LiteratureRe: My Problems With Most Nigerian Writers by Polando: 12:09am On Feb 17, 2010
My problem with Nigerian writers is the lack of originality.

Since Chimamanda blew up, every one now wants to write like her.

Then there is the magical realism that the Europeans think that's all we are about, so the writers think they have to keep writing about animals that talk and evil spirits.

LiteratureRe: Do The Nigeria Media Pay Enough Attention To Literature? by Polando: 11:57pm On Feb 16, 2010
No they don't. For a long time the media has been focusing on Nollywood and the music industry. I think it's high time writers get some attention too.
LiteratureRe: How To React To Rejection Slips From Publishers. by Polando: 11:56pm On Feb 16, 2010
Rejection hurts cry

How do writers pick themselves up and carry on? Must be some huge amount of self-belief

Aside: You know Bisi Ojediran and Helon Habila?
LiteratureRe: Who Is The Greatest Of These Writers? by Polando: 11:49pm On Feb 16, 2010
Cyprian Ekwensi does it for me. I'll go with Chinua Achebe over Wole Soyinka any day. Soyinka's writing makes my head ache. Ekwensi's writing style is very natural.

I have read the Abyssinian Boy but not the Icarus Girl. I would like to know if they are actually as similar.

LiteratureRe: Never Pay To Publish Your Books by Polando: 11:41pm On Feb 16, 2010
There's so much talk about Vanity Publishing and Self-Publishing these days.

If one has a good manuscript, and wants to self-publish, do we need to pay for editing and proofreading services too?
