Politics / "Buhari Will Still Win" - Ngige Tells Igbos by PMBNG(m): 12:12pm On Jan 02, 2019
Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s President who is seeking a second term in office will win the 2019 presidential election without the votes of the South East Igbos.

The assertion is coming from Chris Ngige, Labour Minister, who advised the Igbos to make hay while the sun shines.

The minister who described himself as a prophet the people should listen to stated this while addressing stakeholders and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra on Tuesday.

He is among top officials of the Buhari administration who are promising geo-political zones that their principal will hand over to them should he be re-elected.

At the event, Mr Ngige described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidates as “deceivers.”

“I’m a prophet the Igbo should listen to. I said it in 2015 and I am saying it again to Ndigbo that Buhari will win the 2019 presidential election convincingly,” the minister said.

“It will be good and in the interest of the Igbo if we give Buhari another four years. By then, it will be ‘a pass and pass out’ for him instead of giving these sugar-coated PDP deceivers the chance to come and destroy and take this country to the precipice again.

“Those who abandoned the party at the last minute, thinking the party would not win any election would live to regret it.

“We should give President Muhammadu Buhari maximum support in the 2019 general elections, that is the only and shortest way to get the presidency for the Igbo,” Ngige added.

Neither the President nor his party, the APC, has made known their position on the promises being made by officials of the government.

Politics / Bakare: Empty Treasury Made Buhari To Appoint Ministers Late by PMBNG(m): 10:53am On Jan 02, 2019
Tunde Bakare, the general overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly has said empty treasury made President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint ministers lately.

Mr Buhari after he was sworn in as president ran the government without ministers for six months, which economists say was responsible for recession the economy went into.

Mr Bakare’s account differs from that of the presidency which blamed the administration of former president, Goodluck Jonathan, for the delay in constituting the cabinet.

Mr Jonathan, in his new book titled ‘My Transition Hours,’ pushed back the blame.

For the cleric, the president wasted time in constituting his cabinet because there was no money to pay them.

He stated this in a interview he granted Heritage Media in Calgary, Canada.

Bakare said Buhari did not assemble the best cabinet that will turn things around unlike those of his predecessors.

“Development under President Buhari has been slow because as he said, he inherited an empty treasury,” he said.

“For six months, he could not appoint ministers because there was no money to pay them, and little by little, thank God, oil picked up.

“But a person like Obasanjo will now attack him and say, rightly, the price of oil had fallen completely and I met an empty treasury but I didn’t give excuses, I worked.

“But the difference is this, Obasanjo assembled the best, the brightest from across the nations of the earth, economists that knew their onions, to begin to help steer the affairs of the nation, and that is less seen in this administration,” Bakare added.

The cleric also advised the president to deal with alleged corrupt cronies of his administration.

“The allegations by the Nigerian public is that those around the president are also stealing, and some names have been mentioned. You cannot be a clean man surrounded by rogues, if you don’t deal with those rogues, they would colour you with the same tar,” Bakare added.

Politics / 2019: Why Buhari Needs To Go For Mental Health Test – Atiku by PMBNG(m): 9:27am On Jan 02, 2019
Days after the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) called on all presidential candidates to submit themselves for a mental health test, Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated why President Muhammadu Buhari needs the test.

Messer Abubakar and Buhari are major presidential candidates for the next year’s election.

The president is seeking a second term in office on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

For the former vice president popularly known as Atiku, the president needs the test because he is completely unaware of happenings around the country.

The PDP flag bearer, in a statement by his spokesman, Paul Ibe, also attacked the performance of the APC candidate saying the president’s only achievement is to supervise Nigerians into poverty.

He listed insecurity, job losses and extreme poverty suffered by 90 million Nigerians as the achievements of the president.

The former vice president criticized the president for claiming on Friday that his adminstration has defeated Boko Haram terrorists while the proscribed group was having a field day in some parts of the country with about 700 soldiers reportedly missing in action.

