Politics / I Will Continue To Canvass For Revival Of Lake Chad, Says Buhari by poscabafash: 7:54pm On Nov 09, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari Friday, in Abuja, said his administration would continue to champion the campaign for the revival of the Lake Chad and exert more commitment from the developed countries to do the needful.

The president, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, made the remarks during a courtesy call on him by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).

Adesina said Buhari who was also invested as the Patron of NCF, said it was regrettable that the issue of the receding Lake Chad had not been addressed till recent times.

He quoted him as saying, ‘‘The problem of climate change is real. The desert encroachment is aggravating it. The population explosion in Nigeria is another big challenge.

‘‘The drying up of Lake Chad is a serious thing for Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin countries. Nigeria is much more affected because fishing, animal husbandry and farming are affected very seriously.
‘‘We are trying to prick the conscience of the developed countries that have the resources and the technology to quickly execute the inter basin transfer from Congo Basin to Chad Basin.”

According to the statement, Buhari welcomed the advocacy by NCF on the need to protect endangered plants and animals in the country and directed the Federal Ministry of Environment to reflect this in its budgetary requirements in the next fiscal year.

Politics / Nigerian Workers Ecstatic As Buhari Moves To Increase Minimunm Wage by poscabafash: 8:39am On Nov 07, 2018
Millions of Nigerian workers were abosolutely ecstatic yesterday over the new N30,000 appoved minimum wage.

“I am fully committed to having a new national Minimum Wage Act in the very near future,” President Muhammadu Buhari said.

He was receiving the report of the committee set up to resolve the wage problem.

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Ayuba Wabba led the way in hailing the presentation of the N30,000 minimum wage recomendation report to Buhari.

He said payment of the new wage might be difficult at the beginning of implementation, but “if there is the will, we are certain that there will be a way out.”
He told reporters at the Villa after the Tripartite Commttee submitted its report to the President: “When the N18,000 was actually implemented in 2011, most of the states emptied their treasury. They had difficulty.”

Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director-General Muda Yusuf said although the private sector was paying above the current minimum wage, “there may be different challenges for the SMEs as they may adopt different models for engagement. Rather than keep all the staff, they may rationalise them by inviting only those that they need at a particular time. The big corporations have nothing to worry about as they are already paying the minimum wage.”

He praised the government for working successfully with the private sector and labour to arrive at an acceptable figure and averting a strike.

Workers were jubilating over the new wage. In Kano, Ibadan and Abakaliki, they were delighted at the approval of the new pay.

A cross section of the workers who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan said the successful meeting of the tripartite committee was appreciated.

Mr Peter Ojelakin, of the National Population Commission (NPC) said a good welfare package was the wish of every civil servant, adding that a dedicated worker would not have interest in embarking on a strike.

“So, the suspension of the strike that supposed to begin today is a good development,” he said.
Mr Rasheed Abdulwahab was happy over the agreement labour reached with the government but noted that increase in wages, might lead to inflation, a development he said called for an improved economy.

He, however, called on workers to justify the salary increase by putting in their best to ensure the desired improvement in the social and economic development of the country.

Mr Lekan Dojutelegan, a surveyor at the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, hailed the government for shifting ground on its earlier proposed N24, 000.

Dojutelegan urged civil servants to be more diligent and committed to their duties, saying that optimum performance would enable the government to pay the new minimum wage with ease.

Kano State NLC Chairman Kabiru Ado Minjibir, praised the national leaderships of NLC, TUC and ULC, “for standing firm on the decision of the Central Working Committee and their resilience to protect the interest of Nigerian workers, especially at this trying period.”

Politics / I’m Committed To Eliminating Corruption – Buhari by poscabafash: 11:26am On Nov 06, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the current administration was committed to eliminating corruption in the country.

The President said his administration was not leaving any stone unturned in the battle against graft, while advising the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, to work with all relevant agencies to ensure full compliance with government directive on preference for locally produced goods and services.

President Buhari spoke at the first day of a 2-day and conference awards night organised by National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA at the International Conference Centre, Abuja which began on Monday.

President Buhari declared open the 2018 e-Nigeria international conference and exhibition, organised by NITDA.

He was accompanied by former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu who was also the keynote speaker; Minister of Information, Adebayo Shittu; Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalong; among others.
Buhari also charged NITDA to report any government agency that failed to comply with the new IT Clearance directive.

President Buhari said, “All these are aimed at promoting the digital economy in an era of disruptive technology through effective regulations."

