*Visa Alert*
This is hands down one of my most trying and stretching moments.
Bio - Ikeja TLS - 10th August.
First paid mail 7th September. Awaiting decision.
Second paid mail 8th September - Escalated and told me to wait for 15 working days.
Over the wait, I made over 5 paid calls and was told same thing. Awaiting decision. Still at DMC.
At this point, I left it to God and kept myself busy with other things. I also carried my school along so they know the status of things at the UKVI.

19th September - Another paid mail - Decision made. Same day moved to VAC.

21st September- Received by VAC. Collection mail dropped shortly after and passport picked up same day.

Finally vignette sitting pretty

Thanks to all that contributed. Duchess just wise frankob lagisismyhome. God bless you all.

To those still waiting, it will end in praise.

See you all in cold Scotland wink

Travel / Nigerian Lawyers Practicing In Scotland, Please Share Your Experience So Far by pokosimani: 2:25pm On Feb 15, 2022
Dear Nlanders, I am a qualified lawyer in Nigeria and married to a Scottish resident. I plan to relocate to join my family later in the year. Anyone practicing or working over there in Scotland is welcome to share his/her experience. What is the qualification path like? Are there really a plethora of jobs available? What is the off-chance one can find a job as a solicitor? What is the average lifestyle like over there?

Looking forward to shared experiences.

Gracias.

Hmmm.
I'm currently in a similar situation. I work with one of the commercial banks here in Nigeria and my wife of less than a year lives in the UK. We're expecting our first child so we're making plans for me to move over. She's also a nurse there and has been living in the UK for over 12 years.
I hope it all works out as the plan is to move over next year.

Just commit it into God's hands. You cannot run away from your wife and kids. Be smart, read up about life in the UK, network, increase your skillset and keep your eyes out for opportunities. God will see us through. Both decisions come with their risks. Staying back in Naija is a problem. Leaving is risky. Choose wisely.

Hi, @justwise I have some questions I wanted to discuss with you concerning living working and studying in Scotland. Would it be possible to get you on WhatsApp, please?
Thank you.
justwise:

No you can't use your uncle's bank statement but he can pay the money into your account if he really wants to sponsor you..

Frankly I don't think you will be able to work part time to pay remaining fees, rent, bills and feeding and at the time study full time. MBA is about one year intensive program with little time for work.
Travel / Re: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by pokosimani: 4:29pm On Jul 06, 2021
Please I need advice on something. If I am married to a resident with ILR and the 2 years elapses, what happens? Would I still have to go back to Nigeria? Also, do the 20 hours of work per week apply to students married to holders of ILR with kids?

maangel01:

Most people are not planning on what happens after the two years post study work expires.

They don't know you will have to switch to another visa inorder to stay back otherwise you will find your way home.

So I really advice that as you are planning for your studies, you should also plan on your options if you want to stay back. Have a backup plan in place.

My candid advice.

I know very well that with the 2 years psw, you can take up any employment, but make sure you take up employment with a company that can sponsor you after the 2 years psw expires.

Brother... if you know what Stockholm syndrome is, then you will understand that some people choose unconsciously to fall in love with poverty. I hope God answers your prayers and his mediocre spirit is revitalized grin grin

That's why I rejected it for you. Do I need to tell u how much I earn? What's 150k that will come with security. Are u even aware of what's going on in this country? So, to you 150k is money. And after earning that 150k running helter and skelter answering Yes sir yes sir, you will get home and still end up running your Yamaha gen all through the night for what your so-called government supposed to be taking care of for you.

I rebuke every spirit of mediocrity in your life brother.

Properties / Thread For Young People Looking To Share Apartments, Flats Etc In Lagos.. by pokosimani: 10:36am On Apr 22, 2021
Nlanders,
Due to the hike in rent in Lagos, I think it's necessary to help ourselves. As young professionals, if you're in need of accommodation and willing to share a flat with others and split the rent, kindly indicate. This may be a life saver.

Best of luck.

