mystery1979:@Mystery, you've educated us and spoken the mind of many but you're not volunteering your revered services is not a question of who'll bell the cat? |
I'll join as soon as my puppy becomes a man...In few months time. Good luck guys! |
Drfash:Engenni in the house? |
Nice pups and kudos for including price. |
Quite impressive Bro! But how of u preven cross breeding? |
It was a positive surprise by the followup call call from OP to my SMS enquiry. Anyway, I was on night duty on Thursday 25th so we agreed to meet in my office at Ojota between 7 and 8am but he shockingly made it around 5.45am with the stock and was ready to even accept cheque. The 15kg content was fresh and wonderfully meaty. I knew that I'll lose a lot considering the power situation so I chopped the chunk to size, set an alter then firewood dried the meat that same day then sunning subsequently. Now I can stay without power for days without fear of the meat going bad and it can serve my puppy for over a month no matter how dished. I soak the dry meat in hot water for minutes to make it edible and my pup likes it well. @Tobolos, thanks 4 the trust. I'll come 4 more soonest by His grace. |
Bros I really empathise with u having initiated myself into this fun filled realm recently too. Pls take heart, be strong and move on. |
CodeineJunkiee:So u this retarded codeine addict is still talking? I shd've checked your name, Mr. Codeine Junkie, to know better. |
aguizm:Yea Knyte is a pedigree guy...hahaha a full breed. Surely, I lend my voice against insults and mockery but welcomes (well structured) criticism. |
knyte:Oga K, we dey your back ooo! |
Prodeegee:Thanks bro. But can i alternate it with hydrogen peroxide? The pharmacist almost got me confused but I stuck to what Knyte advised. |
Prodeegee:@Pro, I use the m/spirit with cotton wool to clean the inside ears as recommended by pundit Knyte...lol. |
aguizm:I see nothing wrong in calling a spade a spade and not a garden tool. What is wrong in telling the viewers the truth? If you are not sure of your breed or the quality and wont entertain negative comments then you're in the wrong section...perhaps OLX is your friend. There are pundits in this Pet section I respect so much like Knyte, Prodeegee, Arcbay, Chucky234 just to mention but a few that are keeping standard and educating us a lot - in particular - the ills of crossing. How many new followers like us will even know expect we are told? If you cross-breed for your personal use only then good and fine and more luck. But selling to the unsuspecting buyer is a CAPITAL CRIME! One day una go cross dog with monkey then tell us its recognized...indeed...I dey laff jare. |
They're easy to get and affordable too...
|
Yea the reason why prices are not stated is obvious but it shouldn't stop goodpeople from doing the right thing. Put price and people will complain, don't put price and people will complain so why remove it? I don't think it's ideal for us to do what the minority wants even when it's below par. You'll all agree with me that what viewers and pundits complain, scrutinise, criticise, castigate and in some cases even mock is the pix vis-a-vis the quality pet but has it stopped anyone from uploading pix? Many of us are here to learn, buy and sell all bound by the love of pets hence taking lots of important discussion offline might not be healthy for us in the long run. |
I'm really thinking aloud with my fingers and it surely amazes me why someone will construct ad in this section but without a price tag. I know this is not general norm cos i'm a frequent guest in other sections like Auto, Properties, etc and the expected standard is you need to include price. Haggling does occur and sales get tied in some cases. Perhaps someone with a better understanding could educate me why price tag is strictly a taboo? Even those that ignorantly but seriously ask for the price online are immediately referred to call or chat in private. Many people, I'm sure have wasted time and money to make price inquiries via phone call only to be disappointed due to obvious reason I'm not unaware that the motive could be that sellers (sorry breeders) wants to receive calls from only serious buyers as only few will zap credit to make inquiries if not meant. It's baffling that most of these breeders claim to imported the said breeds and we all know that the oversea breeders don't asked to be called. Rather, the price out there is also given and it breeds sincerity and trust. My take is buyers should be advised to call to show seriousness and possibly confirm ad genuineness only when they feel that the asking price is not only friendly but could be negotiated (downward). However, this surely affects the majority and not entirety of ads but...again...i speak for myself as a fresh follower of recent events here... May we all join hands to make this section livelier. |

Prodeegee:Bros, I decided to dig more about the lab breed and 2nd to the last paragraph below is a big offside: "..". The breed originated on the island of Newfoundland, off the northeastern Atlantic coast of Canada. Originally called the St. John's dog, after the capital city of Newfoundland, he was bred to help the local fishermen — hauling nets, fetching ropes, and retrieving fish that had escaped the nets — as well as to be a family dog. Today, most Labs skip the hard labor and spend their days being pampered and loved by their people. However, some Labs still serve as indispensable working dogs. The Lab's sweet nature makes him an excellent therapy dog, visiting homes for the elderly and hospitals, and his intelligence makes him an ideal assistance dog for the handicapped. He also excels as a search and rescue dog or as a retriever for hunters, thanks to his athletic build, strong nose, and courageous nature. And Labs have also become the breed to beat at dog sports such as agility and obedience competitions — especially obedience. There's one dog job that Labs are hopeless at: watchdog. In fact, owners say their sweet, helpful Lab is likely to greet an intruder and happily show him where the goods are stashed. Labrador Retrievers have proven their usefulness and versatility throughout the breed's history, easily shifting from fisherman's companion, to field retriever, to show dog, to modern working dog. One role has remained constant: wonderful companion and friend." |
