We all need to sing Buhari's praise better than this |
He is a noble man |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday night assured loyal All Progressives Congress members, who would work for his victory in 2019 of a handsome reward. Buhari admitted that he had not been able to fully reward those who worked for him to emerge as President in 2015. However, he stressed that in 2019, it would be a different ballgame as his loyal supporters would be rewarded. Buhari spoke at the old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, during the launch of one of his support groups, “Together Nigeria.” The President said, ” At this point, I would like to acknowledge the overwhelming support I enjoyed from individuals and organizations across the country over the years. “I say thank you to all those who contributed to our success in one way or the other. “Some of you, individuals and organisations, may be feeling disappointed because we have not been able to please everyone. “I would like to assure you that this time hard work and loyalty will be rewarded adequately. “Finally, I wish to thank the Together Nigeria Group for educating the world about our good work and achievements. I will like to also thank our celebrities for projecting the image of Nigeria globally and for your contributions to the development of our entertainment industries.” The President’s wife, Aisha Buhari; wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo; Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura; and his colleague from Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, attended the event. Also, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and several Nollywood stars witnessed the launch. Speaking at the event, a member of the House of Representatives, Mr Mohammed Kazaure, told the audience that he had yet to see anyone who would defeat Buhari. Describing the President as the “old man”, Kazaure said, “I have not seen anybody that will defeat that old man Buhari.” He also praised Aisha for being frank with her comments on the President’s administration. However, he claimed that if given another four years, Buhari “will be better.” http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/12/i-will-reward-those-who-work-for-my.html?m=1

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has disclosed plans to meet with all stakeholders including registered political parties to brainstorm on the controversies trailing the Electoral Act and how to make the 2019 elections credible. Speaking to reporters, yesterday, after a media-gender sensitive programme organised by INEC in Lagos, INEC’s Deputy Director on Gender, Mrs. Blessing Obidegwu, said the Professor Yakubu Mahmood-led electoral commission is putting all measures in place to make the forthcoming elections the most credible in the nation’s history. Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari sparked controversies when, for the fourth time he refused to put assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. Against that background, Mrs. Obidiegwu said: “the commission has plans of meeting with stakeholders this week and I believe there will be a lasting solution. I am confident that with the level of our preparation, we will have credible elections come 2019. “INEC is doing a lot to make 2019 most credible. We started with planning. We have looked at our processes and plans, also looked at the technology we will deploy and we are engaging stakeholders like political parties, civil societies and the media. “We appeal to other stakeholder to be part of making 2019 elections the most credible ever as the commission cannot do it alone.” The INEC Gender Director had earlier decried the under-reporting and participation of women politicians in past elections, saying: “The commission is trying to get women involved in the 2019 elections by enhancing their participation in the electoral process and one of the ways is to get women politicians reported positively by journalists. This was why the commission put up a seminar on gender-sensitive reporting on election. “In the time past, women politicians were stereotyped and unjustly reported in very trivial matters.” http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/12/inec-unveils-plan-to-meet-apc-pdp.html?m=1

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the President Muhammadu Buhari will not steal the country’s money and will not allow others to steal it. He said the difference between him and other presidential candidates is that others are seeking office in 2019 to steal money. Osinbajo spoke at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Door-To-Door-Campaign flag off of the Professor Yemi Osinbajo (PYO) Support Group. Addressing the crowd of party supporters, Osinbajo said there are leaders who want to steal and those who want to use the country’s money for the common good. He explained that Buhari belongs to those who want to use the country’s money for the common good. He said: “We should not allow those who have stolen our money in the past to come back. They stole all the money and they want to come. People are saying, enough is enough. “In four years, PDP spent 383 US dollars. And they want to come back. Sixteen years is enough. “After 16 years of ensuring that the country did not make progress, they want to come back. They will never come back.” Osinbajo noted that Nigeria’s greatest problem is corruption and the inability of planning because without money you cannot executive any plan; hence the need to stop those who have stolen in the past from returning. The APC Vice Presidential candidate said the door-to-door is more effective in reaching out to the people, saying it goes a long way in speaking directly to the people about the plans of the government for the people. He explained that the door-to-door campaign is much impacting because the electorate would be met at their homes and the message delivered to them. Also speaking, the Director-General of the PYO support group Pastor Yomi Kasali said the organisation has raised 900,000 canvassers for Lagos State. He explained that each canvasser is expected to meet with 50 people. The Vice President later visited some parts of Ogba and Ikeja, where he was received by cheering residents of the communities. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/12/2019-buhari-will-not-allow-people-steal.html?m=1