“Faced with such delusions and obvious denial of reality by President Buhari, it has become expedient to revisit the demand by the Coalition of United Political Parties for all Presidential candidates to submit themselves for a mental health test because clearly someone has badly lost touch with happenings around him,” Atiku’s statement partly read.

The PDP candidate also advised the president to address the corruption allegation involving members of his family.

“And, for the umpteenth time, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari to come clean on the faceless people behind Keystone Bank and Etisalat. Nigerians deserve to know how people who used to beg for N2000 transport money, as revealed by Buhari’s right hand man, Buba Galadima, are now suddenly wealthy enough to acquire multi billion dollar investments.”

While pledging to present himself for the mental health test and advising the president to follow suit, Atiku said he is ready to tackle Buhari in a presidential debate where he would outline is plans to drive away unemployment and fight poverty to a stand still.

Shehu Sani, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the Senate has advised geo-political zones promised the presidential ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to demand a written agreement.

Mr Sani gave the advise on Tuesday while weighing in on the controversy surrounding which region takes over the presidency from incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari who is the 2019 flag bearer of the APC.

Top officials of the Buhari administration, in a bid to get their principal who seeks a second term in office re-elected, has severally promised two geo-political zones that Mr Buhari was going to hand over to them if they get re-elect the APC candidate.

The promised was made to the South East region predominantly Igbos and the South West of the Yoruba race.

While Boss Mustapha, Secretary to Government of the Federation and Chris Ngige, Labour Minister, made the promise to the Igbo race, Yemi Osinabjo, Vice President and Babatunde Fashola, Works Minister, made the pledge to the Yoruba race.

While the controversy raged, Olusegun Obasanjo, former president, making his own contribution, advised the people of the South East to be weary ot the ruling APC as the party cannot be trusted.

Obasanjo advised the Igbos to throw their weight behind Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi. Messrs Abubakar and Obi are presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Giving his own advise, the Kaduna lawmaker advised which ever region being promised the presidency to demand a written agreement from Buhari and his party.

Sani said the agreement must be signed in the presence of well known religious and traditional office holders.

“If they promise your geopolitical zone political power in 2023,demand for a written irreversible & irrevocable agreement, signed by their presidential candidates & party chieftains & witnessed by respected traditional & religious leaders,” the lawmaker said in a tweet.

He added that gentleman agreement is a hoax & a mirage.

Neither the president nor his party the APC has weighed in since the controversy raged.

Mr Melaye had his Mississippi home under siege on Friday by men of the Nigeria Police.

The police said the lawmaker is wanted for alleged homicide he committed in July and has been keeping vigil and employing all tactics at its disposal to get Melaye who has severally maintained that he is not in the building.

They maintain that the lawmaker was hiding in the building and has said they have an arrest warrant to pick up the accused.

“We will not retreat until Sen. Dino Melaye surrenders himself for arrest and investigation,” Mr Moshood reportedly said.

Several colleagues of the lawmaker has called on the police to lift the siege while urging the lawmaker to report himself at the force headquarters alongside his legal team.

Melaye is a staunch critics of the Muhammadu Buhari administration. He is also at loggerheads with his state governor, Yahaya Bello.

“I will like those who want to challenge us at any level, at any constituency, to doubt our contribution towards our undertaking,” Buhari said.

Politics / 2019: If You Vote PDP, Nigeria 'll Go Back To Recession, Amaechi Tells Nigerians by PMBNG(m): 11:08pm On Dec 28, 2018
Should Nigerians return the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to power in 2019, the country will experience another round of recession, Rotimi Amaechi, Transportation Minister, has said.

Mr Amaechi, a former Rivers Governor, stated this on Friday at the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential flag-off campaign in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

“If you vote for the other party, let me tell you what will happen. They are so hungry that if they come out, they will be too busy stealing money that by the time Nigerians realise it, we are back to recession,” the former governor said.