“Of particular note is NITDA’s initiative focused on the Registration of IT Contractors and Service Providers in collaboration with other regulatory bodies with special emphasis on competencies.

“This will ensure the delivery of quality IT projects, as well as facilitate the development of indigenous IT companies in line with global best practices.

‘‘You may also recall the remark about NITDA’s efforts at enforcing Federal Government’s directive on ensuring that all ICT projects in the country are cleared by it before implementation.

‘‘This will ensure that government’s ICT procurements are transparent, aligned with government’s IT shared vision and policy, lead to cost savings through promotion of shared services, avoid duplication, ensure compatibility of IT systems and improve efficiency in government business, enforce the patronage of indigenous companies where capacity exists; and uphold the highest standards for service delivery.

“In this administration’s efforts at ensuring full realisation of these objectives, a new Circular was issued in August this year, to reiterate this directive.

‘‘NITDA is expected to work with all relevant government agencies to ensure full compliance with this directive. Defaulters of IT Clearance among the public establishments are to be reported to government.

‘‘We are serious about fighting corruption. We must not fail in our quest to eliminate corruption in government businesses and in the wider society.

“I understand that the agency worked with relevant stakeholders in developing the document. I continue to encourage the Agency to use its regulatory instruments in ensuring full socialisation and implementation of this document.

“We emphasised the need for the public service to be highly competitive, innovative and digitally-enabled to deliver public services and effectively drive government programs and policies.

“I note that NITDA and other relevant government agencies have taken this up by creating the enabling environment through the development of policies, frameworks, standards and guidelines.

“I am aware that some of these regulatory instruments have been subjected to critical scrutiny and revision through a series of stakeholder engagements.

“Efforts should be intensified at making them public as well as sensitising public servants and the general public about the value of these regulatory instruments.

“The enforcement of the use of the policy on Treasury Single Account (TSA), the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the impact they have made on the administration’s public financial management reforms.”

Politics / "I Reassured Nigerians My Administration Will Sustain Massive Investments" - PMB by poscabafash: 10:06am On Nov 06, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to the Nigerian Labour Congress to reconsider its planned nationwide strike on November 6th over new Minimum Wage.

The President made this appeal when he received members of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria led by Ambassador Oladapo Fafowora at the Presidential Villa on Monday.

The NLC strike is planned to begin on Tuesday, November 6 and in a statement by Femi Adesina, the President called for calm, saying his administration was doing more with fewer resources.

The statement read in part: “President Buhari also appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress to consider what this government inherited and the more it is doing with fewer resources in putting the economy right.

“The president reassured Nigerians that his administration will sustain massive investments to upgrade and develop the country’s transport and power infrastructure.

“He said Nigerians will never forget the ‘‘lost opportunity between 1999 and 2015,’’ when the nation had huge resources at its disposal.
“There is no part of the country I haven’t been to, having attempted to be President four times.

”I know the condition of our roads. The rails were literally killed, there was no power despite the admittance of some previous leadership that they spent $16bn on the sector.

”Today, we are getting our priorities right and we believe that of the three fundamental issues we campaigned on – security, the economy and fighting corruption-, we have remained very relevant and Nigerians believe we have achieved something.

“I will do my best to see that where there are possibilities of making a quick improvement on infrastructure, we will do it.”

Politics / President Buhari Keeps Nigeria Safer Than Past Govt, Says Lai Mohammed by poscabafash: 3:18pm On Nov 05, 2018
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, says President Muhammadu Buhari has kept Nigeria “safer than it was before the advent of his Administration in 2015”.

The minister stated this on Monday in Abuja at a ceremony to bid farewell to foreign bikers who had undergone a tour of the nation’s monuments, museums and other cultural heritage and tourist sites.
The bikers, under the aegis of Latin America Motorcycle Association (LAMA), had undertaken the tour with the theme: “Rediscover Heritage Bikers Tour Projecr”.

The tour, inaugurated by the minister in Abuja on Oct. 23, had taken the bikers to eight states – Niger, Kogi, Enugu, Cross River, Rivers, Edo, Oyo Lagos – and the Federal capital territory, during which they visited many sites.

Speaking at the event, the minister said that the tour had been a success from the accounts of the bikers and it was an attestation that Nigeria is safer that when Buhari took over in 2015.

“From the report that I have received, this tour is a great success.

“It is also an attestation to the fact that Nigeria is indeed a safe destination for tourists and business people alike.

“Yes, there are security challenges here and there, and this is not peculiar to Nigeria.

