Crime / Mob Apprehend Two Notorious Robbers In Port Harcourt by PortHakotTimes(m): 12:08pm On Oct 02, 2017
Luck ran out of two of five man robbery gang that normally operates around old Portharcourt Township, when vigilant youths in the area Apprehended them after snatching a bag containing one hundred and fifty thousand Naira plus six phones.
According to the victim, a phone repairer, ” I came down from the bus that took me from my workshop then head home through a pathway, five men surrounded me, snatched my bag and walked away. I didn’t struggle with them because I don’t know if they’re armed. Unknown to them, I know one of them very well, so I ran straight to my house and take some boys who helped me to catch two of the men.
Though, we’re able to get sixty thousand Naira out of one hundred and fifty thousand Naira they took from me, my major worry is six phones which includes a Samsung and iPhone with combined worth of upto five hundred thousand Naira belonging to my customers. ”

Governor Nyesom Wike’s effort in improving on infrastructures in Rivers State is really in top gear.

During his electoral campaign in 2014, The Governor promised to deliver a standard jetty at ever busy Bonny Waterway Terminal, located at Creek Road, Portharcourt.
When the governor flagged off the project last year, many people prayed for it success and early completion because of huge number of people making a living there.Even though the company handling the project seem to be slow, but the quality of job so far is of high standard.

Politics / Supreme Court Judgement ; Goodluck Jonathan Congratulate PDP by PortHakotTimes(m): 3:07pm On Jul 12, 2017
Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, congratulated the opposition party for the peaceful resolution of the crisis that have rocked the party for some time now. He asked some members of the party who left during the crisis to return and help in rebuilding process.
It could be recalled that Supreme Court today sacked Alhaji Modu Sheriff and ruled that Alhaji Makarfi is the authentic National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

I congratulate my political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, on the successful resolution of its leadership crisis by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.I believe in our jurists. We may have issues with some individuals but the Nigerian judiciary deserves our respect and commendation. They have served this country well.Today’s verdict is a judgment where there are no winners or losers. It is a verdict that will bring our party together. We should all thank the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As I congratulate the Ahmed Makarfi led Caretaker Committee, I want to strongly urge them not to see this as a victory of a section of the party, but as a moral victory of constitutionality over arbitrariness. Thus, they must take inspiration from General Yakubu Gowon and declare a ‘no victor and no vanquished policy’.As a senior member of the party, I hereby call on all those who left the party because of its leadership issues to return to their natural home and build the PDP.The PDP is an inclusive vehicle not an exclusive one. We see Nigerians as human beings deserving of the rule of law, separation of powers and a free market economy that provides a level playing ground for all.The party that gave Nigeria the largest economy in Africa is a party whose heart is large enough to find a place for all Nigerians.I thank God for this day of Justice and may God bless Nigeria. GEJ.

Biko stop this f*cking misinformation. Amaechi reconstructed most Urban roads in old Port Harcourt and the issue with Creek Road is expansion. Amaechi wanted to expand the road but the unintelligent people fell for the politics of lies and rejected it. Wike as usual will leave the road as narrow as it has always been.
It's better Amaechi never touched those old Portharcourt inner roads instead of using the roads to compensate those touts that helped him win election.
Go and inspect the roads again and see its dilapidated conditions just less than 4 years.

The Long awaited reconstruction of badly damaged creek road situated at old Portharcourt Township has started in full speed.

The road which has suffered from inconsistencies of past administrations of the state has now been temporarily converted to an extension of famous CREEK ROAD MARKET.

When interviewed by Portharcourttimes, most of the traders using the road expressed their disappointment with the government, though most of traders commended the government for the project but lamented the demolition of the CREEK ROAD MARKET before starting the road which means they will be jobless in no distant future.
While the traders are lamenteding, the residents are overjoyed, according to one of the residents by name Tamuno, the bad state of the road has been a nightmare for us here, we’re very happy and hope its not abandoned again, I thank Governor Nyesom Wike for redeeming his electoral pledges.

The road is being constructed by Julius Berger, a construction giant.

