Its related to Igbo language small sha
When someone is speaking Igbo..i understand 70% of what the person is saying.

So its safe to say that Ndokwa and Ukwani are belongs to the larger ethnic group called Igbo..

Despite u guys understanding dier language, Most still claim dat they shouldn't b called Igbos, particularly the Ikas(Agbor pple) n Ndokwa(Kwale n Ukwuani pple)..

Major Gen Leo Irabor of Ika origin says he is NOT an Igbo man..

Dorathy of Big Brother Naija Show is from Ika when she spoke Igbo in one of their Thursday nite presentation, Hell was let loose by Ikas in Nigeria n Diaspora on Twitter, saying Ika is not Igbo!!

It is only d Asaba, Ibuza n Issele-ukwu pple dat don't have Qualms being referred to as Igbos...

So u Igbos cannot be Forcing Dem..Just like Hausa forcing d kaduna tribes d OP mentioned to identify demselves as Hausa..

Is it Right?? undecided

Nobody is forcing anybody. They can claim not to be igbo but what they speak is Igbo. You mustn't be Igbo to speak Igbo.

When I was still watching NTA Asaba those days, I no dey see Ika, Ukwuani or whatever in their local news translation just Igbo, Urhobo, Isoko, Ijaw and Istekiri. The state government doesn't even recognize them as a distinct language so rest.

The bolded is only partly correct. The Portuguese called it Beny by 1473. By 1553 when the British came they called it Benin. Actually it was coastal subjects in Delta who told the Portuguese that the overload/King of Ubini was in the interior. By the 1470s, the former tentative name Ubini had been replaced by Edo decades earlier. It was renamed Edo in 1440 by Oba Ewuare I to honour Edo, a brave executed servant who had saved his life as a prince because the tussle for the crown had turned deadly. Fact is Ubini or Ile-Ubini was never really accepted by Benin people as a name. It was a name outsiders called Igodomigodo.
Today, Urhobo call Benin Aka, Igbo call it Idu, etc. Although both have known good historical reasons to refer to Benin as Aka and Idu but Benin/Edo people do not call themselves such. Yoruba even call it Ado.

Idu was the founder of Edo/Benin nation. Igodomigodo was the real first name Edo/Benin called themselves. The Second self-given name (by Oba Ewuare I) was Edo. Ubini/Beny/Benin or whatever variations was NOT given to Igodo/Edo people by themselves and thus never used in Edo Language. There is no Ovbie Benin or Ovbie Bini. It is Ovbiedo. It was previously Ovbie Igodo. Since Benin became known worldwide as an Empire, for easy recognition sake, Benin is preferred, not Bini. None of the two is indigenous to Edo people anyway.

I hope this clarifies it better.
Splendid analysis!

I stayed in Asaba for 7months n d peeps re Aniocha Oshimili n from I understand from the Guys I stayed with, we have 3 Igbo-related tribes in Delta State.......

Ndokwa (Kwale, Ashaka, Ogume areas, sb just told me Umutu n Obiaruku are part of it..)

Ika (Agbor, Igbodo, Umunede, Abavo,etc..)

While Anioma or Enuani (Idumudje-ugboko/uno, Issele-ukwu, Ogwuash-uwku, Asaba, Illah, Ibuza)

Ur town/village should be amongst d last group..

I am grouping Dem like dis 4 proper understanding of readers..

Anioma is an acronym for
1. Aniocha
2. Ndokwa(Ukwani is part of the old Ndokwa)
3. Ika
4. Oshimili
OMA was added to make it sound meaningful in Igbo language.. What this means is that Anioma is not a tribe, language or dialect.

What most people have in mind when they speak of Anioma is Aniocha/Oshimili..

BOOM!! Wat I have been saying since the beginning of dis thread..

Am a Deltan but some persons commenting abt dis issue are not..

Super Eagles Ex Captain Sunday Oliseh(dat name is likely Ukwuani/Kwale) Boldly stated recently dat He is NOT Igbo n does not being addressed as Delta Igbo!!

Dorathy of BBNaija calls herself Delta Igbo n Ikas were very Angry@her!!..
.

As I have said earlier, D Ndokwas/Ikas have stuck to dier guns that they re NOT Igbo n don't even like being cald Delta Igbo!!

It is Aniocha Oshimili pple (Asaba, Issele-ukwu) that doesn't mind.(because of dier closeness to Onitsha..)

So let's end d arguments..D tribes are Igbo-related or Igbo descendants but have Carved a Niche for demselves hence u hear titles such as Dein of Agbor...

U can't even differentiate it when someone is speaking aniocha and Igbo language's
Sunday Oliseh is from Ebedei in ukwuani LGA.

To get it well for you, people from Ukwuani LGA are divided on the Igbo issues (Maybe 40:60) but people from Ndokwa East and West (who also speak like people in Ukwuani LGA) would tell you they are Igbo... Nwayiogwashi, the foremost and most respected nairalander from that region will break your head if you tell her she is not Igbo... but people from Ukwuani LGA differ on this.. But they are all called NDOKWA because that is the name of the old administrative district or LGA where these 3 LGAs are carved from.

Yeah, you are right no controversies in Enuani at all...

All the controversies arose after the civil war, It is even recently that Igbos in Cross-Rivers, Benue and Kogi state are coming out to be counted as part of the Igbo nation before they were so under the radar that they seem almost non-existent.

However, all these do not matter in this case since we are talking about language. They all speak Igbo dialect, which is the technical linguistic classification.. Igbo is the language, however, politically or ethnically they can choose to be distinct.

1. Igbo (three macro-dialects of it)
2. Oza (a Bini dialect)
3. Olukwumi (a Yoruba dialect)
4. Igala (the Ebu dialect)
5. Itsekiri
6. Urhobo
7. Isoko
8. Ijaw

So, at least 8 languages are spoken in my state; but that number may even be higher depending on how one defines language and dialect.

(Some of the dialects of Urhobo and Isoko are sometimes ranked as different languages, e.g., Okpe and Erohwa, just as some of the dialects of Igbo are often ranked as different languages).

What about Pidgin English??....
as for Urhobo, there are about 17 different dialects alone in delta State. There are others right here in Bayelsa and also in Edo state...

Only in the South- South is not dominated by a particular language, because they have different tribes living among themselves.

So funny are we talk about the south south and not mention Pidgin English.

The language of ukpe is Ekue. Akoko is a very linguistically diverse area.
