prisons for more than four months without anyone knowing about it. They are tortured and some even die in the process. The way a country treats her citizens, is a reflection of how the citizens will be treated in foreign lands. Therefore, we feel it is high time our government rose to the occasion to ameliorate the plight of its citizens.’’ “we expected our government to show concern just like other countries whose nationals were involved. The way a government treats its citizens, is a reflection of how the citizens are likely to be treated in foreign lands. Therefore, we feel it is high time our government rose to the occasion to ameliorate the plights of its citizens no matter the circumstance. We use this opportunity to appeal to the youth, to beware of the kind of friendships they keep as well as activities they engage themselves. One of the reasons there are many young Nigerians in prisons in different countries of the world today, is due to get rich quick syndrome, fast track. But in the end, they lose everything including their lives.” http://www.pijangonews.com/2015/05/8-more-nigerians-to-be-executed-in.html