Nigeria experienced its worst economic recession in 2016 under the leadership of the APC. The nation’s economy snapped out of its first recession in 25 years late 2017.

Amaechi who acknowledged that Nigerians were indeed hungry said the hunger is caused by the mindless looting by the PDP which had held sway since 1999 until in 2015 when the party was chased out of power.

“You are hungry because they stole the money. If the money was here, you wouldn’t have been hungry,” he said.

The minister, also the director general of President Muhammadu Buhari re-election campaign, noted the difference between the two major political parties.

“You know, the difference between us and the other party (PDP) is that they are not saying that they are not corrupt.

“They say we are corrupt, but APC is also corrupt. They agree that the president is not corrupt. What they are saying is those around the president are corrupt. But they agree that they are corrupt.

“We are saying as APC that we are not corrupt and that we are fighting corruption. Whether you are APC or PDP, when you are corrupt we will fight you.”

Mr Buhari, accompanied to the rally by the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole; a national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, and some of the APC governors, is seeking a second term in office.

His administration has severally blamed the PDP for the woes that has befallen his regime even though most of his current associates and allies were former members of the opposition.

Politics / Siege: We Must Get You, Police Tells Melaye by PMBNG(m): 10:05pm On Dec 28, 2018
The Nigeria Police has vowed to arrest Dino Melaye, Senator representing Kogi West at the Senate.

Mr Melaye had earlier in the day raised alarm of a police seige laid at his Abuja residence.

Moments after raising the alarm, the Police forcefully gained access to his compound and has continued with the siege.

The police personnel believes the lawmaker is in the building despite denial from Melaye.

Stating its reason for the siege, the Police in a statement from its spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, said the Senator is wanted in connection to an alleged attack on a police personnel.

“The Police operatives currently in the residence of Senator Dino Melaye are to effect his arrest to answer to the case of attempted culpable homicide on the shooting of a Police Officer, Sgt Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) while on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi state,” the statement from Moshood said.

“The above offence was committed by Senator Dino Melaye and his armed thugs in Kogi State on the 19th July, 2018 when they shot and wounded a police officer, Sgt Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) while on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi state.

“The Police Officer is yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack and still under intensive medical care.

“The Police investigators have written the Clerk of the National Assembly for Senator Dino Melaye to report at Kogi State Police Command, CIID, Lokoja for him to answer to these offences against him under investigation in Kogi State Police Command but he has bluntly refused to report himself to the Police.

“The Police operatives will continue to be in wait at the residence of Senator Dino Melaye until he surrenders himself for arrest. The offence for which Senator Dino Melaye is being investigated is capital in nature and not compoundable.

“The Force will not tolerate attack on its personnel by any individual no matter how highly placed. The law must take its course,” it added.

Melaye and the police have had a running battle since the senator was named by suspects in a murder case.

The latest development comes days after the lawmaker hinted of plans to abduct and inject him to death.

Dino Melaye, lawmaker representing Kogi West at the Senate has raised alarm over siege around his residence.

The development is coming days after his latest scuffle with the Nigerian Police.

The senator had recently said there were plans to abduct him and inject him with poisonous substance which will lead to his dead.

“There is a plan by the IG to arrest me today and inject me to death. Men deployed already. CP kogi and others removed. Nigerians watch out,” Melaye tweeted on Tuesday.

The police through its spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, debunked the claim.

Raising fresh alarm on Friday, Melaye noted that routes to his residence has been taken over by the police.

“All entrances to my residence in Mississippi have been secured by the police that claim there is no order to arrest me,” the lawmaker said in a tweet.

“One truck by centagon school too. Media and Nigerians take note. We have pictures of those involved,” he added.

Mr Melaye and the police have had a running battle since the senator was named by suspects in a murder case.

Politics / Buhari: Why The Fight Against Corruption Is Slow by PMBNG(m): 10:10am On Dec 26, 2018
Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s President, has revealed why the fight against corruption under his administration is slow.