“But our country is safer today than it was before the advent of this Administration in 2015, thanks to the political will shown by the Administration and the commitment of our security agencies,” he said.

The minister said that unlike armchair analysts who had labelled Nigeria unsafe, the bikers had crisscrossed the country by road and returned safe and sound.

“They are practical men and women who zoomed across the country on their power bikes.

“No one can tell the story better than them. And the feedback we have received is overwhelmingly positive.
“I congratulate you all for this great adventure. I thank you for ignoring the naysayers and for having the courage and the confidence and the open mind to see things for yourselves.

“As you go, I urge you all to become great ambassadors of our great country, Nigeria. And I hope you will come back here in the not-too-distant future,” he said.

The minister thanked the President of LAMA, Mr Marip Nieves; the President of LAMA Nigeria, Mr Ernest Akhikpemelo; the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, the NTA and the sponsors of the event.

He wished all the foreign bikers a safe journey back to their various countries.

On his part, Nieves said the tour had been “a trip of my life” coming from the Caribbean to discover his root.
He said Nigeria is safe contrary to the reports in international media and the government should endeavour to promote its tourism potentials to attract more tourists.

Nieves said that from their experiences and what they learn from the museums, monuments and heritage sites they visited, Nigeria like other African countries has a rich history and heritage.

“Africa has incredible civilisation which we have been able to witness from this trip.

“Besides having a great time, we have used this tour to promote peace, love, harmony and tourism in line with our objectives,” he said.

Akhikpemelo, the President of LAMA, Nigeria chapter, said the vision behind the tour was to promote Nigeria tourism and show to the world that the country is safe for investments and tourism.

NAN recalls that the bikers had travelled to Gurara Falls in Niger; The coal city of Enugu, the Millennium Park, Slave History Museum, Tinapa Lake Resort all in Cross River; the national museum in Port Harcourt and Rivers State.

They also toured the ancient city of Benin in Edo State where they visited the
National Museum, among others; the ancient city of Ibadan in Oyo State; Lagos Mega City and of course many sites in the FCT.

Politics / Buhari Will Win 2019 Election With A Wide Margin - Presidency by poscabafash: 1:46pm On Nov 05, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has described the 2019 presidential election as a contest between light and darkness that he expects the president to win.

While speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today on Sunday, November 4, 2018, the president's spokesperson said Nigerians will decide on the right candidate who'll move the nation forward.

He said, "What we know is that a contest is ahead and it is going to be a contest between light and darkness, between integrity and people who have question marks; between a man whose life is plain and transparent and a man with so much opacity that you can't say, well, this is his life, this is his background and this is how he got this and that.

"It's going to be a fair contest and, at the end of the day, Nigerians will decide."

The 2019 presidential election, scheduled for February 16, 2019, is expected to be closely-fought between President Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

During Sunday's interview, Adesina also expressed his belief that President Buhari will win with a wider margin than he used to win the 2015 contest.

He said he believes Nigerians will vote for continuity so that the president can consolidate on the achievements of his first term.

He said, "Our conviction is that the party will win by a wider margin, far wider margin, than in 2015. Look around, what is the alternative? Can we afford to take the country back into the infamous past? It would be very sad. It would be quite shameful to take Nigeria back into the past.

"The best option for Nigeria is a continuity of what we have now so that it can be properly consolidated for a better future and Nigerians know it.

"The option is President Buhari to be re-elected. Our confidence is that President Buhari will win the election."

In 2015, the president won with 15,424,921 votes, 2.5 million votes more than second-placed Goodluck Jonathan who won 12,853,162 votes. It was the first time an opposition candidate had beaten an incumbent president in a democratic election.

Politics / "Buhari’s Completed, Ongoing Projects Are Unmatchable" by poscabafash: 11:50am On Nov 05, 2018
Executive Director of Projects EDP on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Engr Samuel Adjogbe, yesterday said that numerous completed and ongoing projects of the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration were unmatchable by any standard.

Fielding questions from newsmen, shortly after being honoured for ‘Outstanding Performance in Leading Change’, Adjogbe said President Buhari’s commitment to infrastructural development is clearly visible in the Niger Delta region and the nation at large.

The EDP who was represented by his Technical Assistant, Mr Nelson Onwo said “with the spate of completed projects so far, one must agree that such commitment to infrastructural project development has never been demonstrated before now.” While thanking the organizers of the event for the recognition, he said it was a call to do more.

