Code of Conduct Tribunal fixes February 4th for Justice Onnoghen’s trial

The Code of Conduct Tribunal has fixed February 4 for the resumption of alleged non-asset declaration trial against Justice Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria.



This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by Ibraheem Al-Hassan, the Heads (Press & Public Relations), Code of Conduct Tribunal.



Below is the full statement.

Conduct Tribunal Fixes 4th February for resumption of alleged Non asset declaration trial against Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Following Court of Appeal ruling yesterday on the trial against Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Onnoghen Nkanu Walter, on alleged non declaration of asset before Code of Conduct Tribunal is hereby fixed for Monday, 4th of February, 2019.

The decision was reached today sequel to a correspondent from Code of Conduct Bureau, applying for the resumption of trial of the case captioned; Application for resumption of trial of the case of FRN V. Hon. Justice Onnoghen Nkanu Walter Samuel case No: CCT/ABJ/01/19, addressed to Hon. Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal, dated 30th January, 2019, jointly signed by Musa Ibrahim Usman (Esq) and Fatima Danjuma Ali (Esq).

The request reads in part; “The above subject refers. This case came up for hearing of preliminary objection to the jurisdiction of the Tribunal on the 28th of Junuary, 2019 but the Tribunal could not proceed due to the pendency of the case at the Court of Appeal.

“However, in the wake of this afternoon, 30th Junuary, 2019 the Court of Appeal has thrown out the appeal.
“Consequently on the above, we urge the Honourable Tribunal to give us a date for resumption of the trial subject to the convenience of the Tribunal, Most obliged my Lord.

A Nigerian singer, Melissa Whiskey’s mum, Mrs Abimbola Olusola(right), was recently murdered in Lagos state by her aggrieved staff.

Mrs Olusola who owns Etashol Hotel and Suites, and the manager of her hotel, Tunji Omikunle, were strangled by some workers at the hotel located on Budland Street in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State, on January 24th.



According to the police, Olusola who lived in London for 35 years, returned to Nigeria in 2018 to set up a hotel in March of the same year.



Olusola and Omikunle had recently discovered that some of their employees had defrauded the company of money running into millions. They were handed over to the police and sacked afterwards. Last Thursday, the aggrieved workers and some other staff still in the employment of the hotel, conspired to kill Mrs Olusola and Omikunle who recently welcomed a set of twins.



The suspects allegedly deactivated the Closed Circuit Television cameras on the premises of the hotel, dragged the manager into a toilet, where his hands and feet were tied. Tunji was strangled, after which the suspects proceeded to Olusola’s room in the hotel where she stayed and strangled her too.



Relatives of the deceased said that the suspects fled the hotel, as family members met the lifeless bodies of the victims in the hotel.



The dastard act was discovered when the 12-year-old son of Mrs Olusola who resides in the hotel with his mum, went to her room to check on her before leaving for school. There he found her remains on the bed and raised an alarm.

The police at the Ojodu Abiodun Police Station was alerted and the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, where one of the workers is being interrogated.



Meanwhile, Melissa has taken to IG to mourn the gruesome murder of her mother. A heartbroken Melissa wrote

”In this life that is short learn to value and make the most of your loved ones before it is too late. This morning my mother was murdered in Nigeria a country she loved and gave everything to…. my life will never be the same i will never be the same… Not sure if life has any purpose anymore not sure why God allowed these wicked evil people to take my mother… but i find solace knowing my mother is in heaven …. i love you mum … may God keep you hold you … i thank God for blessing me with a mother like you… my mother was the most determined and hard working person i met in life and i know she is in heaven ?? #rip #mybeautifulmum

45-year-old Man With Three Wives Arrested For Raping His Daughter In Ogun

A 45-year-old man, Idowu Owolabi, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command, for allegedly raping his 21-year-old daughter.



According to the state police command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Owolabi who has three wives, started having sex with his daughter last year at their home in the Papa Olosun area of Oja-Odan in the Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was arrested after his daughter reported him to the police on January 28th.

