Your analysis is spot on! Seyi Shay should be removed from that show by her unreasonable statements and insults to these young artist featuring in the show.

I have never seen someone so uncouth like her. She reeks of bad mouth languages to these youngsters calling them unprintable and disgusting names at will. As for that Asika, he is not a man.., his conclusions are always halfway, possibly looking out to Shay for approval. Nonsense and senseless moderators! Even that other guy called ?? He is even worse

[s]The above mentioned music reality show currently running on DSTV and GOTV platforms may likely be the "wackiest" (for want of words) music reality show in recent times going by the quality of opinions thus far by the jury, made up of a 3man panel of Obi Asika; a Record Label Exec, Seyi Shay; a perpetual upcoming artiste going by the unpopularity of most, if not all her songs and DJ Sose; who at best is skillful at selecting songs that'll mostly appeal to club audiences.

One would have thought the record label executive in the person of Asika, who ordinarily should have been exposed to artistes of various kinds, will as a father figure, be in full control of the selection process, by way of influencing the opinions of the others even though the antecedents of past judges on the show clearly sets a pace for divergence in opinions that in the end, engenders a robust decision for or against the candidates. This is terribly in deficit this time on the show, as as much as a snarl from the perpetual upcoming artiste is enough influence of the opinions of two supposedly mature and independently minded men. Sose even managed to take his obvious lack of knowledge of music and consequently, a lack of sound judgement to annoying levels by always concurring to whatever Seyi Shay breathes, despite his body language telling otherwise.

All of the above is obvious in the audition of the young music producer, whose image you'll find attached to this post. I can bet that IK, the show host was shell shocked that the young man had to be turned down for no reasonable point, except for displaying his musical dexterity. If that's a crime, then pray tell me what Idols is all about?

I was part of the very first Idol show in Nigeria that produced the likes of Timi Dakolo and Omawunmi and what I can clearly remember is that singing foreign songs or even displaying your vocal dexterity wasn't a crime. If it was compulsory for candidates to do local pangolo songs for the show to be seen as "Nigerian Idol", like Miss Shay foolishly posits, then I dare the show organisers to switch the nomenclature to "Naija Oosa/Ojuju etc" and compel the judges to speak Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.

Besides, in the first Idol show in Nigeria, the jury made up of seasoned music industry legend like Dede Mabiaku, Radio Joc; Dan Foster and a Ghanian lady popularly referred to as "It's not werking for me" had their independent opinions of the candidates even though one out of the trio always played the devil's advocate.

Question now is; who the hell is the devil's advocate that'll ensure a robust decision making process in the ongoing Idol show, when from all we see, all trio are sleeping with their heads in the same direction??

Reason the current panel needs to be disbanded, asides the joke Seyi Shay has made of the show by unprofessionally making mockery of young chaps she is meant to encourage, thereby wreaking psychological damages that may be indelible in the lives of the up and coming generation.

PS: I don't know the guy being auditioned in the attached pictures as I am speaking for countless others that are in my opinion, obviously far ahead of the judges musically, but were turned down.[/s]

Seyi is only throwing her frustrations on people she can afford to do it to which are mostly the contestants.

Specifically, she is causing damage to some contestants emotions in as much her answers would be No, she should learn to judge without hurting or discouraging them. She should try and watch AGT.

Wanted to put up a you tube link but can't even upload at the moment cos of the app requesting an update that's simply not going through on the Play Store. Will see if I can get that guy's audition link from their site.

I like your writeup, like you i also think all the other two are influenced by sheyi shay. Where you got it wrong is posting the picture above. I listened to the guys audition but i was not impressed by his performance.

I said it here weeks ago...

That's why The Voice is my preferred watch. All the judges are vocal veterans especially Waje and Darey...

Apart from Obi Asika, the other 2 morons have got to go! They should replace them with individuals with true musical and vocal experience.

I know they won't do this cos it's a fvcking low budget nonsense show!

DJ sose has no business being a judge there.
Did you guys noticed how shayi Shay treated that igbo guy called chinedu?

Those judges should be disband joor.they lacked xposure and professionalism.

Suddenly, the argument is now moving in the "right"direction.

Seyi shay treated an igbo guy called Chinedu :somehow"

The 16 year old girl from Owerri that got a good comment from her is not mentioned.
The 17 year old girl(yoruba) from Ilorin that was rejected is not mentioned.
The Year 4 pharmacy student that is yoruba but was rejected is not mentioned.

Soon, people with the same mentality like you will come to inform you that DJ sose's mother is Yoruba.