Celebrities / Tupac’s Break-up Letter To Madonna To Auction For $100,000 by PortHakotTimes(m): 3:05pm On Jul 06, 2017
A three-page handwritten letter by the late American rapper, Tupac Shakur, explaining why he ended his relationship with Madonna has been recovered and plans are underway to auction it for $100,000 or more.

On Wednesday, TMZ published portions of the letter—written Jan. 15, 1995 at 4:30am that Tupac wrote to Madonna while serving time for a sexual assault at Clinton Correctional Facility.

In the letter, Tupac explained why he had to break up with the ‘Human Nature’ singer. He mentioned that it was because she is white, adding that he would have let down those who made him who he was if he had continued with the relationship.

my previous perception, I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was.”I never meant to hurt you.” You gotta read the entire note. It will go up for auction July 19-28 at Gotta Have Rock and Roll. Starting bid is $100k and it’s expected to fetch a lot more. The last letter written by Tupac sold for more than $170,000.

Politics / Biafra Sovereignty Suit : Court Strikes Out Nigeria’s Objections. by PortHakotTimes(m): 5:41pm On Jul 04, 2017
The Federal High Court sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Tuesday, struck out the counter motion by the Federal Government challenging sovereignty suit by the Bilie Human Rights Initiatives on behalf of the Supreme Council of Elders of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

Presiding Judge, Justice Louis Alagoa, who struck out the counter motion of the Federal Government after listening to the submissions of Prof. Alphonus Dike (SAN), the lead counsel of the appellants, noted that the defendants have not only refused to appear in court to argue their motion, but have equally remained incommunicado.

According Justice Alagoa, “The motion challenging the Appellants’ locus standi to institute the suit against the Nigeria Federation is hereby struck out because the defendants since filing their motion have not deemed it fit to appear in the court and they have also not given any reason for their non appearance.

He added that even if the defendants come back that issue would no longer be entertained and so the hearing on suit would continue.

It would be recalled that the Bilie Human Rights Initiative had, in 2013, sued Federal Republic of Nigeria in suit No. FHC/OW/CS/192/2013 over the sovereignty of Biafra.

Reacting to the ruling of the court, Chief Joe Achuzie said that it is what the People have been saying that the remnant of Biafra people have the ask for the restoration of her sovereignty and that case have only just began .

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu ; ECOWAS Court Fixes 27th Of April For Ruling. by PortHakotTimes(m): 1:26pm On Mar 07, 2017
ABUJA— The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, today, entertained a lawsuit filed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, bordering on the abuse and violation of his fundamental human rights and his illegal detention against the Nigerian government.

The court proceedings began at 10am, shortly after the arrival of the plaintiff’s lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor and three-man panel of judges involving Hon. Justice Micah Wilkns Wright of Liberia, Hon. Justice Yaya Boiro of Benin Republic and Hon. Justice Alioune Sall of Senegal.

The justices in their rulings dismissed the various applications filed by the Federal government of Nigeria demanding the striking out of the suit on grounds that the regional court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case.

The Court however disagreed with this position, stating that it has the jurisdiction to entertain the suit since it is bordered on the enforcement of human rights of the applicant and thus dismissed the application of the FG for lacking in merit.

According to the judge: “it is an absolute garbage for the federal government of Nigeria to ask us not to rule on this matter, once Ecowas court is involved, we have the power to hear the case.”

Further submissions of the plaintiff’s lawyer was also declined by the court who affirmed it is vividly clear in this case that the Nigerian government are not able to defend the lawsuit filed against Nnamdi Kanu and that they will be no longer allowed to delay the suit as they urgently want an end to it and the detained freed unconditionally as ordered by previous Nigerian courts.

The judges in what seems to be a final opportunity to allow the Federal government to tender a valid and genuine reason why the Applicant, Nnamdi Kanu should not be granted bail, adjourned the case to 27th April, after which it will then strike out the case as they have threatened.

Mr Wright Wilkins the presiding judge in his ruling for today said: “I have to adjourn this matter to 27th of April, 2017 for final ruling, if the Nigerian government is not ready to provide cogent reasons why Nnamdi Kanu should be held unconstitutionally, we will strike out the case and do justice to the applicant”
