THE Presidency has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of shedding crocodile tears by declaring a mourning period for people killed in Plateau state, saying that even though more people were killed under the former ruling party, it never declared a mourning period.

A statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Thursday, gave a list of killings under PDP which it said the party never mourned.

The statement said that it was sad and unfortunate killings in Plateau state over the weekend have been turned to an opportunity to once again play irresponsible politics, particularly by the PDP. Read Full Story....

As reported by PREMIUM TIMES how an undergraduate scholarship scheme by the Chinese construction firm, CCECC, for young Nigerians was cornered for ministers and other top public officials.

The top officials who benefitted were identified in a document used by the construction firm, CCECC, to permit selected candidates to participate in the scholarship interview.

Only the persons whose names were on the document were allowed for the interview at the firms’ office in Abuja. Each of the names were typed close to the top officials who nominated them as seen by PREMIUM TIMES. Several other candidates who showed up for the interview without being on the ‘special’ list from the officials were stopped at the gate.

Oshiomhole Unopposed for APC Chair, as Ebri Bows Out
The coast is virtually clear for former governor Adams Oshiomhole’s bid for the chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress.

The last of his rivals, Chief Clement Ebri, also a former Governor of Cross River, announced his withdrawal from the race, leaving Oshiomhole now unopposed.

Ebri’s decision to withdraw from the race was made known on Thursday in his letter titled: “Withdrawal from National Championship race”, in Abuja.

Ebri’s decision came ahead of the party’s National Convention slated for Saturday and followed two other chairmanship aspirants’ withdrawal from the race.

He stated in the letter that his decision to withdraw from the race came after due consultations with friends, family and associates in the interest of the party. Read moRe....

A first republic minister and Kano elder statesman Alhaji Sule Gaya Sarkin Fadan Kano has died.

The absence of Justice Gideon Kurada of a Kaduna High Court on Thursday staled the arraignment of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibrahim el-Zakzaky; and his wife, Zeenat, over alleged culpable homicide.

A Facebook user identified as Meg Barn has decided to reveal the face of man who she claimed beat his wife to death. She also disclosed that the couple got married on February 10.

Lady who was identified as Gloria Onyedikachi Obinna was said to have suffered from domestic violence in the hands of her husband, Mgbeodinma Samuel. He hails from Awo-Idemili. Barn did not only announce the death of the young lady, she also shared pictures of the lady and claimed that her husband abandoned her corpse in his car. This took place on Saturday, June 16.

Chief Audu Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, made the disclosure in Abuja on Monday while speaking with youths in a leadership clinic under the auspices of Guardians of the Nation International (GOTNI).

Ogbeh who did not mention the particular country and border, said that shutting the borders had become necessary to encourage local production and sustain the economy of the country.

YOLA— A Yola High Court Presided over by Justice Abdul-Azeez Waziri has sentenced five men to death for culpable homicide and for killing a herdsman.

Court The convicts, Alex Amos, Alheri Phanuel, Holy Boniface, Jerry Gideon and Jari Sabagi of Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide which contravened Section 96 (1) (a) and Sections 79 and 221 (b) of the Penal Code of Laws of Adamawa State, 1997.

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered that court papers be served on the information minister, Lai Mohammed, over a list of alleged looters he released.

The two sets of alleged looters list published by Mr Mohammed, which largely contained names of Peoples Democratic Party members and allies who worked with the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

On Monday, counsel to one of those named by Mr Mohammed filed an application in court challenging the inclusion of his client’s name in the list and accusing the minister of contempt of court.

The president, it was gathered, gave three reasons for withholding assent to the bill, which was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.

Officials of the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency [NDLEA] have foiled an attempt to smuggle cannabis on one of the buses of Edo City Transport Service.

A 40-year-old graduate of Political Science and suspected member of a notorious cannabis smuggling cartel was also apprehended by the agency.

The suspect was found with 48 blocks of compressed dried weed of cannabis sativa weighing 37 kilogrammes packed in two bags in the passenger bus. The drug has an estimated street value of ₦370,000.

The FG has announced that any programme that is not technical will be out of the polytechnics.

In a bid to end the discrimination between HND and BSc degrees in Nigeria, the Federal Government has scrapped the award of Higher National Diploma, HND certificates by Polytechnics.
The decision to scrap the degree was reached on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting.

The FG did not only stop polytechnics from awarding HND degree, it also stops them from offering courses that are non-technical.

While speaking to Journalists about the new development in polytechnics across the country, the Minister of Education, Prof Adamu Adamu says any programme that is not technical will be out of the polytechnics.

About 70 percent of polytechnic graduates are in the non-technical courses. It is going to be a rigorous implementation programme,” he said.

With this new policy, Herea are some of the non-technical courses that are being offered in Nigerian polytechnics.

Technically, these 15 courses will no longer be studied in polytechnics once the new policy takes effects.

His son, Kabir Akanbi, also confirmed the death to The Nation newspaper.
