Hello everyone...i took my time to go through everything here and i must commend all the contributors here...

Now to the question

On the rent issue, are there other charges attached to your first month rental in Brazil? let me give you an example, i currently reside in Senegal and when i looked for apartment for me and my family, i was charged caution fee amounting to 2 months and 1 month agency fee plus one month rent.... i ended up paying as high as 800,000 CFA for an apartment of 200,000 CFA .... Caution fee is supposed to be refunded whenever u want to go but some of the agents don't give it back....so I want to know if there are other fees not declared here as it relates to accommodation so I can budget well...

I don’t know how to use this thread, because I am only a silent reader... never replied anyone, or dropped a message . Lol

It’s not an under G thing, but I believe most of us just getting the visa applied long long ago.
I first visited their office in December 21st 2020 and I was told they had closed since 17th.
But immediately after the new year, I applied on the 4th of January, and got the visa 3 weeks ago.
Bought my ticket immediately, and arrived Tuesday

Infact, I had given up on it...
Imagine applying in First week January, and getting visa in April.
After 2 interviews in person.
But it means God wanted it for me... so immediately I got approved by mail, I sent courier to pickup.
And next day I bought a ticket

I am still at a cross-road.
I bought the tickets too quickly and I don’t know anyone here, neither do I know anyone to talk to.
Everyone speaks Portuguese.
But I have struggled to get a SIM card and call home, with it so they know I am fine.
Getting food is hard, because I don’t know what to do also. I only have dollars with me, And still at the hotel.
I have tried booking accommodation via Airbnb, but it keeps rejects my debit card.
Hoping a miracle happens soon, so I rent an accommodation and leave the hotel honestly.
It’s tiring

Also, when you want to use POS and they ask “Debito ou Credito”. You need to respond “Credito” even though our cards have “Debit” written on them.

Hi Ajokeomo
If I need to pay for accommodation via booking or Airbnb how do I go about the payment with a debit card ?
They seem to be requesting for only credit cards and won’t take cash

You can visit the redeem church, there are Nigerians there that will welcome you. Here's the church address: Avenida Valdemar Ferreira, 4, Butanta. Sao Paulo, SP.

I didn't have problem using Airbnb but I used my domiciliary account.

Visit 'Shopping light' and ask for the "Cambio" you can change small usd to reais there. When you visit the church later they can share contact of Nigerians that help with money conversion in Centro then you can change the remaining usd at a better rate.

Which part of Brazil are you staying? That will help me direct you to stores where u can get some food items.

Thank you so much. I met someone today, and I was able to get an apartment in Bela Vista. He collected dollars in cash.

It just remains other things. But I believe with time, I’ll get through it all. Thank you all, I am grateful for the messages and support.

I tried booking.com first, and after using my card... they debited me, only for me to arrive the location and they told me I couldn’t get access. And my transaction was reversed.
I had already carried all my Load, had to go back to the hotel after I had checked out on that day.

But God is merciful, people reached out to me today, and I secured a place.