Lebrado is a better choice u think? |
Prodeegee:Thanks oga Prodeegee. It's a family of five. 3 adults and 2 boys (age 5+ and 3). I get 4 days on the average weekly while my younger brother fill the void when I'm unavailable. The house is fully fenced with gates always shut meaning guests must be physically accessed inside and no tenant. @Magpies & Chucky234 & Sweetpet thanks u guys rock. However, won't a gsd and rott be at loggerhead and supremacy tussle over territory and food? I've narrowed my choice but more suggestions are highly welcomed. |
BRIEF BACKGROUND INFO I acquired my very 1st pet, a male rott puppy, about 2wks ago and he is now 2 months and 1 day old. I'm feeding him with dry/canned foods, Indomie, Golden Morn, egg, dry chicken neck, (vetzyme multivitamin tabs) etc for the feeding and he is responding tremendously coupled with 2nd round of deworming and vaccination I just gave him last week. He has a temporary house at the balcony but free to roam to any part of the compound and inside house...never been chained. He's fully adapted to life in his new home and his permanent house will be ready this month end. I'm giving you the background info so that you will know how far I'm going to take care of my 1st pet and that the rottie boy is not suffering at all. HOW YOU CAN HELP Now, I have made up my mind to add another of his kind sooner than later and I need your candid professional and knowledgeable advice on the best breed and sex to add. WHAT I THINK My mind is kind of gazed at a female rott but my 1st and primary objective is to have pet-s whereas security comes second. Breeding and profit making is not part of my agenda hence i don't mind the sex. The other options I'm contemplating are GSD and Caucasian but I'm afraid i dont know much about the latter. |

What distinguishes a responsible breeder from the rest? The following information comes from the Dalmatian Club of America, the AKC (American Kennel Club), breed experts and purebreed rescue volunteers. Responsible breeders... 1. Do not sell their pups to highest bidders. Instead, they personally screen and select homes for their puppies, advise people on caring for the breed, turn away people whose lifestyle, commitment or home situation does not fit the breed... 2. Do not sell multiple breeds of dogs, since they specialize in one or two breeds. 3. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the breed's history, traits, temperament, and conformation. They have years of experience with the breed. 4. Are involved in the showing of purebred dogs. 5. Keep their dogs as house pets, so they know that the offspring will be good pets as well. 6. Value their reputation for seeking to improve the breed hence do not sell pups as a for-profit business and in some cases many lose money. 7. Evaluate the health of their pups using sound, standardized genetic and other testing recommended for the individual breed. 8. Provide full, lifetime written guarantees covering genetic disease and temperament problems. 9. Take back the dog at any point in his or her life for whatever reason the purchaser no longer wants or can care for the animal. 10. Place all pet quality animals with a contract requiring the purchaser to spay/neuter the pup. 11. Interview and usually visit the homes of prospective puppy purchasers, placing pups only with people who demonstrate they can provide safe, responsible homes. 12. Has at least the mother dog on premises and let prospective purchasers observe the dog and her health and behavior. Responsible breeders breed their female dog to the best male, not the most convenient one. 13. Breed only dogs over 2 years old, and breeds the dog only a limited number of times; not every year 14. Line up qualified buyers in advance of birth of a litter and rarely ever advertise. 15. Do not separate a pup from the mother and litter before 8 weeks of age. Also deworm and vaccinate their puppies. 16. Can provide references for happy puppy buyers. Culled from http://www.paw-rescue.org/PAW/PETTIPS/DogTip_breedersandpetshops.php |
aAK1:Does it mean pedigree dogs cannot be gotten locally again even from the renowned breeders in this NL section? I'm not unaware of some breeders here in 9ja peddling half as full breed but seeing importation from wherever as the penacea makes me curious. |
afolag:We call him Murphy. Nice hearing from u @Afolag ![]() |
afolag:I'm afraid that if u nurse the myopic insinuation that it's an irresponsible act to own a puppy at this century then your coming to NL Pets Section is an irreversible misplaced priority. FYI owning a dog was top on my list having moved into my fenced apartment with a sizeable compound and no tenant to deal with. My responsiblity goes beyond caring for my immediate family of wife of over 8yrs of marriage and 2 sons to my nuclear family and friends. Forgive me if I sounded jobless or halfbaked in my initial writeup cos you're so wrong. I never wanted to reply u but nonetheless I strongly recommend u educate urself more on what dog ownership is and what it's not. |
Prodeegee:...'twas 67k Sir |
I finally got my little puppy after few days of intense search which was filled with sounds and furies. My venturing to this section was more of providence.words . Words cannot express the priceless help I've received from KNYTE through chatting and pix exchange.. People like him are rare gems...so selfless. He was there for me in the rain and sun and even during odd hours. He has no clue of my NL ID, where I work and surely not expecting this message. The pup is 6wks old and watching it munch the canned jojo premium puppy foods was the joyous time. I've been advised to buy dry food,, possibly diamond extreme athletic or arion. The vet fella said the 2nd shot is due. Let me add thatth. ugh I'm not new to NL but so green horn in PETS section and dog in particular so I'm here to learn.. Nonetheless, I've no doubt that many KNYTEs abound here going by the heartwarming comments and posts. Thanks again, KNYTE and all the good people here. My pup pix.
