Na your wife I pity most in that pregnancy situation. I bought the electricity pole and cables myself and still getting this huge bill with all that.

same here ooooh, people, government and companies just want to push their responsibilities to any where they see.

The painful thing is that a decade ago we all contributed in the estate to buy transformer and all the related wiring. Today my retired parent get a bill of over 45k which is nearly more than their monthly pension. When people insult the whites I lol. Transport and health care for the elderly is free, council task is subsidized or free, and power and water cost are reduced.

But as black men we treat ourselves worse than even our leaders do.

The other day a neighbour blocked the estate passage, and would not open his gate to adjust his vehicle despite all the knocking to adjust his vehicle. The vehicle owner had to use the bush, and got her tire totally damaged. This neighbor spends his time insulting the government. Another put canopy in the middle of a passage without prior notice or permission to celebrate his daughter getting married. No one could leave the estate with a car, and had to use public transport. It's almost all chaos in Naija

This topic should be on front page. While we are not in power, our collective voices can be heard

Before I do encourage people to stay in the country but with the recent development in the last 3-4 years if I also get the opportunity to move out of the country legally , I will do that with my family without second thought.
we are only after our selfish interest and don't care about other people.

After speaking with my family legal team concerning the bill I wrote another mail to IKEDC requesting for disconnection notice since it was not dropped the initial time and was also not sent to me by mail.
My legal team also said the disconnection is against as defined in section 5(1B) and section 10(1D) of the Act (NIGERIA ELECTRICITY REGULATION COMMISSION CONNECTION AND DISCONNECTION PROCEDURES FOR ELECTRICITY SERVICES, 2007). available on https://www.ikejaelectric.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/CONNECTION-AND-DISCONNECTION-PROCEDURES-FOR-ELECTRICITY-SERVICES-2007..pdf .

5. (1) A Distribution Company may only disconnect supply to a Customer’s address when the Customer has not paid
the amount correctly billed for that supply address by the relevant payment date;
PROVIDED that –
(a) Payment date is clearly shown on the bill ;
(b) Payment date is at least 10 working days from the date of delivery of the bill to the supply address or a
delivery address provided by the Customer, which is acceptable to the Distribution Company :

(c) Payment date has not been superseded by a subsequent payment date issued to the same Customer for
the same supply address ;
(d) Period between the payment date and the date of disconnection is not less than 3 months ;
(e) Distribution Company has verified from its records that the bill has not been paid ; and
(f) Distribution Company has given the Customer a written warning that the electricity supply shall be
disconnected if payment is not made by the payment date and the warning contains ;
(i) The date of its delivery to the supply address or any other address provided by the customer
“and”
(ii) A telephone number and or address acceptable to the Distribution Company where the
customer request assistance for paying the outstanding bill.

10. (1) A Distribution Company shall not disconnect a Customer’s supply of electricity for non-payment where;
Culled from NERC Website
(a) The Customer has paid the amount billed ; or
(b) The Customer has entered into a payment arrangement with the Distribution Company and payments are
being made in accordance with that arrangement ; or
(c) The amount owed by the Customer is less than the value of his one month’s usage ; or
(d) The Customer has made a complaint concerning the unpaid bill in accordance with the Commission’s
Customer Complaints Procedure, and the complaint remains unresolved ; or

(e) The Customer has applied for assistance from the Power Consumer Assistance Fund or some other
Customer welfare mechanism recognized by the Commission, and a decision on the application has not
been made ; or
(f) The only charge which the Customer has not paid is charge other than for the sale of energy, such as
meter maintenance charge.

The disconnection was done in less than 7 working days and we are yet to reach a conclusion based on the thread on this email. all I keep getting is that it has been forwarded to the necessary authority without any outcome for the past 16 days.

Laws in Nigeria are not worth the paper they are written with. Who will prosecute the case, who will judge the case - Nigerian judges? Who will enforce the jdgement, assuming you get a favourable judgement - Nigerian police?
Every institution is a law unto itself. NERC and other government regulatory bodies including the CBN are collaborators in scamming and exploiting the ordinary citizens. The armed robbery by the banks in the guise of banking is a whole new episode of its own.

Nigerians should start thinking of self sufficiency and forget we have a government. Provide your own security, provide your own power, provide your own water, you even need to provide your own roads.

Another day gone and IKEDC is yet to review my huge exaggerated bill.
Truly in Nigeria nothing like consumer protection and that is why the companies do whatever they like.
Re: IKEDC Fradulent Overbilling And Scam Activities (nairalander Experience 2021) by edimalo(m): 12:05pm On May 12, 2021
After sending another series of mail to IKEDC and they promised the below.

