I understand you and I respect all professions but you people greatly misunderstand medicine... the average Nigeria doctor is not actually well paid despite the public perception, that's why people are leaving the country in droves searching for better pay and better working conditions in countries that need them. Its our private hustle that sometimes help us break even so you can imagine being at work without a break even on weekends without a life outside the hospital in an area where healthcare facilities and manpower are virtually non-existent and someone is giving you 15k for working your ass off. And you dont have the time for additional hustle... if they said, '15k but work for 3 to 6 hrs daily'... fine, but this one is slavery... from 130k to 15k... stupid
forgive me for being emotional and sorry that i said hurtful things but I was in this kind of situation 7yrs ago, underpaid, broke, broken, the only doctor on duty in a thriving gen hospital, manning 4 depts, no stipend, no thank you not even yam and still being owed since I started work... very bad. It was a big lesson about humanity and I realised that this was being cheated because I couldn't let people die...
this will make doctors run from state employment which will worsen the already bad situation... fg pays much better.
And the funny thing us that there are not enough docs to go round, city life makes you feel so... nysc brings reality when u're the only doctor in your lga! Messed up

For your information am not against your salary negotiation, i just hate the fact that you guys make it look as though medicine can only be studied by angels. I can tell you that, am doing better than most medical doctors because i have them as friends and i can even employ them and pay them. I respect all profession because no profession is actually as easy as some us of think and none is as difficult as we think. I will appreciate it if all profession gets a good pay, who doesn't like good thing?

No wonder the Nigerian youth are unemployed. I'm sure if Doctors storm the Labour market they will get the same jobs people are shouting is unavailable because our youths are so unemployable. They just think their job is to go to school and get certificate whatever the grade. That's why Doctors will always be valued cos we don't use grades in our Certificate, it's either you pass or you fail. Hence we're being trained to be useful not just based on certificate which one Engineer dey try compare but on what you can do.

Doctors are careful people and to be honest with you, Am a bit disappointed in ur replies so far. Who is talking about certificate here. Am talking about the practical world, you are saying something else. For your information, I have so many medical doctors as friends. We grew up together and i was far better than most of them but I chose to study engineering and they chose medicine. Medicine is not as difficult and tasking as most persons think.

You are correct but I just want medical doctors to show some respect to other profession. Some of us read engineering because we've always wanted to be engineers not because we don't have what it takes to study medicine. I think medicine is what it is in Nigeria today because of how it is been handled in our Nigeria Universities. The average Nigerian always want to make things that are naturally not difficult appear to be difficult so people can accord him/her respect. There is no big deal in studying medicine.

Don't worry, very soon engineering machines will do better than medical doctors. Engineers are already working on that.. Is just to give the computer instructions and a robot more precise and better than humans will carry out the operation. Medicine will always be useful but medical doctors will lose value as technology gets better.

Nigeria makes medical doctors look extraordinary but in the real sense medicine depend on some other profession to actually function effectively. In civilized countries medicine is a function of engineering technology. Medicine has gone beyond using crude implement no wonder most wealthy people still fly out to receive treatment. A doctors mistake could endanger few lives but an engineer mistake can terminate an entire country. Medical doctors are important but other profession shouldn't be mocked. If we state a debate on ENGINEERING versus MEDICINE.. Enlightened people know the profession that will win the debate. All profession are important, we shouldn't place too much important on medicine. Computers and engineering equipments makes medicine more interest and less stressful in develop countries.