Mr Buhari who seeks a second term in office has often been referred to as ‘Baba Go Slow’ by critics of the administration.

But speaking when he played host to the federal capital territory community, who paid him Christmas homage at his official residence on Tuesday in Abuja, the president said the system is to be blamed for the slow pace in the fight against graft.

Buhari who intends to flag of his presidential campaign this Friday in the South South region said his campaign train would visit the six geo-political zone in the country to remain them of the 3 major promises he made to them.

“We are watching the Independent National Electoral Commission very seriously and we are going out very soon; we will go from geo-political zone to geo-political zone, to remind the people of our promises in 2015,” the president said.

“These three fundamental things include security, because you have to secure the country before you can govern it and talking about what we have done regarding securing the country, the people of the north-east know better.

“The three fundamental things we campaigned with are still very relevant. On improving the economy, which we are still going to explore, we have done well in agriculture, and those who embraced farming are not regretting it and we have also addressed unemployment and we are very lucky, through that we are now attaining food security.

“The third thing with which we will campaign is the issue of corruption.

“I told you what I did when I was in uniform but now when I have to go by this system (democracy,) where people have to be arrested and then prosecuted, taken to court and then with evidence, we will collect back what they had taken illegally and for doing that, people are calling me Baba go slow.

“I am going slowly but whatever the case, I will not stop pointing fingers at those who have abused trust by taking money that does not belong to them. I will keep on trying to do my best for this country and get back what belongs to the country,” Buhari added.

Politics / Saraki: Why Buhari Should Release Deji Adeyanju by PMBNG(m): 5:55am On Dec 25, 2018
Bukola Saraki, Senate President, has called for the unconditional release of Deji Adeyanju, detained political activist.

Mr Adeyanju travail started when he led a protest demanding service chiefs to be apolitical as the next goes to elect its leaders in next year’s general election.

Some service chiefs had graced a political event in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is seeking a second term in office. It was on this basis that triggered the protest.

Adeyanju was arrested alongside his colleagues, they were immediately arraigned on sundry charges, granted bail and he was released after spending eight days behind bars.

On release, he returned to the Police which previously arrested him to retrieve one of his 3 phones and was arrested again to stand trial for an old case, for which he had been discharged and acquitted by a court in Kano years ago.

Adeyanju was then remanded in prison till February 6, 2019 when the matter could be heard at a higher court.

The top lawmaker said Adeyanju’s travail was more political than judicial and urged the Mr Buhari to order his release.

Saraki urged the president to set the activist free as keeping him behind bars portrayed the present administration in bad light as a government that is intolerant of criticism and suppressing views of the opposition, indicating that dictatorial tendencies are becoming rife in a democratic country.

In a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President said the action of the police indicated a deliberate attempt to get Adeyanju out of circulation.

“The way the matter has been handled and the last decision of the Magistrate Court to remand the young man in prison till after the conclusion of the 2019 Polls has presented our democracy in bad light. We are now looking like a country that has receded to the period of military rule,” Saraki said.

“The President needs to intervene to find out whether the current travail of Deji Adeyanju has anything to do with his frequently expressed viewpoints against the Federal Government and why his arrest after leading a protest has now ignited all the various charges being filed against him and if it was true that the charges for which he has been remanded in prison till February had actually being adjudicated upon by the High Court.

“It should be noted that prior to the coming to office of this government, those of us in opposition, the APC, freely criticized the Goodluck Jonathan government and flayed their actions and statements without any attempt by the administration to stifle opposing views. This administration which benefitted from such open market place of ideas, which is a key tenet of a democratic regime, cannot offer anything less to our people.

“At this point, President Buhari should not allow the excesses and over-zealousness of some security agents to give his government a bad name and that is why I think he should interfere and let the world know the truth about this case. It is obvious that this case is purely political and not about any judicial action. I also call on all human rights protection groups to wade into this matter and ensure we do not watch helplessly as the rights of a citizen is being trampled upon”, Saraki added.
