Took place somewhere in Imo state and we can see the live action unfold from the recording, the gunmen overpowered the soldiers after killing I believe two of them while the rest ran away, and the military truck was seized.

Nigerian soldiers were attacked and killed in onitsha. Even in onitsha, against UGM, the Nigerian army personnel left their vehicle and made a tactical withdrawal for their dare lives shocked

Just imagine if those guys were not armed, the Nigerian army will surely show their gallantry against unarmed people.
oga stop liaring .your information is not correct . the esn ran away after two of their boy and a commander was killed. they did not seize any military vehicle. that vehicle was theirs full detail later

You argue alot and from the position of ignorance, the person that recorded that video spoke in Igbo that one UGM and a soldier was gunned down, I don't know why you are still arguing blindly. Same way you lied that you got Intelligence that no security agent died when Ikonso was killed, despite telling you that the coursemate of the officer killed acknowledged it, I even told you the course of the said officer. As much as we all want to be patriotic we shouldn't ignore or dismiss the sacrifices of our security agents because of propaganda.

Tension yesterday enveloped communities in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory as hundreds of nomadic herders crossed Abuja-Kaduna highway into Sabon-Wuse in Niger State to camp there.

This development forced some residents of Sabon-Wuse, a few kilometers away from Bwari Area Council, to stay at home in fear of the unknown.

It was gathered that some of the herders, comprising men, women and children, who got to the area around 8:00 am, were from Niger Republic. They were moving with a large flock of animals, comprising cows, sheep, donkeys and camels.

A local vigilante leader, Hussaini Abubakar, told journalists that on arriving at the highway, the herders made a stop over at Sabon-Wuse due to the gridlock around a military checkpoint between Dikko junction and the town.

“They were able to cross the road after a while, and we met them across the road, which is under Tafa LGA where we operate.

“We engaged some of them to know about their mission. However, from what we gathered, some of them are from Niger Republic and they said they were heading to Bauchi State,” said the vigilante leader. He added that the herders’ efforts to cross the highway, which had worsened the gridlock, and also the fact that some of them were on motorcycles, made many people among the residents and passersby, to be in a panic.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders, MACBAN, in the area, Malam Haruna Idris, said there had been constant movement of nomadic herders for over a month now, with about 500 to 1000 mixed animals. “Every time we asked them about their mission, their answers are that they are migrating from either Niger, Kebbi or Zamfara states, heading to Bauchi. And in most cases, they used to pass the night around some nearby Rugas (herders settlement), before proceeding with their journey,” Idris added.

As of the time of filing this report (8:16pm), the herders had quit their camp in the area to continue their journey to Bauchi by night.

Efforts to speak to the FCT police spokesperson, ASP Maryam Yusuf, proved abortive as she did not pick phone call by Our Correspondent.

The main reason I am posting this news here is that, I once talked about Fulani heardsmen living in the bushes in ekiti with their wives and kids. And one mumu wey no sabi anything dey tell me say I dey lie grin

This people, they come in large group, they will go into the bush to live. Them dey get their markets and everything. And they are always armed to the teeth.

I wander why they are not been arrested and kicked out. They are not Nigerians. So why should they be allowed to move freely with their livestocks in our country? But the useless FG won't let people of Benin republic import Tomatoes, rice, turkey etc freely into the south west.

Southern politicians needs to wake up. The North East and the North West needs to be expelled from Nigeria or make we leave Nigeria for them.

The useless vegetable should open the border and let our local rice farmers compete with people importing from Benin republic. It will make the price of rice, tomatoes, beans etc fall. The Northerners have increased the price for no reason since the borders have been closed about 3-4 years ago. Let them start competing with our west Africa neighbours.

We don't really need to expel any part of the country, restructuring on all fronts especially economy and security will address most of these issues that's why revisiting 1999 constitution is very important. The country is sitting on a gunpowder and will implode if something is not done. This gov't is opposing restructuring and paying lip service to the activities of marauding killer Herdsmen cum bandits, they fail to realise that they aren't doing the legitimate herders any good because the day a Southerner takes charge of the country the clamp down on these trouble makers will be bloody and brutal and legitimate herders will suffer alot. We all know how there were hews and cries from these elements now in power when Bokoharam was being dealt with.

I agree with you on the part you talk about working on our Constitution. A lot of power needs to be giving to the states. The state should pay maybe 10-20% of their revenue to the FG, while the state keeps about 90-80%.

Fifty-five days after they were abducted from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, 27 students of the 37 abducted from their school dormitories have also regained freedom Wednesday.

Sources told Daily Trust that the students were received around Kidandan in Giwa Local Government Area of the state after a ransom of about N15 million was paid to the bandits and a convict was released.

