The Sunk Cost Fallacy

If you’ve ever let unworn clothes clutter your closet just because they were expensive, or followed through on plans you were dreading because you already bought tickets, you’re familiar with the sunk cost fallacy.

“The sunk cost effect is the general tendency for people to continue an endeavor, or continue consuming or pursuing an option, if they’ve invested time or money or some resource in it,” says Christopher Olivola, an assistant professor of marketing at Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business and the author of a 2018 paper on the topic published in the journal Psychological Science. “That effect becomes a fallacy if it’s pushing you to do things that are making you unhappy or worse off.”

Sunk cost fallacy can also be spotted amongst traders. Usually, novice traders will quickly cash out wins and let the losers run hoping for a change in market direction. As a trader you should have a strong idea before hand where stop loss should be, know the point beyond which your play was wrong.

In the last market crash, some people where more than 70% negative in some stocks(that was gut-wrenching o ), when they could have disposed at say negative 2% or 5% or 20% or 30% . Though most stocks have recovered, if disposed early on at say -30% and reentered later at a much lower price would guarantee a higher return.

I did last two weeks with Afriprud.They replied me last week my Transcorp shares is mandated to my account. Just fill your e-dividend mandate form on their website now. Since the registrars has close the book on the qualification date 15th April, you will need to fill a transfer form from your broker in order to get your dividend to your bank acct.

It's better to wait at 60/65kobo junction, that's a safer junction as far as I'm concerned...