This is very different from the current situation.
Besides, why resign from a job when you don't have full details about the job you're intending to take up?
usb2016:

Oga You better stay put on your bank job angry angry! . Kindly read below a brother story narrated to me yesterday and advise yourself about the decision you about to make...

Today is exactly 10years I resigned from my lucrative job that was paying me as much as N200k monthly as of then and ran to Lagos because of an advert I saw on Guardian Newspaper..
"An international/multinational company in Lagos is looking for suitably qualified science and arts graduates to market it's Great brands in Nigeria.. Salary is a minimum of N400k and a vehicle will be provided.. bla bla bla"
.
I applied through their email as provided..
.
Before 2 hours.. I was replied.. You have qualified for the interview and final stage and was given one month to resign and come for the final stage of the interview..
.
That time.. I had this lady Boss in my office that never liked me.. I came next morning and arrogantly told her, "Folake, I am Done with this your MENIAL job.. you can now have my position for all I care"..
.
I resigned.. Next morning, entered Ekenedirichukwu first bus to Lagos!
.
People of Gawd.. I am still shaking my head as I write this..
.
I reached Lagos safely..
Next morning I was at the address.. A "container" shop with a small room they called a warehouse attached, somewhere around Okokomaiko..
.
9:30am.. one haggard and hungry looking man in a lemon Green unbalanced coat popped out.. the idiot said he got A Great news for us.. He announced to us that all of us who have managed to come for this interview have automatically qualified.. I looked round. Over 2000 people qualified to work where?? In this caravan abi naa container!!
No interview.. no write this or that.. The Spirit to cry befell my Heart.. wahala be like okro soup.. e de draw!
.
The man said we should all clap for ourselves and sit down for lectures.. hmmmm.. people actually clapped.. Lagos children!.. Nothing scares them again.. people that clapped for Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.. what can't they clap for..
Ndi ara juru naa Lagos..
.
My left mind smiled and sarcastically clapped too for my right mind like, "well done.. next Time always look before you leap"..
.
These guys started telling us of how we can get a basket and load it with their range of products.. Then a bus will be provided.. azzin that's the vehicle to be given as stated in the advert.. A Mega phone attached to the bus to tell the people about the range of products. While we run around and meet prospective customers.. any of the soap, cream or "ogwu anwu nta" you sell.. you get N5!..
.
The man sounded soooooo happy announcing to us that we are rewarded instantly.. and the Great reward is N5 that I nearly fainted..
Fada Lawd.. why do bad thing always happen to Good people?
.
Aaaahh.. ahhh..
Am I dreaming?? From salary of 200k a month.. I am coming to look for N5.. am I dreaming or what??... Kedu udiri akuko di ihe a
.
The man continued.. as if he was in my mind.. you can sell 400 products a day and that's you making 200k a day.. That's 400k in two days.. so when we said salary of 400k a month.. it's an understatement.. you can see that you are worth N5m in 25 working days..
They clapped again.. even gave him standing ovation..
Ndi ara juru naa Lagos, I swear..
.
God imagine your Child.. running on foot selling these unknown creams and rubbish and making 200k a day.. I go don run enter Boko haram camp without knowing.. person fit follow the bus run.. run.. run.. soteeeeeh you run mad and you don't have any idea that you have run out of your senses!!
.
That was when tears rolled down my left eye.. I caught it with my kerchief.. my stomach just did kpurururrurru!!.. e be like shit de catch me.. my legs have not started running.. I am already having running stomach!
.
In about a minute.. I just saw myself sobbing.. my heart was just too heavy.. I needed to cry small for my Destiny.. ihe nke a, wu niini sef??..
my nose was running too like a covid patient..
.
It was then it dawned on me to ask those around me their qualifications.. maybe I am at the wrong place.. maybe I read the wrong advert.. this must be for WAEC holders and bandits or miscreants!!!...
I asked the few around me.. This one said he has a HND in applied physics, the other OND in something laidat.. surprisingly, one said BSc Microbiology..
Epilepsy nearly do me, when the one by my side whispered to me that he has MBA marketing.. and he was listening to the junky man with rapt attention.. azzin he doesn't wanna loose this job!!
.
Imagine the kind of graduate jobs in Nigeria.. tufiakwa!!!
.
I just knelt down, took my phone and called Foluke.. "Biko..ejooor.. mbok.. I am sorry, that my position I said you should have, just keep am for me.. I am entering night bus now.. if you have another person there.. me and am go de share the salary like PDP vs APC sharing our loot and Natural resources..!!"
.
This was how a tusatusa company, carry sweet advert drag me come Lagos to add me to the list of ndi Ara juru naa Lagos!!!.. but I ran away grin grin grin!

