I am learning from your response.

When I mentioned this keeping to the commandments and being "holy", a pastor attacked me that I'm being self-righteous and directed me to the book of Job.

Job was perfect in his reverence for God, to the point where he was atoning for the sins of his children in their absence. He thought he was too perfect and righteous and that was his sin, I was told.

The pastor made me understand that my acts of being perfect were filthy rags that didn't count for anything. And told me to look at the latter chapters of Job in which he realized that despite his self-righteousness he suffered more than others, and that it was still not good enough until he acknowledged that God was always going to be God.

It shocked me then. I even believed it. In retrospect, it angered me that nothing we do will ever be good enough or perfect enough for God. For some months afterwards, I did not even bother with trying to be a Christian because it didn't make sense, if God was calling me to Holiness, why couldn't I do things that He would find holy from my faith based on the Word? What was the basis of godly living, then?

I'm telling my experience because it may be what someone else has gone through and they may need some answers.

I still believe that God wants us to be perfect, no matter what. Otherwise there's no basis for living as a Christian. That is why I asked if it is sanctification or perfection.

I feel the perfection would come as a result of sanctification, to be in resonance with the Spirit of God to the point where you are counted as one with Him.

Open to further lessons on this.

God bless.

It's better you hold on to your believe.
There are certain reasons the account of Job can be used for certain preaching. But to us who have been baptised into Christ Jesus then we ought to have that image of Him both inside and outside. We are birthed in the image of Christ Jesus and Him in God the Father.

It's better one takes time to study and meditate on the Epistles of Apostle Paul.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll read there to know.

What if it is righteousness from obedience to what is in the Bible?
That is All you need! As I Said All True And Genuine Righteousness ONLY and ALL Come From The Word of The Lord! There is None Other!

BRATISLAVA:
This is like saying you aren't born again, because you cannot save yourself and didn't create the standards of being saved, though it is written in the Bible and you obeyed it to repentance. Yet you cannot say you are born again, because you would be usurping the power to give forgiveness.
On this issue, I am saying DO ALL THE WORDS OF THE LORD And Wait for the Judgement of your Works exactly as Proverbs Warns

"Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips."

You can not and shall not be the Judge in your own Cause, Another Shall and Must Judge Thee!

You and the pastor are wrong, then.

Having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof.

I would advise that you be careful though because those are the same epistles that are being used to justify these antichrist' ideas of grace.

Hence I suggest that just in case, you're first grounded on the teachings of Jesus, so you're better prepared for that.

Sorry to interrupt again, but I just deemed it needful to say this now.

Thanks and God bless.

I have read Paul before, but do not mind doing so again.

I believe strongly in sanctification, and not grace to sin. Grace to do greater works in Christ, not grace to fall and keep falling and tempting God.

Thanks for your input. I am grateful.

Don't let anyone deceive you. Although we are saved by grace and not by our own effort, we still have a part to play. We still have to carry our cross and follow Jesus. We still have to:

strive
struggle
put in every effort
press on and
try to live a holy and righteous life.
.
Hebrews 12:4: "In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood."
.
Ephesians 4:3,: "Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace."
.
Philippians 3:12: "Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own."
.
2 Peter 3:14, NLT: "And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight."
.
Lk 13:24 “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
.
2 Timothy 2:21: Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
.
Unfortunately and so unfortunately, some 'Christians' want Jesus to carry their cross for them while they relax and enjoy life.

I think that's where the "self-righteousness" people are from. I can't understand why a Christian can't be righteous consciously, instead acting like they don't know what righteousness is.

Besides, the guy who was arguing it cannot even say if he is born again or not, so I know that it is a false doctrine.

But what exactly is righteousness? undecided

Jesus Christ said, "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God(Holiness), and His Righteousness ...", so it is important to know Righteousness apart from Holiness. undecided

Hmm. U don't know that guy oo. I've had a lengthy argument with him in the past. And I found out that he doesn't condemn immodest dresses, dirty songs and jokes. He regard every pastor as swindlers that don't understand the word of Christ. He believe mainly in Mathew, mark, Luke and john.

That's what only the message of grace causes. When some Christians only read one side of their Bibles, because they don't like what the rest of it contains.

Message of grace as in eternal life? undecided

When someone comes to gossip about another, only take what is said as just that..what is said. undecided

I don't read one side of the Bible... I read all of the bible including everything extrabiblical I can lay my hands on.
There is a reason to research all scripture, and since all knowledge(good and evil alike) belongs to God, there is nothing to loose. So you see how in error the one who you listened to there is? undecided

He claims I only believe mainly in what is written in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Well. As one who is a follower of Jesus Christ, and whose life is modeled after the teachings of Jesus Christ, where else in the bible do you fine the very New Covenant Law as given us by Jesus Christ? undecided

I'm not gossiping you, it's right here in the open where you are free to make your own input. The benefit of any discussion here, is that it will be open for future readers.

You can't only live by a few books of the Bible, it has to be in its entirety. And that may be where Christians tend to disagree, when some of them put certain messages above others whereas all are equally important.

Eg. The prosperity crew etc who focus on only one aspect, neglecting the rest. You can see how it isn't helpful.

Anyway, it is interesting to note that you're not the atheist you appeared to be.

Your doctrine differs.

Actually, Jesus Christ Himself told you that you do not live by bread alone but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God. And who comes from the mouth of God? undecided

Jesus Christ, the Word of God, the New Covenant Law of God in the Kingdom of God. He is the Law that you are called to put your Trust in and to obey.... the doctrines and traditions of men are lies compared to His Word. undecided

The problem with the prosperity crew, holiness gang, grace gospel folks etc. Is not really that they focus on parts of the Gospel... no. Instead, it is that they all deny the place to Jesus Christ and His teachings in all their efforts. That is the problem. undecided

The prosperity gang, the grace gang, you name every denomination out there.. they pick apart and only choose those portions that suit their agenda and ideas from the very Gospel of the Kingdom of God which we are all called to follow and obey. They cannot abide the teachings and commandments for what it is and represents. undecided

About my doctrine, it does not differ from what is presented right there in the very teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, again, is the one who we are told is the only way so it would make no sense for me to follow the Old Covenant way. Jesus Christ is the Truth of God so it would make no sense for me to seek out the opinions of me over the Word of God Himself in all things. Jesus Christ is the Life we have in the Kingdom of God and so His Law is the standard by which we are to live here in the world if we are to attain any of the goals He has placed before us. undecided

My apologies to the sheep of Christ (the righteous), not the goats oh (workers of iniquity). Matthew 25:31-46

I couldn't post the update of my righteousness series yesterday because I was unjustly banned for righteousness sake. I was angry but God told me it was normal, so instead I would rejoice and be glad because:

Matthew 5:10-12 (KJV)

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for their's is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

So I'm not the first neither would I be the last, so the work of the Kingdom of God must continue regardless.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

God bless.

Yes indeed, in practice we must live righteously by GOD's grace -

"For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 5:20

Yet, we should always remember that the only righteousness that qualifies us to dwell with GOD is His righteousness with which He clothes His own!

"Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit." - Psalm 32:1-2

"In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." - Jeremiah 23:6 (Also Jeremiah 33:16).
