British police on Friday charged an 18-year-old boy with attempted murder and causing explosion in connection with last week’s terrorist attack on an underground train in south-west London.

Ahmed Hassan, arrested in Dover on Saturday, was the first person detained by authorities after a home-made bomb partially detonated on an underground train at London’s Parsons Green station the night before.

“Hassan is due to appear at the Westminster Magistrates Court in London later.

“Three other men, aged 25, 30 and 17, remain in custody in connection with the attack,’’ London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Police added that two detainees were released on Thursday.

It said searches were ongoing at one location in Surrey and at two locations in Newport, Wales.

Almost 30 people were injured when a bucket packed with nails and the explosive triacetone triperoxide (TATP) partially detonated on a busy train during the morning rush hour on September 15.

However, the attack was claimed by the Islamic State extremist group.

A day after the police in Kano engaged in a gun duel with Boko Haram suspects who had escaped from Sambisa forest in Borno, the police in Abuja have arrested another suspected member of the sect who also reportedly escaped from the forest.

The Nigerian Army had last year warned that the escaping terrorists who would seek sanctuary in peaceful communities after they were dislodged from Sambisa by soldiers.

The Abuja Police Command said it arrested the fleeing Boko Haram suspect, Seth Yakubu, 20, in Gwako area of Gwagwalada Area Council.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, who made the disclosure at a news conference, said the suspect was arrested on Sunday after a tip-off on his suspicious behaviour in the village.

He said the suspect was arrested after he was found in a suspicious manner in the village by the villagers who alerted the police.

“This young man Seth Yakubu from Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, yesterday at 1130 hrs at Gwako Village in Gwagwalada was found in a suspicious manner, the police were alerted and he was arrested,” he said.

Mr. Kimo said the suspect, who confessed to his membership of the Boko Haram group, escaped to the village from the Sambisa forest after being dislodged by the military.

“He further stated that he left Maiduguri on Friday and arrived Gwako village on Saturday at about 10:00 p.m. to conceal his identity and seek refuge,” he said.

The commissioner said that aside from being the second-in-command in his unit, the suspect confessed to have actively participated in several deadly attacks by the group.
Mr. Kimo said the suspect said he was lured to join the group in October 2016 with a promise of an automatic enlistment into the Nigerian Army.

He advised community leaders to guard against harbouring strangers, especially those without clear mission.

He also enjoined residents and its environs to be vigilant and always report any strange and suspicious persons to the police.

“Upon the identification of any strange face in a community, the nearest police formation can be alerted or the FCT police command emergency help-lines,” he said.

The commissioner described the arrest as a renaissance of community policing, being canvassed by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

He said that the suspect would be arraigned in court after completion of investigation.

Mr. Yakubu who spoke to journalists, said that he was given a form to fill for enlistment into the Nigerian Army.

He said that he was taken to Zaria for a military training after which he was given a substance that would change his mind.

“After giving us that thing they told us that we are not members of the Nigerian Army but we are going to help the Boko Haram to fight the Nigerian Army to convert Nigeria into an Islamic country,” he said.

The Boko Haram insurgency has caused about 100,000 deaths, mainly in North-east Nigeria since 2009.

Tragedy struck on the Ife-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday as 11 persons, including children, were burnt to death after an 18-seater bus collided with a fuel tanker.

The accident, which caused gridlock on the expressway, reportedly happened around 11am at a roundabout opposite Moremi Estate, in front of Energy Filling Station in Ile Ife.

The diesel-laden tanker was said to be negotiating the roundabout when the passenger bus, which was said to be coming from Ore in Ondo State, reportedly rammed into it from behind.

PUNCH gathered that the bus caught fire and the passengers, who became unconscious due to the impact of the collision, became trapped inside the burning vehicle.

Nine passengers were said to have died on the spot, while some of the victims, who were rescued, eventually gave up the ghost.

One victim was said to be in a critical condition at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Ile Ife.

One of the residents of Ile Ife, who was at the scene of the crash, told our correspondent that the Nissan Urvan bus was also loaded with vehicle spare parts scrap metal, which made it difficult for the passengers to escape from the burning vehicle.

The resident, who identified himself as Macdonald Oladipupo, said,

“The accident happened opposite Moremi Estate this morning (Sunday). The tanker was making a U-turn, while the bus that was coming from Ore rammed into it.

“Nine of the passengers inside the bus died. A rescue team from the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital came to rescue others. I learnt that some of them later died.”

As a music blogger at Plus1 Nigeria, a music platform that specializes in helping artists deliver and disseminate promotional music, I’ve witnessed first-hand the good, bad and the ugly associated with artist PR and vying for music blogger and press attention.

Speaking as a music blogger, I often times receive upwards of 30-40 new music submissions a day. Many top tier bloggers receive even more than that. That means that your music submission, assuming you sent it via email, will fall somewhere in between the hundreds or maybe even thousands of other non-music related spam emails that the blogger receives on a daily basis.

There are a number of things that you can do as an artist to Get Your Music Noticed by Music Bloggers in Nigeria. either Free or Paid.

Here Goes…
1) Understand Your Press List

Have the individuals on your press list written about similar artists in the past? Do they only write about pop music or do they also tend to write about up and coming artists? Do they only write about certain genres of music? Does your music fall within that genre?

A quick way to see if a blog has written about an artist you think you’re similar to is to do a Google Search with “site:blogname.com artist name” – Google will show you a list of search results from that blog featuring that artist.

2) Have a Detailed Subject Line

If you’re going to stand out from the crowd you better have a damn good subject line. Is your song a new release? Say so. Is there an MP3/Video attached? Call that out. Is your song featuring a big name artist that might be more well-known than yourself? Call it out.

3) Keep the Description Simple

Remember that the recipients of your song submission receive many submissions per day. They don’t want to read a novel when determining whether or not to listen to and post a song. Tell a concise story about who you are and your music. Have you been featured elsewhere? Toured with a famous band? Have a famous cousin? Why are you different? Why should we care about you?

Confusion from Pigeons and Planes says,

“…the pitches that get my most attention are the simple ones that make it easy to check out the music. When it comes to unknown artists, it all depends on the music. If I get an email with 20 attachments, a short story’s worth of writing, and links to everything the artist has ever done, I’m not likely to check it out. If I see a simple message with one song, and if I like that song, I’m going to do what I can to support.”

Criticising his controversial decision to implement a temporary ban on Muslim immigrants entering America, she posted: “Disgusted! The news is devastating! America is being ruined right before our eyes! What an immoral pig you have to be to implement such BS!!”

Unsurprisingly, the virtue-signalling tweet was ‘liked’ more than 250,000 times and re-tweeted by more than 120,000 fans.
One simpatico fan replied: “Preach baby girl!!!!” while another added: “THANK YOU for using your platform to bring awareness to this injustice!!! I love you and respect you so much”.