The All Progressives Congress has said what the Peoples Democratic Party owes Nigerians are apologies for its “16 years of misrule,” and not campaign. The ruling party said it was “an affront on the electorate” for PDP leaders to embark on campaign at zonal rallies “after leaving the country in a mess just three and half years ago.” The APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, said this during an interaction with journalists on Sunday in Abuja. He said, “What we expect the PDP to do in this rally is to go to the zones and apologise profusely, demonstrate remorse, which they have failed to do. And they keep going to those zones for rally to insult people. “When we go out for campaign, we will be doing two things because this campaign for APC is about two issues. “We are going to bring character into focus. And for the candidates of the PDP, we won’t go too far stressing the need to review who you are but the person you work with. “We will also examine the personality of the presidential candidates, especially President Muhammadu Buhari and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of PDP, as well as the numerous achievements of the current administration in the last few years.” When asked why the APC had yet to raise the National Campaign Council, Onilu said, “Well, we don’t have any problem at all and we are very okay because campaign, as you may know, is just one aspect of it. “There are many other platforms to engage with the people. Rally, is just one.” According to Onilu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo is the best person to review the character of Atiku, which, he claimed, has been done in his (Obasanjo) book already. “He (Obasanjo) told us he found him to be very unreliable person, somebody that is not trustworthy, that he found him to be somebody who compromises the system for personal gain. “And we have evidence to that and we must bring that to focus. And we must continue to thank President Obasanjo for being so patriotic to have alerted the country to the dangers. “The second leg of our campaign will be stewardship. We have been in government for three and a half years. We are going to give report of our stewardship. “Every kilometer of road that we have done is a reminder to the systemic years of waste under the previous governments. “Every rail track that we have laid is a reminder to the systemic wastefulness of PDP. “The continuous increase in enrollment of pupils across the nation and the school feeding programme. It is a reminder to the 13.5 million pupils who were out of school under PDP. “So, the campaign will be about stewardship and what we have used the three and a half years to do. “All the abandoned projects that we have fixed. Check our Gross Domestic Product, it is no longer a mono product economy. It is now an economy that you have contribution from agriculture and solid minerals making solid impact on our GDP. That is diversification. “A lot of Nigerians would travel this December for Christmas and the New Year. They would see the progress we have made on the roads that were nightmares for travellers under the PDP government and they would continue to see improvement.” http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/12/nigerians-deserve-apologies-from-pdp.html?m=1

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over a special federal executive council (FEC) meeting aimed to finalise works on the 2019 budget. Adebayo Shittu, communications, and Solomon Dalung, minister of sports and youth development, took the opening prayer. The meeting is to exhaustively deliberate on the budget before transmitting it to the national assembly. The council had in October approved the 2019-2021 medium term expenditure framework (MTEF) and fiscal strategy paper, and forwarded same to the national assembly for its consideration and approval. Last month, Udoma Udoma, minister of budget and national planning, had announced that the federal government was considering a leaner 2019 budget of N8.6 trillion, which is leaner than the N9.1 trillion approved by lawmakers for 2018. He explained at a consultative forum on the medium term expenditure framework (MTEF) and fiscal strategy paper (FSP) 2019-2021, that the decision was due to reduced government revenue projection for the year. Udoma also said government planned to cut down the level of borrowing from N1.6 trillion in 2018 to N1.5 trillion in 2019, while the deficit component would be reduced from N1.9 trillion in 2018 to N1.6 trillion. In spite of the recent oil output drop to about 1.9 million barrels a day, Udoma said government was optimistic, explaining that the 2.3 million barrels a day target was achievable with production rising to 2.15 million barrels a day and new oil productions being put into play. Although a $50 per barrel oil price benchmark was proposed in the ERGP, the minister had expressed confidence that with a significant rise in the price above $80 per barrel currently, government has proposed a $60 per barrel oil price for the budget. Udoma has added that N305 was proposed as exchange rate to the dollar, with government working to keep inflation down after slight increases in the last two months on the heels of 18 months consecutive decline. On revenue, Udoma had said based on the oil price and oil production assumptions, government expected to generate about N3.6 trillion from oil, up by about N500 billion from last year’s figure. About N6.9 trillion revenue is projected to be available to the budget in 2019. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/12/2019-budget-buhari-preside-over-special.html?m=1
