Newswire Retracts Story About Terrorist Watchlist. Pantami Reacts. by naptu2: 1:43pm On Apr 12, 2021
A story went viral this morning and in it some people claimed that the minister of communication, Dr Isa Ali Pantami had been placed on a terrorist watchlist by the US. See previous thread here: https://www.nairaland.com/6502214/us-places-isa-pantami-terror

To justify their claims some people posted an old video of Sheikh Pantami with Mohammed Yusuf, the founder of Boko Haram. However, the video did not say what they claimed it said. I have posted the video on Nairaland years ago and I know its background.

Mohammed Yusuf had his own teachings about Islam which he was propagating. Sheikh Pantami is an Islamic scholar and he believed that Mohammed Yusuf's teachings were wrong so he challenged him to a debate. The video that was being circulated was a video of that debate.

News Wire, an online medium that published the story this morning, has now published a retraction and Dr Pantami has reacted to their tweet.

RETRACTION: Publication of Daily Independent Story alleging Nigeria's Minister of Communications, Sheikh Isa Pantami placed on Terror watch-list for alleged ties with Boko Haram Leader

Isa Ali Pantami, PhD @DrIsaPantami

1) @NewsWireNGR your RETRACTION through your independent investigation, has been noted. However, investigative journalism requires the investigation before publishing, not after. Further, major publishers will meet my lawyers in the court on this defamation of character.

2) My lectures against the doctrines and all other evil people have been available for over 15 years, including debates that endangered my life against many criminals in Nigeria. If you can't understand Hausa, get an objective Hausa speaker to translate for you objectively.

3) On the issue of NIN-SIM Verification to fight insecurity, there is no going back. Our priority as GOVERNMENT based on the provision of our constitution 1999 (as amended) Section 14(2)b is SECURITY, not just economy. For sure, no going back at all. Let's the sponsors continue

Unlike Mohammed Yusuf, Abubakar Shekau has no time for debates and he has repeatedly threatened to kill Pantami.

@OP.

You're a respected poster here with the profile of an upright individual who is always a devotee of facts above sentiments and parochial pontifications. Are you now the mouthpiece of Pantami or why this post?

He had a famous debate with Mohammed Yusuf (the founder of Boko Haram) a long time again. Many believe that he defeated Yusuf.

Mohammed Yusuf believed that Western education and working for the government were prohibited in Islam, while Isa Pantami believed that Mohammed Yusuf was wrong.

(Mohammed Yusuf was killed in 2009).

Naptu, Oga patapata, the boss of all bosses! grin

I just listened to the whole conversation.

Pantami is arguing the fact that there is separation between living (mater) and worshipping (spirit), and that Sharia is a code for living in uprightness, so that while having an occupation earning a living one is guided by the principles of do's and dont's of Sharia as a moral code for interpersonal interactions. That Sharia does not forbid work...and working is not at cross-purpose with belief in Sharia.

Yusuf on the other hand is of the view that Pantami's view introduces an involuntary admission that the divine message is incomplete, thus man defines for God how life should be conducted...rather than submitting himself to the creeds given to him as his obligation. He opined that mater and spirit are inseparable. That working is a distraction away from divine service.

Pantami was breaking down the intent behind why we address a court judge and say "My Lord".

I need to spend time to focus deeply in their exchange. I wish I could post the interpretation of the debate here in English...but Ishilove has said I must go to sleep. Its almost daybreak nau!. grin

Boss, I need a favor o. My beautiful mother, Miriam Makeba's birthday is March 4th. Can you please dig up and do your thing....help me celebrate Mama Africa! grin

Stop wasting your time. I always post news articles and I will always post news articles and I don't give a damn whether you like it or not. You have never asked me if I'm the mouthpiece of all the other people in the news articles that I have posted in the past ten years and the only reason you are asking me now is because of your bias.

I will always post whatever I want and you can never decide for me what I will post.

By the way, I couldn't give a damn about your so called respect.

This is my last response to you

It's Either they threatened them with the el-zak zaky treatment or they made a big wire to newswire to retract the story.

Did US put you in watch list, yes or no?

If I were Pantami, I I will leave these news medium aside and attack the US listing directly. Because as things stand now, the Newspaper only retracted the link to Yusuf, they didn't retract the story of Pantami on the US watch list.
