First of all, congratulations on your soon to be awarded master's degree. Proceeding, have you been granted admission/funding for your PhD program? Securing visa is a combination of a whole lot. The aim is trying to convince the VO you're a legitimate potential student for a PhD study. Completing your master's degree is already a good sign. Hence applying from SA or Nigeria might be a miniature consideration in your case. In most cases people would always advice that one applies from his/her home country. But this doesn't mean you can't be given a visa applying from another country - you are most likely going to be asked this question by the VO; "why arent you applying from your home country". There are a thousand and one tenable reasons you can give to justify this.

In answering your second question, it's always advisable to be sincere with your answers. Most certainly it will always make more sense to return to your home country to resume work. Thats more logical and plausible.

Anything else you need to know? Prepare, prepare, prepare. The odds favor those who are prepared.

I wish you well.

Thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate it.

Yes. I have secured a funded position.

If asked; why are you not applying from your home country. I intend to relay; I got admitted for the doctoral position and needed to apply for the F-1 visa whilst still busy with my MSc program (here in South Africa).

I would also like to know if I have a fully-funded position, will I still be required to provide the vo with a statement of account (to prove additional sources of funding for travels and miscellaneous). If the answer is in the affirmative, how much on average is expected in the bank account and am I allowed to use my personal statement or it must be that of a parent (or guardian)?

Thanks again.

Honestly, No one can say if it will pass but present your case well. If it is the case, Tell your Interviewer that you currently work there now and upon your return to Nigeria, The knowledge, skills, and experience gained while studying abroad would help you work effectively and efficiently for the company that provided the BURSARY. Let the Visa officer know that you CURRENTLY work there now and only taking a Leave of absence to pursue your post-graduate degree and would return thereafter to your current job.
Go with your employment letter, If it is the case oh. And A letter of support from your company too.

Udo diri gi. Good luck!

hi house,
can you kindly give ideas about Universities/states where a Nigerian can apply to with HND certificate?
Pls guys reply me.
@justwisee @NigPatriot @Predstan @Malone122 @meritdee @fairheart @bukkymbo
Almost every University in the U.S will accept you with HND.
To be able to get into virtually all universities, evaluate your academic transcript with WES and ECE. This will give you access to every potential universities.

OND +HND is not inferior to a single BSC. You can apply to any school students with BSC can apply to.
All the best!

It can pass. smiley But questions like these might be asked:
What is your relationship with this company?
Why is it paying the deficit?
How long have you been working there?

From shared experience of applicants on and off this thread, it seems the consular want to be sure there's established relationship with you and the company and that you have been with them for a while. Just last week, a student used his company statement of account and was bounced. He told me the consular asked why is the company sponsoring him? What is his position, and how long has he been working with the company. He said he has been there as a IT engineer for 1 year. That ends it; he was refused.

If your deficit is low, you will likely get your visa. Make sure you have letter stating the reason you qualify to be sponsored, and what the company aim to get from that. Tailor your response to what will this degree do for you and what is your plan after graduation around you and the company.
I want to believe a company will not sponsor you except there's a plan to return to keep working there after graduation.

All the best.

[quote author=ifedayosol post=100320978]Congratulations. You must come back after 3years as you've stated ooooo grin grin grin.

Quick question please.
Is your husband a PhD student?
What's the month interval between when he left and when you applied for F2?

Yes my husband is a PhD student on scholarship.
It's almost two years he travelled that I applied. I hope that answers your questions @ ifedayosol

Say you don’t have a sibling or family members in the US. All your ties are in Nigeria. Since you don’t know if your parents would be back before your interview, just fill ‘no’. Because if you fill yes that your parents are in the US this moment, and they returned before your interview, you will then tell the VO no, your reply won’t correlate with what you filled in your DS form. Just say you don’t have anyone in the US.

Francangel:
Good afternoon friends, I am literally confused on what to do.

My story goes thus:

My parents are currently in the USA on a B1/B2 visa and I am filling my DS 160 for my F1 visa interview which will take place in June. My parents are likely to be back before my interview, so I do not know if I should bother with filling in that section that my parents are in the US since they would be in Nigeria at that time of my interview.

Also, I was denied visa on January 06, 2021 and during this period, my brother got married to a US citizen in Nigeria and they were still in Nigeria when I filled my DS160, applied for visa and went for my interview. Now, he is currently in the US with his wife, I automatically now have a sibling in the US. How do I present this to the consular officer? Should I bother filling in my form that I have a sibling there or just leave it that I do not, so that it would correspond to what I filled previously in January?

I hopefully look forward to your opinions.

I saw an opened graduate assistantship position, so I sent in my application (resume and just few lines of text in the body of the mail).
Then I got a response from the director of the unit where the position is opened asking for my intended course of study.
My intended course of study is among the eligible programs list.
Sharparly I sent it to her and she responded by acknowledging the receipt of the update.

Family, should I start dancing grin

Please I started a conversation program in a university here in Nigeria to get my BSC because I went to a polytechnic and I just found out from a post here that I can actually get admitted into a university in USA for my masters with my HND certificate.
So my question is please which of the universities in USA is more suitable for masters with an HND certificate in Engineering.
Also do I have to evaluate my OND and HND result with WES or just my HND.
Thanks in advance
