Freddestiny: About the issue of mix marriage, I can't marry somebody who is not a catholic nd I hv rejected so many men for marriage cause dey r not catholics.most of dem don't care cause am a woman nd dey will say woman does not have church. I am consecrated to Jesus Christ through the Blessed Virgin Mary so am always with the brown scapular nd imagine a man dat wants to date u is alrdy saying dat I will leave the catholic church. I can't marry a man dat will tell I can't pray d rosary cause he feels am worshiping idol so I will rather stick with the catholics so I agree with POPE nd Italo

woky: 1corinthians 7:12-14

To the rest is say (i, not the lord ) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. For unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy .

My questions are:

Do the catholic church acknowledges the fact that an unbeliever can be save??
If YES, can you marry an atheisthuh

Dnt 4gt that love is strong when anwering the second question grin
Real unbelievers, not people living in denial
No I can't

woky: To all

pls note that your catholic faith is more important than any relationship

lets try to marry a spouse that will understand our faith, because our faith is the foundation of our world

marry a spouse that will at least allow you to share your joyful expectation at christmas, your sorrow during lent and your glorious joy of easther

dont marry a spouse that sees the catholic faith and teachings as evil becous it wil affect the christain life/belief of ur children..
That's why I said marriage is not only about love, where do you place your faith/religious life , does it stop with your marriage? What if the dude or girl refuse you to say anything about Catholicism to the kids? Na wahala b this ooo
Where do you go to church? Do you attend masses wit. The kids or alone? Or u will make turns ?

italo: Still on the 'mixed-marriage issue.'

I would do everything humanly possible to marry a Catholic and avoid marrying a non-Catholic...but if it is God's will that i marry even an Atheist, so be it.

Here are some of my reasons for preferring a Catholic at all costs.

A faithful Catholic sees marriage as indissoluble but many other sects: some protestants, Atheists etc dont have a problem with divorce. E.g Chris Okotie. So if i marry one of them and she divorces me in court, i'll be in a dilemma because i'd still be married to her in the eyes of the Church.

A non-Catholic wife is very likely to teach the kids things that are contrary to the faith...and outright sinful.

A faithful Catholic will increase my faith while a non-Catholic might even weaken it...knowingly or unknowingly.

There are many more+

italo: I dont entirely agree with your 2nd & 3rd paragraph.

What "individual quality" could be more important than the content and state of one's soul.

I'd rather not marry one who can endanger the souls of ourselves and our innocent children.

I'd rather not marry one who will refuse to accept the Church's teaching on issues like NFP only, no contraception, no condom etc...

...one who will tell my kids that Mary is an idol.

It's not discrimination. It's simply saying: 'I love you as a child of God but I don't think it's best I marry you.'
Spot on , well said sir . The Muslim will tell to my kids that Jesus is not God etc
The protestants will start talking about Mary torn V abi o must prevent all form of future embarrassment.

@ stricklymi what's your take on the new trend: the kids will follow what they want when they grow up ? I bet you are against, so if you marry a non Catholic do you plan to impose Catholicism on your children regardless their mum's wish or you will adopt the new trend
Christianity EtcRe: A Thread For Catholics by POPEII: 3:34pm On Dec 18, 2013
woky: my standhuh

Marriage is the process by which two people(man and woman) who love each other make their relationship public , official and permanent. Therefore marrages btwn non-catholics or what ever religion are considered valid

one question for you..

As a lady, can you marry a non-catholic?
What's really the value in a marriage? Is marriage only about love? Would you marry an AIDS infected girl in the name of love ? Or an impotent guy ?

They are considered valid? Mehn I really don't know about that, all my aunts who got married to non catholics did their marriage in those business ventures ,
And my uncles who got married to non catholics made them embrace catholicism today I even think they are more Catholic than me Abi . They found the light and can't stop talking about it
Even my mom still harmers on it.....you should try to marry a Catholic.
Then I keep telling her......you dont know whom God has destined for me. supposing he's a non-catholic, should i now obey my mom and disobey God?
we are alll sons and daughters of God. I think some people needs to understand that more..
God can inspire or guide you but you still have the last word it is called freewill. So by obeying your mum you don't necessarily disobey him , it was already written that you will marry a Catholic grin cheesy cheesy

And yes we are all his children, however some of us are on the wrong path and thou shall not join them except if they are willing to change, you can fall in love with a non Catholic, but your duty is to make him embrace Catholicism and get married in the holy mother church
Christianity EtcRe: A Thread For Catholics by POPEII: 3:17pm On Dec 18, 2013
striktlymi: I am quick to speak out against any form of perceived or actual descrimination because it is quite wrong to see first, one's creed, culture, Religious or Irreligious affiliation etc before seeing the individual as a human being.