I have been working for a tier 1 Bank in Nigeria for some time and so far it has been quite good. I work with great people and the pay is reasonable. Recently, I got an offer to work in a multinational telecoms company. While this seems like a good offer, I am worried about working for Chinese/Indian companies because of the negative report about them generally. Your considered opinions and/or experiences would be appreciated.

Many thanks...

Full-time employment for both companies.
conditions of the Bank are quite fair. It's the working condition of the Chinese telco that has got me thinking and pondering.
As per flair. the job description is largely the same. It's just the industry that is different. Banking - Telco
Grateful for the responses received so far.

Uzorp:

In my honest opinion there are a lot of factors to put into consideration before I give you a professional opinion.
First , what is the nature of your employment with the bank you currently work with and what kind of employment are you being offered at the telecommunications company?
Secondly, what are you drawn to? Do you think you have a flair for that industry?
Lastly, what contains are you currently working under with the bank and what conditions will you be working with in the telecom organisation?

Once you can answer this I will give you proper directions.

Good luck

Thanks for the insight. Much appreciated.

Emmerlee:
If it is Huawei leave the bank and accept the offer quickly before it's too late.

The experience in Huawei (a multi-national telecom giant) is much different from the average Chinese owned one man business out there, don't let the terrible emotional stories out there deceive you. You can't compare the remuneration (the complete package) and the other perks with what the average Nigerian companies offer.

Unless you are a top executive in your bank and doing extremely well, don't let this opportunity pass you by smiley

Thanks for this..
The Bank work isn't really stressful. My decision to leave would be solely for career advancement and to have that experience on my resume.

Oyewale25:

me I av few questions to ask.
Is the bank work stressed u dat much? did they treat u wit respect? is the bank work affecting ur home/ relationship? av there been any career growth from the bank?

Think abt dos things before leaving. Cos personally from my experience Chinese/Indian/Lebanese company is nothing to talk abt. Fine the pay might be quite good, but trust me u will work for dat money, sometimes dey feels they are doing u a favour with the pay.

Not of all of them thou, I av few people who says good things abt dem just like some bad and good Nigeria owned companies too.

I had encouraged u to do finding abt the company well from people who worked there probably via LinkedIn. Ask questions as regards to why the position is vacant in the first place and lot more. I hope this helps.

Good Luck

Salary is about 50% higher than my current take-home with added allowances and benefits. As for improvement, I'm not quite sure but I guess that's a personal decision to make. Pieces of training at the current job are limited to areas concerning financial institutions. Lastly, there would be no need to move address as both companies are in Lagos. Not quite sure about house/flat/car allowances.
Thanks

Neutralobserver:

1. What is the salary like at new job compared with old job?

2.Any room for advancement, training, etc, etc. in new job vs old job

3.Any fringe benefits like extra allowances, offical car, house/flat, etc etc. Do you have to move adress to take job? Are you comfortable moving address?

I remember around when the show started, a guy on Twitter accused Tobi of snatching his girlfriend back in school. The guy was dragged on Twitter and accused of being an attention seeker. Now seeing as Tobi is shamelessly flirting with Anto right infront of Lolu, I'm starting to believe the accusation is true. No wonder he rushed to nominate Lolu on Monday despite the fact that they've been hanging out a lot recently. Shameless girlfriend snatcher, little wonder he's besties with a guy smashing someone else's girlfriend. Birds of the same feather.