Daily Trust gathered reliably that the release of the students was delayed even after payment of ransom last month because the bandits insisted on the release of one of their own arrested by the police.

The identified bandit, whose name was given simply as Laulu, was moved to Kaduna from a police facility in Kano on Tuesday ahead of the prisoner swap.

The negotiations suffered setbacks after the abductor, known as Buderu, reneged on his promise even after payment of the agreed sum.

Daily Trust learnt that father of one Buhari, alias General, who is also a fierce bandit had to be brought in to use his son in forcing Baderu to agree on the deal.

But Buderu, it was learned, insisted that even if no more money would be given to him, a relative of his arrested at Falgore Forest in Kano State must be released.

The students were released yesterday to intermediaries who served as a go-between between negotiators and the group, which masterminded the kidnapping on March 11, 2021.

The negotiations were facilitated by the Sheikh Ahmed Gumi dialogue committee with support from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo and Gumi have had at least two meetings over banditry ravaging northern part of the country and spate of abductions in recent past.

Gumi had led a team to Obasanjo’s residence in Abeokuta in April and the former leader hosted Gumi and his team to an iftar (breaking of fast) dinner in Abuja, last month.

The negotiators, it was learned, reached out to federal government to approve the release of Laulu, identified as a “repentant cattle rustler who was lured and arrested by vigilantes”.

However, contrary to information earlier that 39 students were abducted, it was revealed yesterday that 38 students had been abducted before one escaped a day after while the bandits later released 10 of the victims on April 5 and 8 after about N17 million was paid.

Intermediaries played key role

Security sources told one of our correspondents that intermediaries that were involved in the negotiations were relatives and in-laws of the bandits but never took part in the criminal activity.

“We were actually expecting them last night (Tuesday) and waited till midnight with a medical team but they did not arrive. However, the intermediaries called Wednesday morning and asked us to be on standby to receive 27 students,” a security source said.

On arrival in Kaduna, the students were taken to the state’s police command headquarters where they were received by the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Umar Muri.

Our reporter who witnessed their arrival reports that the students appeared sickly and weak with many of them limping.

The chairman of the student’s union, Abdullahi Usman thanked all those who assisted the families during their trial moment saying as parents they were aware of the support rendered by clerics and past leaders including security agencies in ensuring the release of the students.

One of the parents of the students who was in the know of the security operation, said: “They slept in the home of a Fulani leader somewhere in the outskirt of Kaduna. We had earlier sent vehicles to evacuate them but something happened so they passed the night there. We commend all those that supported us to see to their release including Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the security agencies. We pray such a nightmare never happens to anyone of us.”

Kaduna govt happy

Kaduna State Government while rejoicing the release of the students charged the students to view their ordeal as a motivator to put the past behind and work hard towards a happier and successful future ahead.

The government in a statement issued by the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, stated that the state government rejoices with the freed students, their families and the management of the institution over the development.

Speaking with Daily Trust last night, Sheik Gumi said negotiation with the bandits led to the released of the abducted students.

The cleric said he and former President Obasanjo took part in the negotiations, adding that the students will be taken for a medical check-up by the police before reuniting with their family.

Gunmen on Wednesday night attacked Obosi police station in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, killings two police Inspectors and freeing all detainees in the cell.

The attack happened barely 24 hours after the new Commissioner of Police, Mr Christopher Adetokumbo Owolabi, assumed office.

At least, five soldiers were reportedly killed by Boko Haram insurgents on Tuesday in Ajiri community, Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The incident happened after the visit of the acting governor of the state, Usman Kadafur.

A reliable military source disclosed that the latest onslaught by the terrorist group was a follow-up attack to Monday’s murder of six civilians and one security personnel in the community.

According to another source, 15 civilian JTF and 10 civilians were also killed in the fresh attack that took place in the morning.

“The insurgents seriously engaged the Nigerian military in a gun battle that lasted for several hours before finally dislodging the Special Forces at Ajiri.

“Some of the Special Forces personnel were seen scampering for safety as most of them made their way to Mafa for safety,” Abduljamil Adamu, a CJTF personnel, disclosed.

The insurgents were also said to have carted away five vehicles; three from vigilantes, one gun truck from the Nigerian military and one from CJTF.

Available information from Adamu indicated that many civilians ran into the bushes for safety, while others ran to Mafa town.

The acting governor of the state, Usman Kadafur, while condoling with the families of the deceased ordered the immediate reconstruction of destroyed houses.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Okon Edet, said he would not be able to comment on the matter since the military was in charge of the operation in the North-East.

However, the army could not be reached on Wednesday as its spokesman, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Yerima, did not respond to requests for comment.

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped over 100 people in Shadadi town in Niger state, killing 8 and leaving 4 injured.