Please be informed that the account number 0101650571 has been scheduled for suspension in this month’s bill maintenance.

Be rest assured that necessary action will be put in place to facilitate a review of the account once suspension has been effected.

They brought April bill of NGN 77,686.34 after disconnecting my light since 19th April 2021.
Are we supposed to pay for darkness, am sure they are doing this because the regulatory body doesn't punish them for their atrocities.
It is either they are bribing the regulatory bodies or the regulatory bodies don't have action.
A new 2 bedroom flat without A.C installed and disconnection done for close to a month now you have billed NGN 151,353.19
for you to know this people are scam, how is it possible to use same no of units (1878 units) in March that I was there for 3 weeks and April that you have disconnected the house since 19th of April.
Mind you I am the that still but pole and low tension (4 wires) to get to my house so what are they charging for.

oga lalastclala , I know this is not a snake thread but please help to put a stop to this. this platform is our voice which we can use to fight our right.

I got my pre-paid meter installer earlier this week before the holidays through (Make I no talk)
but still sent another mail to IKEDC on the outstanding bill of N151,353. I didn't get a response from them.
They purposely want to put debit on the prepaid meter so that they can generate money from it but I will try my best to have it reduce to normal bill.

Been following this from your first post, I salute your tenacity.

That is their aim, how on earth will you consume electricity worth of over 150k in about 6 weeks you moved in despite the fact that you have been disconnected for about 4 out of the 6 weeks abi is it not 7th of April you moved in again. They are billing you for march via April bill when you moved in April.

Fight it to the last ooo, if you need to drag them on SM please do, copy whoever you need to copy , they will claim you owe the 150k and want you to have a paymement plan.

Ikeja electric is notorious for crazy billing, next time when you open the account, they should place it on dormant since you have not connected light/ moved in that's what I did at my mums place in ikorodu the marketer even called to know the specific house, she wanted to know if we connected light so as to receive bill, told her outrightly wire is not connected she should go and confirm ,we didn't even hang the wire on the pole till they brought the prepaid before they even brought it nko under MAP another wahala.

Thank you so much, I appreciate.
You just pointed out the mistake I did initially putting the account on DORMANT. I didn't know something like that is possible, The marketer only told me to hold on till when I want to move in before opening account as it will start reading because of he knew what they wanted to do he said I should not process the flat not yet completed.
I was thinking he was doing me a Favour and still gave him some cash to help with the account opening
I have also complained on FCCPC website but yet to get a response from them.
I noticed that most people you tag on SM sometimes they won't help give publicity because someone is not a celeb. I already tag some online but yet to see any of them retweet it.

with the way it is the house rent I ran away from is now far cheaper than electricity bill and don't know where in the world that happens.

I was thinking Lalasticlala will help to also give publicity but not gotten any attention from them.

Anyway its good a prepaid meter is installed now, at least the debt is still 150k you can still fight that out, continue disturbing them. If you can visit the office do, call the marketer, You have your pictures date of disconection, date you moved in, dont relent NEPA wahala takes time to resolve. I feel your pain sir.

Let me share this with you.

Early last year before the lock down, a church applied for a prepaid meter from IKEDC but they never responded in time. During the lockdown, IKEDC kept on bringing bills to the church despite no activity for months.

After the lock down and churches reopened, the Pastor wrote a letter to IKEDC, took it to their office and told them he is suing them. That got the attention of their manager who pleaded with the Pastor. Within a month, they installed Prepaid meter for the church and his house and I am sure those bills were canceled.

For your case, I believe you can sue them somehow and get their attention because this bill sent to you is pure injustice. Over 150k in 2months, that’s just crazy. If you manage your Prepaid meter well, you won’t even spend 100k a year.

I like that already wrote a letter to NERC and waiting their response, the organization is criminal in nature.
I have been requesting for disconnection notice for almost a month, it is always an excuse or the other for not giving it out.
I am also considering the legal option as well.
we all complain the nation is not treating us fair but we also in our small space just plan to take advantage of the next person.

You have to get this thing sorted out. If you go to their customer care to just complain alone, they will tell you that there is nothing they can do.

Get a lawyer, show him all the proofs, go to their office near you and sue them. You will get the attention of their boss.

Your next bill may even be higher than 75k and believe me, if you are given a prepaid meter, you will still pay off the debts.

Don’t let them scam you in the name of estimated bill.
