Thanks for the reference. I know for sure Itsekiri is of Yoruba ancestry. Their language leads credence to that;
Yes, both language and ethnicity.

but their ruling family is another kettle of fish. Ogie is a bini word. Oba of Benin has always played roles in itsekiri royal house. History has it that one of Bini princes became the first Olu. I wouldn't mind more education if you have more information as regards this
Yes I already replied you on this part. ‘Ogie’ is an Edoid word.

But the Itsekiri ruling house admits that the royalty who rules as Olu is ab-initio of Ile-Ife origin.

Yes, there was a pause (so to speak) at Benin where some Edo acculturation took place — hence a word like ‘Ogiame’.

But the royal root according to the Olu’s admission is ultimately of Ile-Ife origin.

So, all Itsekiris (both the general populace and the ruling house) all admit to be Yoruba.

The Itsekiris (since the earliest known centuries till date) say they are Yorubas.

Oba of Benin thinks otherwise in a 21st century YouTube video

The dumb bald-headed Bini lad above me blindly insists that:
Oba of Benin’s feelings must prevail above the Itsekiris’s own knowledge of themselves.

Mental retardation is clearly a very cheap commodity in Benin kingdom.

You don't know anything...

The last Ijaw vs Itsekiri didn't take place during Abacha's regime. So, how could a dead Abacha intervened in the said conflict?

A lot of the boys who fought for the Itsekiris were recruited from riverine parts of Ondo State.

who was Nigeria’s Head of State between Nov 17 1993 to June 8, 1998?

I am taking about this period in question - don’t misinform people here

Ijaw and Itsekiri fight dates back since the era of Jesus Christ - I was not alive then so I can not vouch for what happened then. I left Warri in 1998 so I can’t say how many more fights Itsekiris had with the Urhobos after then - I know Chief James Ibori whose mother is an Itsekiri woman did 99% of the job to end that crisis finally when he became Governor between 1999-2007 and handed over to his maternal Cousin Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, an Itsekiri man who finally got everyone together to sheath their swords between 2007 - 2015

But I was in Warri between 1993 to 1997 and I saw with my eyes korokoro how the crisis happened and I didn’t see any yoruba fighter helping Itsekiris

haba liars full this forum sha, damn it

I dont know your agenda but one thing i know youre on a new brand of weed and you need to get use to it before you start making sense

First of all the oba stays neutral in edo politics and support anybody because anyone he support, wont change him from being the oba of benin

Ayiri is fighting for the edict to stand and not fighting for you think he ia fighting for so defiantly the oba if he is to give his support he would definitely give ayiri is support

you are the one high on trash and you are a kid

Oba Erediauwa - the father of this current Oba played politics in 1991 when he indirectly told his chiefs to tell Benin people to vote for Chief John Odigie - Oyegun of SDP against Mr. Lucky Igbinedion of NRC - I was in Benin and I voted in that election (Option A-4 open ballot system, aka see me I see you) and so many bs happened then including the murder of Oredo LG Chairman Mr. George Osa Idah. Even the Oba had to wear red and go to court to defend himself against the allegations that Ogbinedion put forward that the Oba cost his son the election- That was an open secret in Benin then that the Oba campaigned secretly against Igbinedion through his Chiefs.

In 1999, that same Oba Erediauwa was backing Mr Lucky Imasuen of APP against Lucky Igbinedion of PDP and that made Navy Captain Anthony Ibe Onyearugbulem - the then Edo State Sole administrator to confront the Oba and told him to behave himself or else - most of us know how that ended, when he removed the Oba as Chairman of Edo State Traditional Council because he said the Oba was partisan.

