THE Presidency has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of shedding crocodile tears by declaring a mourning period for people killed in Plateau state, saying that even though more people were killed under the former ruling party, it never declared a mourning period. A statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Thursday, gave a list of killings under PDP which it said the party never mourned. The statement said that it was sad and unfortunate killings in Plateau state over the weekend have been turned to an opportunity to once again play irresponsible politics, particularly by the PDP. The top officials who benefitted were identified in a document used by the construction firm, CCECC, to permit selected candidates to participate in the scholarship interview. Only the persons whose names were on the document were allowed for the interview at the firms’ office in Abuja. Each of the names were typed close to the top officials who nominated them as seen by PREMIUM TIMES. Several other candidates who showed up for the interview without being on the ‘special’ list from the officials were stopped at the gate. The last of his rivals, Chief Clement Ebri, also a former Governor of Cross River, announced his withdrawal from the race, leaving Oshiomhole now unopposed. Ebri’s decision to withdraw from the race was made known on Thursday in his letter titled: “Withdrawal from National Championship race”, in Abuja. A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered that court papers be served on the information minister, Lai Mohammed, over a list of alleged looters he released. The two sets of alleged looters list published by Mr Mohammed, which largely contained names of Peoples Democratic Party members and allies who worked with the Goodluck Jonathan administration. On Monday, counsel to one of those named by Mr Mohammed filed an application in court challenging the inclusion of his client’s name in the list and accusing the minister of contempt of court. President Muhammadu Buhari has rejected the amendment to the Electoral Act, which intended to change the country's elections sequence, Daily Trust has learned. The president, it was gathered, gave three reasons for withholding assent to the bill, which was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly. The FG has announced that any programme that is not technical will be out of the polytechnics. In a bid to end the discrimination between HND and BSc degrees in Nigeria, the Federal Government has scrapped the award of Higher National Diploma, HND certificates by Polytechnics. The decision to scrap the degree was reached on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting. The FG did not only stop polytechnics from awarding HND degree, it also stops them from offering courses that are non-technical. While speaking to Journalists about the new development in polytechnics across the country, the Minister of Education, Prof Adamu Adamu says any programme that is not technical will be out of the polytechnics. About 70 percent of polytechnic graduates are in the non-technical courses. It is going to be a rigorous implementation programme,” he said. With this new policy, Herea are some of the non-technical courses that are being offered in Nigerian polytechnics.