We are one under God and based on this premise, it would be grossly unfair to ask a Catholic single to base his or her assessment of a future spouse on whether the individual is a Catholic or not.

Our assessment of a future spouse should be based strictly on the individual's qualities and not his private orientation because a good husband or wife will NEVER deprive you of that which you hold dear.

The most Holy faith we share as Catholics is a gift that each one of us should cherish. Anyone who tries to deprive us from this gift can't be said to be a great marital candidate; just as we are not supposed to deprive people of what they hold dear.

Thus, assessing an individual for marriage based on the Catholic way could be done without necessarily descriminating the individual on the grounds of the individual's religious or irreligious affiliation.
this politician sef, okay take it this way you have xcatholic and ynoncatholic , they are both "perfect" meaning they all have what you look for in a future wife Nd both are very endowed who are you to choose? And why ?
This time you can't beat around the Bush and stay neutral grin tongue

I don't want to raise another debate, but I don't think having preferences is a form of discrimination esp personal preferences which do not affect anyone but you .

@ harbiola and octo, if Allah means God , why is that in your shahada you guys said, there's no other God but Allah ? It means Allah is God but not the translation of God(in English) to Arabic, I hope you guys don't think you are dealing with illiterates here .the shahada is clear Allah doesn't mean God, this is a new ideology muslims are trying to pass Allah is the moon's God

captcochrane: @op, wd u guys say Olorun/Olodumare (i dont know if u're yoruba) is an idol? no u wont because they're yoruba translations for God - so, Allah has been d translation 4 God since d beginning of arabian/arabic
nd moreso, wd u say u're forced to read nd write in english in skul because u're igbo/yoruba/hausa? no u wont cos dts wat we regard as standard for education here in nigeria - so arabic is d standard for Islam
u said why didnt our Prophet destroy kabbah? no he didnt nd wouldnt, why? because it was built by prophet Ibrahim AS nd his son; Ismail AS to worship Almighty Allah, so my broda, Muhammad SAW only cleansed d kabbah by ejectin d idolators
Please use paragraphs angryand calm down we are learning from each other undecided

Mary can and will never b an idol, there's no idolatry in honouring our mother and the mother of our God.

I understand you perfectly. Why do you stop @ Mary ? We can continue why the marriage in cana not in Lagos? Why John the Baptist and not another man ? Why joseph and not Paul or Patrick? Why Judas and not Peter? huh huh
Christianity EtcRe: Do Islam Really Worship The Almighty God Or Moon-god?. by POPEII: 5:44pm On Dec 16, 2013
Why Mohamed didn't destroy the kabba ?
Can you destroy the pagan artefacts without destroying the shrine?

Why do you pray in direction of the kabba and in Arabic only, isn't Allah supposed to b omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent ?
Christianity EtcRe: Bitter Truth About Blessed Virgin Mary by POPEII: 5:41pm On Dec 16, 2013
fijiano202: no one does, thats why Hes Called God
good to acknowledge that, why then do you keep questioning his choice ? Can God do something useless and worthless? No therefore Mary can b useless and worthless, she's Mary the mother of God, there's no such thing as he could have selected another another woman. He picked Mary so let's deal with Mary and honour her .

8. Catholics should try not to marry non-Catholics because such marriages sometimes result in loss of Faith on the part of the Catholic and in neglect of the religious training of the children. The Church does sometimes, but always reluctantly and only for very grave reasons, grant dispensations from her law regarding these mixed marriages. When the Church does grant them, she always insists that the non-Catholic party promise (sometimes even in writing) not to interfere with the Catholic life of the other party. Also that both parties have all the children of the marriage baptized and brought up in the Catholic Faith. Most priests would probably advise caution and clearly state expectations. Of course, there is the idea and understanding that some mixed marriages will later turn out a convert. So trying to stick to dating Catholics only might be a better idea just for the sake of simplicity. Doesn’t mean it can’t happen the other way, of course. {side note: I happen to know a couple whose mixed marriage produced two sons who are practicing Catholics, one of whom is a seminarian, and the non-Catholic spouse ended up becoming Catholic but it did take 22 years for this to happen.} So, while it is ideal for couples to be both Catholic, it is not unknown for there to be successful mixed marriages as long as certain expectations are observed from the beginning.***

What do you guys think about this^ esp the the bolded part? It seems like many Catholics are fond of non catholics , is love really blind? tongue

As for me I can't marry a non Catholic, what about you ? I know the women will come with their you can not control your heart and feelings but erm