Then his son Oba Ewuare was pulling that same stunt for Ize Iyamu - in 2020

Do you know what it means for the Oba to say his family didn’t like Obaseki because the role his great grand father played in the 1897 Benin Massacre and that Dangote was begging him to accept Obaseki’s candidacy in 2016 and that Phillip Shaibu is no longer his son bla bla bla and that Oshomole is a good man and he has been helping him since he was a Prince bla bla bla

if you can not read in between the lines and his body language and know he was campaigning against Obaseki and you expected him to say EDO PEOPLE VOTE FOR IZE IYAMU - then you are a BIG g Oa t

You are right about the things you said about Oba Erediauwa. But Oba Ewuare was right, he did not know Obaseki and that was the truth.

Obaseki has not handled some personal issues which the Palace has given to him well because of certain factors. The Oba is not really happy about it. The Oba has his interests also.

Nevertheless people voted Obaseki to spite Oshiomole badly. The palace understood this that's why they couldn't come out for Ize iyamu. The Palace had to thread carefully and people knew the Oba had ties with Captain, but you see one thing, everyone ignored the palace politics and acted like it did not exist.

They separated the Oba from it and dealt with Cap. OSA and Oshiomole.

Actually, current "yoruba" is purely artificial, there is no similar culture.
The true yoruba are the people of oyo Kingdom.

Which Oyo kingdom you keep repeating sef? Oyo kingdom is relatively a very young kingdom compare to Ife and Ogiso dynasties. It was founded by Oranmiyan after he left Ibini. And at its height it included Egbas Ibadans etc

But the Bini ruling house is of Ife ancestry.

1) actually oyo Kingdom is way older than Ife village.
2) oranmiyan is a fictional character like superman or Spiderman.
3) ogiso is a fairytale like father Christmas.
4) all you think you know about history are fables for children.

every thing you said is correct

the bold parts - the Oba is under Obaseki constitutionally and if he thinks otherwise- let him run for the office of Governor of Edo State, after all the then Ooni of Ife, Oba Adesoji Aderemi was a politician and Governor of all old western region in the the first republic. The Oba of Benin can not be playing politics and at the same time claim to be apolitical

the problem we have with political leadership is that most political office holders have watered down the prestige of their office that they do not even know these traditional rulers are under them

That’s why i respect Ganduje for cutting Former Emir Sanusi to size by dethroning him

I respect traditional authority but their role is simply ceremonial- they must never interfere with democratic outcomes for any reason whatsoever

Very ignorant people fill up this thread, in any society the ruling class are totally different from their subjects.
Because your royalties have affinities with another ethnic stock doesn't mean you lots are same stock.
Prince Philip that just died isn't of the same stock of the English people, he is Greek in origin but of royalty.
The kings and Queens of Europe are almost of the same bloodline than the people they rule over.
If the royal households of Itsekiri have established bonds with the Benin's from time immemorial or are Benin in origin that doesn't mean the entire Itsekiris are of Benin stock
The ruling house of Onitsha may trace ancestry to Benin or Igala, it doesn't mean they never met people in Onitsha at their arrival in Onitsha
Fact is, we should stop tracing our origin from the origin of the ruling families.

You are right

Well you are not Edo. To the average Edo man, after God it's the Oba of Benin. All monarchs are political. It only depends to which degree does the throne go about it. I repeat all monarchs, even the Papacy in Rome was very political.

The issue I talked about has nothing to do with politics. It's something I can't share with you. So no governor can really do the sanusi stuff to the Oba of Benin. Not now, maybe 100 years from now.

True, Monarchs should not influence electoral processes. Very true, but they will always do to a lesser degree

To me, Obaseki is under the Oba of Benin.
Forget about the constitution for now...

For argument sake let's agree that only Oronmiyan mother is Yoruba. And leave the Odùduwà part for other time. Then Eweka too has Yoruba blood then thru his father Oranmiyan. Let call those from Eweka with Yoruba blood via their ancestral mother Binis and the pure Edo people as Edos.

And since only those Binis can become Oba, then the Bini monarchy is part Yoruba then.

And if those are the same people that instituted Warri throne, it also is part Yoruba. I hope u get my point.