Alluding to the newly commissioned Port Harcourt International Airport Terminal by the Federal Government, Adjogbe said that: “Just like the newly commissioned Port Harcourt International Airport Terminal and several other mega projects by the Federal Government, NDDC shall continue in the likes of the recently completed Ogbia – Nembe road project.

“Furthermore, the Okerenekoko-Omadino-Escravos road project which is currently at contracting stage, is a reflection of this relentless drive on the part of NDDC”.

Presenting the Award, Keynote Speaker at the event Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi said the Award was in recognition of the recipient’s continual support and exceptional contributions to the advancement of the nation.

Noting that Engr Samuel Adjogbe has exuded astute value and exemplary leadership role as an Executive Director, Projects NDDC, he said that such attributes were worthy of emulation.

Politics / The Truth Behind HSBC 'leaving' And Other Political Related Issues - @teguando1 by poscabafash: 10:54am On Nov 05, 2018
I stumbled on this Twitter thread by @Teguando1 and obviously a must read for all 'political minded' citizens.

READ THE THREAD CAREFULLY AND COMMENT YOUR RESERVATIONS;

1. I will be doing a thread on this evening.
As usual, Buharist like us are not the
etc who takes delight in telling lies & misinforming their followers because of politics.
They are shameless & still continue to lie after being busted @HSBC
@AMADICHIMA @adeyanjudeji
@effalixumab

2. They've are always out to quickly catch up on any negative rumour without confirmation, push the narrative as if it's true all in a bid to embarrass this administration,bt end up embarrassing themselves.
From WAEC to the lastest "leaving" propagated by lying @HSBC
@MobilePunch

3. I don't know why a PhD holder can't take time out to do little research on issues before tweeting ? I cannot but agree with a Buharist, who said "we live in an era of smart phones, but stupid people".
Google ought to be our friend, but these guys chooses otherwise. @idowu553

4. Of what relevance is a bank like
to the growth of our economy if it profits in sole source of profitability is assisting in helping corrupt politicians, public officers etc in flexing our economy of our Commonwealth to Dubai,America ,UK and other tax free heavens ? @HSBC

5. Pple have been screaming about the exit of HSBC & UBS as sign of bad economics. That's a huge lie. I will try to explain it in a very simple way. HSBC & UBS were never set up for regular banking. When I say regular banking I mean retail banking. They never ran salary accounts

6. They were never set up to afford loans to customers etc. Their sole purpose was to help customers who can afford their services an easy way to transfer funds overseas.
Many do not know that since the inception of BVN which has made it easier for financial regulatory bodies

7. To monitor outflow & inflow on every account, HSBC has been plotting their exit. If anyone can make their books public, you would find out they had more outflow than inflow. BVN was created February 2014 and then enforced by this government as from 2015. What did that do?

8. Every account owner was forced to get a BVN code on their account (s). So if law enforcement and financial regulatory bodies accuse you of fraud, with your BVN they can tell which account(s) you have funds stashed. Any account without a BVN can no longer be run.

9. Movement of (illegal) huge sums especially overseas became a massive problem. So imagine a bank whose main source of revenue is moving funds overseas, suddenly can stay for months on end and the only customers you get are those who maybe want pay school fees overseas or

10. Medicals, won't you close shop? No more wires of $200,000 & above to Dubai to buy that exotic penthouse or carrying on wit shopping sprees. No more bank instruments to private jet companies overseas etc
Importation of big boy toys; yachts, helicopters av reduced drastically.

11. Now, once you try to initiate a huge wire transfer, CBN red flags that account and next thing you know compliance is calling the account officer to produce KYC. Within minutes SFU is doing a background check, thunder fire you if you are a civil servant or close to government.

12. You would have to explain what the funds are for/how they were acquired and this drastically hit such banks like HSBC and UBS! Banks like Stanbic IBTC are able to stay afloat because even though they use the same model as HSBC, they are also solid in retail banking.

