Most private (small) companies treat their workers this way. I employed a young man as an IT personel mid February and he was scared I wasn't going to pay at the end of the month, but he was surprised when I did., anyway that's by the way

I'd suggest you involve a 3rd party, if you know his church sort his pastor and report him those kinda wicked men have special fears for their church daddies

I suggest you do this

First get a lawyer ( preferably a friend or family member who can do it for free) to write a letter on your behalf.

In the letter they will inform your employer of plans to inform bet9ja head office, the Nigerian Police and a human rights organisation. Then give him a week deadline to make payment. Include your account details.

I'm sure he will pay you back out of fear


If you can not get a lawyer, write a letter to Bet9ja office then report to the nearest police station. Inform the officers that you are broke and you just need your money back. They will surely respond.

To get your money back you must catch him in a way he will never expect.

You are wrong. It's a civil matter no doubt.

However the Police may get involved and they facilitate quick resolution.

Both parties will be invited and they settle the matter. Payment made and everybody is happy

Its an illegal act, in short 90% of Nigerians don't eve know the content of the law of the land. I repeat again, police is not debt recovery agency. They ar not power to do so by constitution. Its only the law court that can do that. Seeing police helping people to recover money or salary, doesn't mean its constitutionally right. Eve some people go to extend of hiring military men too, to do same. The relationship between the employee and his employer, irrespective the nature of the job is a legal contract. Which can only be interprete in a law court by the judiciary. The police belong to the executive arm.

Do not do anything rash or resort to self-help like fighting them, destroying anything or seizing their property. If you do, they have the right to invite the police and you will just see yourself in more trouble than you bargained for.

Get a lawyer to help you write a demand notice to your employer. A demand notice from a lawyer will reset their brain and if the lawyer is magnanimous enough, he might help you throw in a petition to the Commissioner of Police.

Don't waste your money on any police. All the people saying involve police have not had any police case involving money before. Report him to his bigger friends or even his pastor.

I'm in a similar situation at the moment. I'm being owed March and April salaries as I type this.

It's a security guard job of N25,000 (twenty five thousand naira) monthly.

I've decided to quit the job till I'm paid. So sad.

For private security companies, this is quite common. I worked part time for one.

My first cousin's cousins who was a director was always thinking of ways to shortchange operatives. He'd find reasons reasons to deduct money from the peanuts the operatives were being paid.

Eventually, he was kicked out of the company for illegally running a 20 man location somewhere in the East, I think Enugu state.

After the sack, he set up his own firm. The only security operative who I personally know was locked up for threatening him for nonpayment of his wages. The owner by the way was a former security official. He has worked with the OBJ, IBORI and FAYOSE. I won't mention the security outfit.

Eventually his company disintegrated has it was poorly run. Worse, he abandoned his wife and 2 daughters and married a lady that had money. They had a child and she soon threw him out. His new wife was one of those very pompous ladies. I think all she wanted was the baby.

Worse, his first wife applied for Canadian immigration with their 2 children. She now overseas with the kids and he's is here. He wasn't included in the package as I'm sure it was done secretly.

I feel so sad for him

I run a logistic company as side hustle and my riders earns 45k, For a while I have been paying my riders salary from my own normal job personal salary because work has been slowed and the little we make s being pumped back Into the business.. what’s 16k that a wicked boss s refusing to pay but yet can eat. ? If I Don’t pay my riders a day before month end, I always get worried cos me I normally collect mine a week before month end.
