He explained that as a group there strength and weapon is their Permanent Voters Certificate (PVC). “Our PVC is our strength and weapon we will use to dismantle the opposition and install the leadership we all crave for, which is the return of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019,” he said. He said the last 16 years witnessed the destruction of the economy through massive looting never before witnessed in the history of the country. Prince Adeshola added that the impunity that pervaded the previous administration greatly undermined the economic growth of the country. PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has approved N6.5 billion for some irrigation projects, Minister of Water Resources Suleiman Adamu has said. The minister said the N6.5 billion was part of a N13 billion counterpart funding needed to implement the Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria Project (TRIMING). He said the World Bank was ready to invest $495 million as a credit facility for the TRIMING project. Adamu stated this yesterday while reeling out his three years scorecard as a minister and also to celebrate Nigeria Media Water Week in Abuja. He said the Buhari administration initiated the National Irrigation Development Programme to aid diversification of the economy, guarantee food security and create employment. The minister added that the administration’s effort on irrigation would enable it deliver 42,000 hectares of irrigated farmland in 2018 and 41,000Ha in 2019. He said the target is to achieve 500,000Ha irrigated farmland by 2030 under the project. The minister said: “To aid diversification of our economy, guarantee food security and create employment, we have initiated the National Irrigation Development Programme which is aimed to establish additional 100,000Ha of irrigated farmland by 2020 and another 500,000Ha by 2030. “We also plan for additional 1,000,000Ha of irrigable land to be developed by the private sector and state governments within the same period. Our current effort will enable us to deliver 42,000Ha in 2018 and 41,000Ha in 2019. “The World Bank is supporting the implementation of TRIMING with a credit facility of $495 million. The project involves rehabilitation, expansion of about 42,000Ha of irrigation land under the first phase to be completed by 2022. “The counterpart funding required for TRIMING is in the region of N13 billion and President Muhammadu Buhari has graciously approved 50 per cent of that counterpart funding. “We expect the project to proceed at the speed of light.” The minister said on assumption of office in 2015, he undertook a technical audit and review of projects in the water sector and discovered that there were 116 abandoned and uncompleted water projects left behind by past administrations. The minister said this enabled his ministry to prioritise the 116 uncompleted and abandoned projects. He added that the ministry, under his watch, only added two new projects – which he did not name, to the ones he met on ground. The minister also said his ministry under its National Water Resources Masterplan and Roadmap identified that Nigeria had hydropower potential of 12,220 megawatts. He said only 1,930MW of this potential has been developed at Kainji, Jebba and Shiroro dams. “We are currently making progress for the concessioning of 30MW Gurara Hydropower plant, which is planned to come into full operations soon. We are also progressing on our collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to concession the 40MW Kashimbila hydropower plant, recently completed. “We are in advanced discussions with potential investors for other hydropower projects, including Gurara II (350MW), Lokoja (750MW) and Makurdi (1,000MW), among others,” the minister added. http://www.africaeagle.com/2018/11/buhari-approves-n65-billion-for.html?m=1

Following the successes recorded in the N-Power programme of the Buhari administration and the growing need for government’s direct intervention in job creation, the Federal Government will expand the N-Power scheme to accommodate 1 million beneficiaries in the next phase, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN. The Vice President who stated this while responding to a variety of questions from Nigerians across different professions and persuasions, at a town hall meeting in Abuja yesterday, said the programme would become the largest post-tertiary job scheme in Africa. According to him, “the idea of N-Power is supposed to be government’s own programme of direct employment and training. At the moment, we have taken up to 500,000 and in the next phase we are looking at another 200,000 and closely followed by another 300,000. “In all, we will be employing up to a million, and that will be the largest post-tertiary job programme in the entire Africa. The reason why we have done this is because of the employment problems that we have, we may not be able to engage everybody but at least government must give some direct provision of jobs.” Prof. Osinbajo explained further that though government could not pay more than the N30,000 currently paid to beneficiaries and also fix all the unemployment issues, it is working on creating the enabling environment to ensure that beneficiaries as well as other unemployed Nigerians become useful to themselves. He said: “It is infrastructure that will create the opportunities to provide more jobs, especially through manufacturing and Industry. “So, we are doing roads and rail, providing power; that is the way we can develop industry. We are energizing our markets at the moment, putting solar power in the markets. We have designated 300 markets, we have done Ariaria in the South East, Sabon Gari in Kano, Surat in Lagos, Isikan in Ondo, Gbagi in Oyo and we are expanding so that more people can work.” Earlier, the Ministers of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola; Industry, Trade and investment, Dr. Okey Enelamah; Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi; and Agriculture, Dr. Audu Ogbe, responded separately to issues relating to their various ministries. The town hall meeting was organized by Act Now, a non-political group that works in promoting transparency and good governance as well as youth participation in governance. http://www.africaeagle.com/2018/11/n-power-to-become-africa-largest-post.html?m=1

