Plumptre is a popular name in Lagos. There's Subomi Plumptre, Ade Plumptre and so on and so forth. I haven't yet been able to figure out if it's a Popo Aguda or Saro name.

Indeed, Ashleigh does not look mixed race..

But it seems a lot of people do not understand her condition - Her father is mixed race or half caste(with one Nigerian and one British parent), while her mum is a pure white woman, making Ashleigh 1/4 Nigerian and 3/4 British, also known as quadroon.

Of course she was hardly ever going to look mixed race like Leon Balogun et al.

*Pinnick delighted with Aisha Buhari Six Nation Women Football*

The president of the Nigeria Football Federation and Fifa Council member, Amaju Pinnick, has expressed his delight over Nigeria's hosting of the Aisha Buhari Six- Nation Football Tournament.

The six top African football playing nations already confirmed for the Invitational tournament scheduled for September 2021, include; host Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Mali, Morocco, and Ghana.

According to the president of the NFF, Nigeria's First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has endorsed the championship, which is one of the programmes aimed at uplifting the girl/child in the continent.

The Six Nation Invitational is Amaju Pinnick's direct effect of being elected as FIFA COUNCIL member.

Lagos, which is now the new hub of football excellence in Nigeria, will host the 10-day event, with all its aquatic and tourism splendour.

These top five African women football nations that will join host Nigeria, have confirmed their participation in the tournament.

The tournament which is a direct effect of Amaju Pinnick's election into the FIFA Council as Africa's representative, would witness other activations to sensitise African women on the benefits of sports to national development and other issues affecting women in developing countries with direct reference to the place of the girl/child in our society.

The NFF president disclosed that, the Aisha Buhari Six Nation Women's Tournament would among other things be a festival of women football with some of the biggest names in world soccer expected to be in Nigeria to witness the games and also participate in some of the events lined-up to celebrate the girl child.

Apart from the display of soccer artistry on the pitch, there will be other activations to sensitise Africans on the benefits of sports to national development. It will address issues affecting women in developing countries with direct reference to the place of the girl/child in the African continent.

Historic First-Ever Match at Q2 Stadium Will Feature U.S. Women's National Team Vs. Nigeria on Wednesday, June 16th
May 6, 2021

The U.S. Women’s National Team match at Q2 Stadium will be the first-ever visit to Austin by a U.S. Soccer National Team; June 16 match is part of the 2021 U.S. Women’s National Team Summer Series; Three nights later, on Saturday, June 19, Austin FC will play its historic Major League Soccer home opener against the San Jose Earthquakes

Austin, Texas – Q2 Stadium, the state-of-the-art, 20,500-seat home of Austin FC, announced today that it will host the reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) in an exhibition match against Nigeria on Wednesday, June 16, at 8:00pm CDT, as part of the 2021 WNT Summer Series. The USWNT match versus Nigeria will be the first-ever match to be played at Q2 Stadium, the $260 million, privately-financed soccer stadium in Austin. The match, which will be nationally televised on ESPN2, marks the debut of U.S. Soccer’s senior team in the capital city as neither the USWNT nor U.S. Men’s National Team have previously staged a match in Austin.

“We are both thrilled and honored that the first-ever match at Q2 Stadium will feature the four-time FIFA World Champions,” commented Austin FC President, Andy Loughnane. “Hosting the USWNT at Q2 Stadium speaks to the world-class nature of our city, our facilities, and the popularity of the sport in our region.”

“We are extremely excited for U.S. Women’s National Team to play the first soccer match at Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium,” commented U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach, Vlatko Andonovski. “The development of Austin FC has been impressive and fun to watch, and the way the community has embraced the Club is inspiring. We can’t wait to play there and feel that energy.”

The USWNT Summer Series will also feature matches against Portugal and Jamaica on June 10 and 13, respectively, followed by the match at Q2 Stadium against Nigeria on June 16 (ESPN2). Three (3) nights later Saturday, June 19, Austin FC will play its historic MLS home opener against the San Jose Earthquakes at 8:00pm CDT.