“The victim reported that she followed her father to the farm at Fagboun village and the said father forcefully had carnal knowledge of her right there on the farm sometime in March 2018. She stated further that since then, her father had continuously been having unlawful carnal knowledge of her with a threat that he would kill her if she dared tell anybody about it. Upon the report, the DPO Oja-Odan, CSP Olayemi Jacob, led his detectives to the suspect’s residence, where he was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, the suspect, who was said to be married to three different women, confessed to the crime but blamed it on the devil” Abimbola said

Abimbola added that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation and possible prosecution of the suspect.

A man who single-handedly killed a huge python today in Bayelsa. Couldn’t be more proud of his “achievement”.

According to reports, the man killed the big reptile in Otuan community. In Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State.

Big eggs were recovered from its stomach after the python was butchered.

The man posed with the python after killing it as residents gathered at his abode to see for themselves and also ‘congratulate him’.

At least 3 people have died and several cars were burnt after a tanker fell and exploded at Ojo Barracks, along the Lagos – Badagry express road.

According to reports, the accident happened in the wee hours of this morning, at about 3 am, and despite the heavy rain that fell, the tanker was still burning as at this morning
An eyewitness claims that more than 3 people died in the tanker explosion. A container carrying generators was also caught in the fire. Cars with businessmen’s goods were burnt together with the contents

The eyewitness said:



One of the containers near where the tanker fell was carrying generators and they caught fire.

A car carrying cartons of fish caught fire too.

Some people got down from their cars and tried to escape the fire but rain fell and flooded the road and the water on the road was already too hot. Some of them fell inside the water and died.



The source added:



I saw more than three bodies in the water. Some of them are inside the water so you can’t see them well until you go close.

The tanker is still on fire till now, accident that happened since 3 and it’s still burning.

Bongo flava music star, Diamond Platnumz has asked the Tanzanian government to consider declaring a national holiday. On the day he will get married to his Kenyan girlfriend, Tanasha Donna Barbieri, a model and radio personality.



In a recent interview in Tanzania, Diamond explained that he wants the government to consider his wish so that all his family members can attend the ceremony.

“The reason why we had to change the date is because Tanasha’s mother will be working on Valentine’s Day. I do not want a small wedding, if it is possible. I would like the government to consider it a public holiday,” he said.

In December last year, Diamond officially announced his intentions to marry his sweetheart on valentines day however. He extended the dates because some super star celebrities like Rick Ross could not make it and yet he wanted his party to be big.

President Buhari today inaugurated the Ariara Market Independent Power Plant (IPP) in the commercial city of Aba, Abia State. With a pledge that his administration will continue to execute people-oriented projects around the country irrespective of party differences.

‘‘Today with policies and programmes such as this IPP we have demonstrated that if the common good is our mutual objective, it can be achieved irrespective party differences and constitutional limitations. Electricity has no political colour,’’ the President said in his speech at the inauguration of the plant.

President Buhari expressed delight that 37,000 shops belonging to traders and small business owners in Ariara market. Will, one after the other, be connected to the dedicated electricity supply.



He noted that the feat will strengthen the Made-in-Nigeria policy. For which Abia and in particular, Aba, and Ariaria market are already well known.

‘‘I am pleased to be here today at the milestone connection of 4,000 shops that now have dedicated power. Being a market that supplies shoes, bags, clothing, trunks and many household accessories to Nigeria, many African countries like Chad, Cameroun, Gambia and Central Africa Republic, reliable power supply is critical for ease of doing business to ensure sustainability and improvement.

‘‘I am told that before this intervention, traders in the market only got 4 hours a day of electricity and paid exorbitantly for it. Which consequently affected the viability of many businesses.

‘‘This is the sad legacy we inherited but which we are replacing with an all-day power supply. That is cleaner and better for our environment.

‘‘Those who turned their backs on these problems still have the courage to campaign about unemployment and poverty,’’ he said.

Barely two weeks to the elections, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has officially announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP.

Speaker Dogara who returned to PDP in September 2018, officially informed his colleagues that he has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during plenary on Tuesday January 29th. He however did not give reasons for his defection.

He also announced the defection of two other APC members of the House to the PDP.

The INEC office at Oyigbo LGA in Rivers state was set ablaze by hoodlums this morning. The culprits are yet to be arrested but police say investigations have commenced and that those behind the act would be apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law. Thankfully no life was lost.



The state residents believe the attack on the INEC office is a ploy by some disgruntled politicians to ensure the elections in the state are postponed.