Seyi Shay should at least be lenient with her judgement. If person no sabi sing, encourage am to improve, and tell them you'll get back to them, not telling them you can never make it.

Obi Asika, I understand, No Music talent or even experience. He is just there cos he has bank rolled artists from Ikechukwu and co. Him no suppose sit him a** for that place. ( My opinion too).

DJ Sose with his trade mark tatoo wey Never even make am compete with DJ Cuppy too was just judging on how the song sweet am and not really the finesse applied by the candidates. Him too is not suppose to be there! Gbam!!!

But you see SEYI SHAY!, after TIWA Savage, That babe is the second best Nigeria female sensation. Ahbeg no touch her when it comes to Music skills, voice and finesse. sheyi shay is just outta this world. started following her vibes from IRAWO ( both with the remix), to YOLO, Weekend Vibes with Sarkodie will Even scatter your Dada.

Bros! I see reasons with your critiques on the judges, But leave sheyi shay outta your personal opinions. I might not be with her in so many things, But as for the music aspect, that Babe can sing!!!!!

I had earlier tweeted that Sheyi Shay and the rest be disbanded. Sheyi Shay sees herself as the mouthpiece of the other judges. Very biased and tribalistic. Even throwing tantrums on other tribes that's not yoruba. The lady us just too fool of herself. Obi is just a there like juju always concurring to whatever the goddess says. This is truly by far the poorest selection of judges on any musical show ever in Nigeria.

I follow the show and as well as Voice Nigeria..... I can say most times on Naija idol, final decision are based on body language of DJ sosay, then Sheyi shay, Obi is most time not decisive.

You are right with most of your points, many people have complained about this especially on twitter.

Mistakes happen, they can't all be perfect! Some times they make a mistake of not selecting people with good voice, while going for some will worse performance.

I can remember a 16 year old girl that wasn't picked 2 weeks ago, still painful till today.... Sheyi shay outrance is the only terrible thing, we shouldn't be too emotional about this.

Unfortunately, this show has been recorded and they probably can't make amend on the correction part.

Make we manage am like that....

Compare it to the Jury of Voice Nigeria, these are guys that know music, top guys in the industry.

I remember that particular girl. I was shocked she didn't make it, she probably has the best voice I've ever heard on that show. If I remember correctly, IK disagreed with the judges. Everytime I remember, that girls case still pains me.

I can only hope she doesn't let the opinion of those clueless judges discourage her

Mind you Nigerian idols is what I mostly practically watch each day all the time on DStv

Shey shey is doing a good job , so are the others.

Stop hating because u were not selected

I agree with you totally.
The major problem with Nigerians is that where they do not even have the basic, elementary knowledge of a particular issue or field, they start pontificating as if they know all.
Suddenly, experts have emerged on Nairaland.
If you follow the program well, you will see that some of the contestants were even saying that their friends and in some cases mothers told them they could sing. As if singing in a church choir or winning a local competition is all you need to be a winner.

I watched one episode, Asika was moved by the contensant voice, then after the performance, Sose asked him to speak first, the ode passed it to Sheyi, Sheyi shay in her blindness and deafness bashed the poor guy. What pissed me off more was I expected Asika to counter her, oga just agreed with her. Asika was obviously impressed. I think the show was built around Sheyi Shay. Asika is worse than others, oga is clueless

I've taken my time to watch the show and follow the trends on twitter. The fad is to bash Seyi Shay ! Even those not watching the show, also join in to bash! It's funny!
I've not seen any wrong done so far! The judges have gone through hundreds of contestants! They can't pick all of them! It's not a family reunion, it's a competition! Your best friend, brother or sister might be a good singer outside but in front of the judges, anxiety can mess their game up. Then you'll come to twitter, Facebook and nairaland and be saying person A can sing but was not chosen!
Give the judges a slack biko!

For season one, Yinka Davies, Audu Maikori and Jeffrey Daniel were selected to be the judges. In season two, Maikori was replaced with Charly Boy as a judge. In season three, Femi Kuti replaced Charly. In season four, Darey, Nneka, and Dede Mabiaku were selected as judges. In season five, Yinka Davies replaced Nneka. In season six, Obi Asika, Seyi Shay and DJ Sose were selected to be the judges

I sincerely don't appreciate Sheyi Shay's domineering influence over the other two judges. It makes those guys look like two adult simps !

Agreed, they made some errors in their judgement or assessment of some of the contestants but I don't think that's enough to write them (the jury) off completely or seek their replacement.

Let them finish what they started !
