Good evenning all.

I have been having this thought of quitting my job to learn driving in order to pick up an UBER or BOLT job but the fear of getting a car on hire purchase is always coming as an hindrance.

I am a family man whose salary of just #85,000 is not even enough to cater for the family .Before the salary even comes in, there are always debts that have been incurred.

Most times,I dont even get up to #20,000 as a result of debts and seriously I am fed up. Infact , I think of suicide sometimes because i am so depressed right now. I have rent of #140,000 hanging on my neck too.

Please will it be wise to quit to learn driving for purpose of commercial driving job?

First, remove suicide out of the equation; it will not solve anything rather it'll compound issues. If you can continue your current job and learn the driving alongside, it'll be better. Be strong, the best is around the corner.

If you quit now, what will your children feed on...or haven't you given that thought...? My advice is you endure with your current job and start saving to become a driver/Uber driver. You can do this by doing contribution(àdàshi) with trustworthy friends who have the same plans like you.

You are earning 85k and you are thinking of suicide? Some people are earning 50k monthly with lots of mouth to feed and they are doing well, maybe you should cut shot your expenses.
Dont live more than you earn, subsidize things to balance yourself.

@op, I don't really kwn the nature of your job, if it eats up into your weekends,or you don't really have some spare time on the job coz you never explained it to us.
Try to learn the driving alone side your job especially on weekends.
Then talk with your partner abt your plans, if she's working, for the now let her still share on some of your responsibilities.
Then approach some family members & friends or Micro creditors for the car hire purchase.
suicide is not an option & can never be a solution but pains to your immediate & extended family & friends.

you said u are a family man...and u are still talking about suicide...that is so selfish of u...what is wrong with Nigerians and suicide this days. ...the best thing is for you to sort out your responsibility instead of looking for an easy way out...na only coward seeks for that and am sure u are not. stand by your family no matter what...if na bolt be the solution do am..if bolt no work submit CV...if CV no work learn work. if that one no work do something, anything ...don't just quit

A job that has opening and closing time, paying you 85k for me is OK

Uber doesn't have closing time if you want to use it for survival and there's no guarantee that, after paying your debts, hire purchase pay, car maintenance etc, you will get up to 100k at the end of the month

Why not combine it and learn the ropes before making the switch.
Don't look at how much Uber is charging for a ride, there's more to it

They say "a bird at hand is worth more than millions in the bush"..

In my own humble opinion.. I'd suggest you don't quit the job but rather add the Uber thing as an additional income.. you can learn how to drive during your free time especially weekends

Then you can acquire a car and use it for Uber during weekends and at times when you are free

Don't put all your eggs in a basket...

Don't raise your expectations too high....

Who said Uber drivers don't have financial challenges?

And if you finally decide to go the path of driving...

Don't drink and drive....

Might not make much sense now... But you'll understand later...

Quit, but know that the road of business is hard.

Before the business pays off, you will go through a cash crunch, unless you have savings already. That's something you should think about.

The good news about business is that depending on what you're doing, you can get that 85k in a week or less.

Lol
In this Buhari's era?
Remove suicide from your mind.

And is your wife working? Or at least earning something to support?
If not, you can keep your job and start up a small business for her.

Mnhh... Your own self better.

Meanwhile, what is it with all these emotional people?

They will destroy the world oh...

No stability, no clear reasoning, and yet they dominate the root of growth (you can never see an highly emotional personality hold power for long, they are mostly at the base of the social food chain)

But they are killing us with some sense of logic.

...it's sad that they even find it difficult to understand the damage they are doing.

Before you quit that job, make sure you are good in driving and there is a standby car.
So as not to jump from frying pan to fire

How can you be a family man with 85k as salary?

Your wife must be an angel. You better adore her!

The only time you should quit a job is when you have found a better offer. Make out time to learn driving, do not quit your job!

Just try to be prudent in your spending. What if you buy a car and the car is stolen? That means you'll be paying for a vehicle you no longer have. Some people are living on 50k per month. 85k should be okay if you cut your coat according to your size

Marriage and having kids should have been far from your mind but now it's too late.. investments and savings have become almost impossible since u spend most of your income or even more which leads to debt

Do not leave your job until u find a better source of income