13. Any bank that opens shop under this current government with the sole aim of moving funds overseas will surely fail!
Look closely at those who are leading groups against PMB they are private jet, helicopter, yacht, school owners. Not real manufacturers like Dangote etc

14. Many own those beautiful houses we see in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Muscat, Seychelles, London, USA etc
Notable names in Panama Scandal, United State Senate Indictment reports and the list goes on....
* Make I drink water first and will continue*

15. Go to our airports especially Lagos and Abuja, all those beautiful girls who once used to sell Dubai real estate deals are out of jobs. The few you see have stopped hounding travelers like before. Once upon a time you would see them hanging around airports and 5 star hotels,

16. it made me wonder why Nigerians were seriously marketing UAE real estate. How do you think the transactions were being made? Through banks like HSBC & UBS (many of our local banks also were complicit) Now every dollar that passes through CBN to a foreign bank must av complete

17. Paperwork! Bankers are now very careful, no one wants to be invited by SFU (special fraud unit) or EFCC to produce a customer. Who are those crying about their exit? The Fayoses, Atikus, Ben Bruces and their minions etc. Look at the youth coming online to defend them;

18. Many were being flown by helicopter to private resorts all over the country/world for privates parties .That tap has dried up and that’s the reason you see many of them online pouring vituperation on PMB.
That free money for living large without reasonable source blocked

19. About 4 years ago, I told a friend that if PMB wins election few banks would be in trouble, Buhari won and it didn't take long it started happening. Many of the bank heads used depositors monies to sponsor politicians/campaigns, when investigations started many tried to not

20. Only hide their shady deals but shield customers under investigation. Why won't these people hate PMB? Why won't they blame their woes on PMB? When I say many of these banks aren't setup for the common man, people wonder at what I mean.

21. A very good example; write a lovely proposal for a good business deal and take to the banks and 90% of the time you wont get funding but let APC and PDP finish primaries and produce governorship candidates. Both candidates can work into same bank and get as much as N500m each

22. for campaigns. Banks didn't care then. What's the worst that could happen? Worst case scenario, one candidate would lose. Whoever wins would bring enough investments that would cover the N1bn both took, that was conventional banking until PMB came onboard.

23. If say ABC bank sponsors XYZ politician and he wins he would make sure almost all state accounts go to ABC bank.
Some governors went as far as making their account officers commissioners as compensation (I don’t want to call names).

24. Some bank relationship managers would go on leave close to election period to join their clients on the campaign trail, once the client wins they resign their appointments with the bank and become political appointees.
This was the terrible rot going on in the banking system.

25. Why would a bank worker do that if the bank hasn't invested heavily on that politician? Suddenly PMB appears with this yeye BVN, TSA! Banks now see SFU officers like regular staff as they are monitoring everything. under magu has become a pain in the ass because @officialEFCC

26. Money can't just disappear. Who do they blame? PMB! The instant BVN came into effect; do you know how many accounts were lying dormant because of BVN? With huge sums in them! Many folks especially people being investigated wouldn't want to come forward to claim them; Oga Magu

27. And gang are waiting.
When many of these politicians or billionaires tell you the economy isn't doing so well, look closely at the person because many of them patronize these 5 star hotels. Some rooms go as much N300, 000 a night. Once upon time some folks would pay for

28. As much as one year for a room/suite upfront. Many of those militants/ folks involved in oil bunkering operate this way. Mondays through Fridays they are in the creeks sabotaging oil installations, Friday they get into their convoys to PHC and then jet off to Abuja and Lagos

29. Where they eventually check into these hotels. You enter a place like Transcorp weekends you see them at the lobby, poolside and by Monday morning, banks are wiring funds to these hotels to cover expenses. Today, the oil bunkering isn’t as lucrative as it once was.

30. First price of crude has dropped so selling bunkered oil isn't really worth it as it used to be. Secondly many countries are cutting down on the purchase of crude and third our military is hitting them harder than before so who is to blame? and @MBuhari
@ProfOsinbajo

31.They tell you banks are falling becaus of PMB; lie! Banks are falling becaus banks were never made for the common man. I mean naija banks! TSA has collapsed most government accounts in2 central accounts. So we no longer have many government accounts littered all over our banks

32. Many of such accounts were set up just to steal and launder government monies.
Are these tweets saying Nigeria has suddenly become fine for the common man? HELL NO! Nigeria for some years now has never favored us the ordinary folks but this is the first time we are seeing

33. The crooked elite joining us to complain! The fact they are complaining means something is being done to halt their crooked ways. Whatever it is, CONTINUE! And as 4D common man, we didn’t get here in 4 years! It took years of plundering, bad/no planning to get here. @MBuhari

34. It will take a while to get us out,nt d magical wan of 4 years .
We scream Ghana ,Rwanda, Malaysia ,China etc It took proper planning ,sacrifice ,pains & support for leadership vision to actualize what we envy them for today.

Trust to take us close to if not there. @MBuhari
35. As I close this thread,I leave the lying (that has thrown the principles of true journalism to the dogs),
with this truth : closed because of good work is doing and this
God Bless Nigeria. @MobilePunch