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that the Federal Government expended N2.7 trillion on agriculture and provision of other critical infrastructure in the 2017 budget. The minister disclosed this at a Town Hall Meeting in Dutse on Monday to boost agriculture in the state in particular and the country in general. The meeting had four ministers in attendance: Water Resources, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu, Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Trade, Industry and Investment (state), Hajiya Aisha Abubakar and Information. NAN quoted Mohammed as saying that the government has been busy in rehabilitating and constructing rail lines to link all parts of the country with one another. According to the minister, it was necessary to ensure transportion of perishable products like tomatoes, pineapples, onion among others to avoid wastage. In his remark, agriculture minister, Chief Ogbeh said that it was unfortunate that most of the perishable items get spoiled on the way due to vehicle breakdown or other reasons, hence the need for alternative transportation. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/11/buhari-govt-has-spent-n27trn-on.html?m=0

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola said the Buhari Government has fulfilled its promise of power supply through generation of additional electricity to Nigerians since 2015. Fashola spoke at a news conference in Abuja on Monday. Fashola, who presented his third year progress report said federal government at inception of the current administration promised to improve electricity supply via incremental, stable and ultimately uninterrupted power supply. “With regard to our mandate on power supply, I promised that we will improve on the gas supply, increase the transmission capacity, pay Ministry Departments and Agency (MDA) debts and generally improve your experience with power supply. “First by getting incremental power, then proceed to stable power and hopefully reach uninterrupted power. “I am happy to report that we have walked our talk, and we have delivered visible results and recorded qualitative progress.“ He said government had improved on what it met in 2015 by increasing generation from 4000MW to 7000MW, transmission from 5000MW to 7000MW and distribution from 2,690MW to 5,222MW. According to the minister, efforts were still on to deliver additional power to Nigerians. “Our work is clearly not finished, and we are still in the process of delivering additional generation from Kaduna power plant, 215MW, Afam IV plant, 240MW, Kashimbilla 40MW, Gurara 30MW, Dadinkowa 29MW.“ He said government was also in final stage of providing power supply to nine universities and 15 markets. Fashola said two big hydro power plants of 700MW in Zungeru and 3,050MW in Mambilla were also work-in-progress. The Minister said to further improve transmission of power, 90 transmission projects were on-going across the nation with recent completion of Apo, Mayo Belwa, Damaturu, Maiduguri, Odogunyan and Ejigbo transmission lines. On construction of distribution infrastructure, Fashola said over 100 injection sub-stations was been constructed, adding that a distribution expansion programme to be funded by the federal government had reached advanced state of procurement. He, however noted that there were still Nigerians who were yet to be supplied electricity, adding that government and all the value chain operators were making efforts to deliver power to Nigerians. “Although there are still people, we have not reached, although there are still disruptions from time to time, and although there are still people who also need meters, we are working to reach them. “But it is indisputable that we have delivered on incremental power. “The evidence of our progress is not only captured in the last quarter of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report for Q2 of 2018 which shows a growth of 7.5 per cent in the electricity sector. “Previous quarterly reports from 2017, have consistently recorded growth, a clear departure from 2014, 2015 and proof of change.“ Fashola said the report of the ministry’s survey and feedback mechanism confirmed that many Nigerians now have public power for longer hours compared to 2015. “And you now run generators for shorter periods compared to 2015 and you now spend less money on diesel to power your generators. “As some citizens recently reported, they no longer have to iron all their clothes one week in advance as they previously used to do. “Because the supply is proving reliable and predictable even if not yet fully stable and uninterrupted. “This is progress that we must move forward by consolidating on our mandate of change, we cannot go back. “As our policies on mini grids, Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Eligible Customer and liquidity sustenance and improved governance deepens, your experience with power supply can only get better,“ he said. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/11/buharis-government-has-delivered.html?m=0

The Nigeria Diaspora Network is currently calling for signatures for a petition asking the US to grant Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), entrance to the country so he can face the law. Abubakar, who was indicted in a report for money laundering, had said he was yet to visit US because he was denied visa. Ahead of the 2019 elections, however, Gbenga Daniel, director-general of Atiku’s campaign, said the presidential candidate has been invited for his US visa. In a petition, addressed to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), the department of justice (DoJ) and the US senate permanent subcommittee on investigations, the diaspora network wants the US to grant him visa, so the FBI can put him on their watchlist for possible arrest and prosecution. “Currently, Mr Abubakar, who has also been named in a number of high-profile corruption scandals at home in Nigeria, is running for the Presidency of the Nigeria. It is disheartening that at a time Nigeria is elevating the fight against corruption, and seeking the support and assistance of foreign countries like the United States to tackle corruption and repatriate looted funds, Mr Abubakar is aspiring to the highest office in the land,” the petition read. “Since shortly after that investigation was published, Mr Abubakar has not visited the United States. We believe that this is because the United States government has refused to grant him a visa on account of his role in the corruption scandals highlighted in the Senate Report. In 2015 he put up his Washington, DC mansion for sale. “We are now aware that he is working hard to lobby the United States Government to reverse its decision regarding his eligibility for a visa. His goal is to make a statement by paying a visit to the United States and then using that to advance the narrative that the corruption allegations are unfounded and baseless. “We are also now aware that he has hired one of the most important lobbying firms in the United States, Ballard Partners, to ensure that he is granted a visa to the United States and is able to visit before the Nigerian presidential elections in February 2019. “We are asking that the United States Government expedite action to grant him this visa to enable him face the justice he has evaded for so long.” Source: http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/11/grant-atiku-visa-so-he-can-account-for.html?m=0