The June 16 match against Nigeria at Q2 Stadium will be the final USWNT international game before U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Andonovski names the 18-player Olympic Team roster. The USA will also play two (2) Olympic Send-Off Matches in early July before leaving for Japan. At the Olympic Final Draw on April 21, the USA was placed into Group G where it will face Sweden (July 21 in Tokyo), New Zealand (July 24 in Saitama) and Australia (July 27 in Kashima) during group play.

The match against Nigeria at Q2 Stadium will also mark the first time the USA has ever faced the Super Falcons outside of a world championship. It will be just the third-ever exhibition match against an African country, with the previous two (2) coming against South Africa.

Ticket information for the June 16 match at Q2 Stadium will be released by U.S. Soccer in the coming weeks.

U.S. SOCCER TO HOST THE 2021 WNT SUMMER SERIES PRESENTED BY AT&T 5G FEATURING THE USA, PORTUGAL, JAMAICA AND NIGERIA

MAY 6 2021
FEDERATION NEWS

CHICAGO (May 6, 2021) – U.S. Soccer will host the 2021 WNT Summer Series Presented by AT&T 5G featuring the USA, Portugal, Jamaica and Nigeria from June 10-16, with matches to be played on June 10 and 13 at BBVA Stadium in Houston and on June 16 at the brand new Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas.

The USA’s three games of the Summer Series begin with a match against Portugal on June 10 in Houston (broadcast on FS1 begins at 7 p.m. CT with kick-off at 7:30 p.m. CT / 8:30 p.m. ET), followed by a meeting with Jamaica on June 13 (9 p.m. CT / 10 pm ET on FS1), also at BBVA Stadium, before traveling to Austin to face Nigeria on June 16 (8 p.m. CT / 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2).

The match in Austin at the home of Major League Soccer’s newest club, Austin FC, will be the first soccer game at the brand new, state-of-the-art, 20,500 seat Q2 Stadium. Three nights later on June 19, Austin FC will play its first MLS match at home.

The two dates in Houston will be doubleheaders, with Jamaica facing Nigeria on June 10 (4:30 p.m. CT / 5:30 p.m. ET) and Portugal playing Nigeria on June 13 (6 p.m. CT / 7 p.m. ET).

Ticket information for the two doubleheaders in Houston and stand-alone match in Austin will be released soon. For the opportunity to buy tickets before the general public, fans should consider becoming U.S. Soccer Insiders. Circle Insiders have first access to tickets, followed by VIP Insiders, Premium Insiders, and then Standard Insiders. Membership is free for Standard Insiders. Learn more here.

These matches will be the final international games before U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski names the 18-player Olympic Team. The USA will also play two Olympic Send-Off Matches in early July before leaving for Japan. At the Olympic Final Draw on April 21, the USA was drawn into Group G where it will face Sweden (July 21 in Tokyo), New Zealand (July 24 in Saitama) and Australia (July 27 in Kashima) during group play.

“In these COVID times, we’re grateful that U.S. Soccer has been able to organize a schedule of games for us to prepare for the Olympics and getting these three during the Summer Series against teams we don’t play very often will be important in helping us make the final decisions on the Olympic Team,” said U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “Choosing the Olympic Team has been a long process, with a big break in the middle, but we’ll take all the information from our trainings, the National Team games and club matches so we can make the best choices to give our team the best chance for success in Japan.”

U.S. Soccer previously staged the Tournament of Nations during this summer period in 2017 and 2018 and had planned to hold the tournament during non-Olympic and non-World Cup years. Due to FIFA changing the international match window in June from a three-match window to a two-match window starting in 2022, the competition will no longer be able to be held.

In addition, the June FIFA international match window for 2021 has already changed to a two-match opportunity for European teams, meaning that the format of the Summer Series will feature the USA and Nigeria playing three matches while Portugal and Jamaica will play two. No standings will be kept and all matches will be treated as friendlies.

Doesn't really matter here, it's just a friendly game which will help both teams... Let's hope Coach Randy Waldrum present a good Squad for us and doesn't do much of player's tryouts..He can possibly do that at the 6 Nations Tournament we're hosting in September where I would love to see most of the Home based player's he Scouted out at the recent super 6 tournament in Ijebu Ode!
