I believe most of these tribes are just clans, sections, towns or dialects of a larger ethnic group.

With proper ethnic grouping, the tribes in Kaduna may not be up to 10.

You don't know what you are talking about

These guys all have a very distinct language, with no close words, distinct culture, distinct culinary, distinct religion (even though it's between Christianity, Islam and Traditional worship) etc.

Understand this,

A single language may be made up several dialects. Counting these dialects as different languages is the error that makes people to believe that Kaduna is made up of 20 languages and Nigeria made up of 250 languages.

Note that South west is 99% Yoruba and South East is 97% igbo. Are we to say that the remaining 4 zones have 248 languages?

How is SE 97% igbo?? Oga it is 100%
Which other language is spoken in SE other than igbo?

Same igbo but just different dialect.

Re: How many languages are in your state? by ThatFairGuy1: 12:17pm On Apr 17, 2021
RedboneSmith:
1. Igbo (three macro-dialects of it)
2. Oza (a Bini dialect)
3. Olukwumi (a Yoruba dialect)
4. Igala (the Ebu dialect)
5. Itsekiri
6. Urhobo
7. Isoko
8. Ijaw

So, at least 8 languages are spoken in my state; but that number may even be higher depending on how one defines language and dialect.

(Some of the dialects of Urhobo and Isoko are sometimes ranked as different languages, e.g., Okpe and Erohwa, just as some of the dialects of Igbo are often ranked as different languages).
And you've failed without mentioning your State.

Just imagine the kind of opportunities and strength in multi cultures and languages? Yet, Nigeria can only bring out disunity. This issue is too painful. These leaders we have had since 1960 (our independence) are.... let me not finish my statement. It is well.

Language is one of Nigeria biggest problems. We are from the same country but we don’t understand each other.

I believe it will be better if it is one language for the entire country

If the language difference is not in dialect, then they are tribes.

Like the Yoruba is a tribe even though there are almost 20 dialects with varying degree of differences

No doubt that Nigerians speak different languages.
Each state has also have different tribes & language ,and some of these tribes occupies more than one state.
Well even in the North that speak different languages, but the most dominated language is the Hausa. Funny enough not all Northerns can speak the Hausa it's a fact.
On the South-West dominated by the Yoruba Language.
In the East it's Ibo.
Only in the South- South is not dominated by a particular language, because they have different tribes living among themselves.

Okay, better.

But just do one thing ehh, make extensive investigations to find out which n which of those languages are same.

Cuz many nigerians now refer to a significant change in dialect as a new language

Are u from Kaduna state? Why would you choose to believe what is not true. I am from Kaduna state and I am telling you that these are tribes, not clans, sections, towns or whatever you think.
Your use name here suggests you are among those who think all northerners are Hausa's and Fulani's. The north has far more tribes than the south if you don't know.

Utese and Egbeta share boundaries but they don't understand each other. Their two languages are different from Benin