A source who spoke with BBC Hausa said more than 1, 000 gunmen attacked the town on Wednesday and perpetrated the act.

The attack comes just days after Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello confirmed the activity of Boko Haram militants in the state.

The worst place affected by the latest attack is Shadadi town under Mariga Local Government Area where eyewitnesses said thousands of residents have fled the town after the incident.

According to some residents, people who were killed and kidnapped from Wednesday's attack are up to 100 but the state government said those who were kidnapped are lesser than that.

An eyewitness from another town said the gunmen had arrived in large numbers and started shooting sporadically at the people, killing 8 people instantly while 4 persons sustained injuries.

The resident stated that most of the people in the town have now relocated to neighbouring towns including Kontagora.

The Niger State Commissioner For information, Sani Idris, who confirmed the incident to the BBC, said the number of those killed and kidnapped is not up to 100 as eyewitnesses claimed.

He further stated that the government is still compiling the figures and that the state government is seeking the federal government's assistance regarding the insecurity disturbing the state.

As of the time of filing this report, it is not clear if the attack was carried out by bandits or Boko Haram militants but both parties have yet to take responsibility for the attack.

The Niger State Governor recently said Boko Haram terrorists hoisted their flag in a part of the state.

The governor said the insurgents also forcibly took the wives of some of the villagers for themselves.

“I am confirming that there are Boko Haram elements here in Niger state, here in Kaure, I am confirming that they have hoisted their flags here.

“Their wives have been seized from them and forcefully attached to Boko Haram members. I just heard that they have placed their flags at Kaure, meaning they have taken over the territory.

“This is what I have been engaging the federal government on, unfortunately, it has now got to this level. If care is not taken, even Abuja is not safe.

“We have been saying this for too long. All our efforts have been in vain,” the governor said.

Bello said the terrorists were trying to turn Niger into another Borno State, which has been their base for some time.

“Sambisa is several kilometres from Abuja but Kaure is just 2 kilometres from Abuja. So, nobody is safe anymore, not even those in Abuja.

"This is the time to act. All hands must be on deck, it is not a fight for Niger state alone,” he said.

The governor however vowed to “take action”, saying he would no longer wait for anybody.

I won't blame the military anymore for whatever they do in that state. UGM have made their point through violence. Now lie low, they won't. they want to keep attacking soldiers. Now soldiers are out to fight them back. Uzodinma don go give them excess cars and equipment. I haven't seen a governor donate that much before. Now, people get shot for simply misbehaving at checkpoints. You can't report to police because they'll definitely be defended. Armed robbers are all over the place and you can't call police. attacking security agencies sounded like a good revenge, but it was the wrongest move that will yield only tears.

It doesn't sound like a sound move though. The military should be doing everything possible to get the support of the locals in the region. It would have been better if they just avoided everyone both armed and unarmed and allow criminals have free reign until the people starts clamoring for their assistance.

Residents living on Douglas road, Ama-JK, Ikenegbu, Royce, Njamanze, Orji, Amakohia, Akwakuma and MCC road in Owerri, the Imo State capital, are now keeping vigil against unknown gunmen whose activities had wreaked havoc in the state.

DAILY POST correspondent who interacted with some of the residents reports that the crisis-prone areas seemed to have experienced relative peace as residents now thread with caution.

A provisions seller who lives in Amakohia said, “you can see that people are now closing their shops early for fear of the unknown gunmen. Because no one knows when they will strike.

“I used to close my shop by 11pm but not anymore. This time around, I close by 8pm. I have to save my life.”

The woman who refused her name in print recalled the series of armed robbery and kidnapping incidents that had taken place in the past couple of weeks.

She said, “my neighbour was recently kidnapped. She was released just last week after the family paid a huge sum for ransom.

“There is virtually no day that passes without any case of robbery or kidnapping in Owerri. We are really scared of the situation.

“The government, on its own, is not doing well in arresting the situation. They should know that peoples lives are involved and beef up the security architecture.”

A survey along the Orji, MCC and Douglas areas of the state capital revealed that traders occupying the busy roads have taken the same step of closing up their wares on time because, according to them, the bandits often strike at night.

This may sound as a good idea but the reality is that if they create a vacuum ESN will step in to fill the void and in the process they may win more converts, I think it will be counter productive for the security agencies to totally withdraw. What is needed is a bit of fine tuning in their strategy, professionalism shouldn't be compromised for any reason most of the grievances of motorists is the incessant extortion from security agents manning these checkpoints.

You seem to be supporting this UGM nonsense.
And what made you say that...?

They will make mistakes, in fact they are already making mistakes. Seeking recruits from amongst criminals can end in several dangerous ways. It is only a matter of time.
