Some people who use some of those 3k tecno phones change them every now and then due to the nature of their work. So they will also be submitting their IMEI every month?

I think there's a mistake in the communication from NCC, they can never ask you to go and register your imei, for every call / sms you initiate, the imei of the phone is sent the the network providers, I've developed several interfaced api for such.

Do this people understand that IMEI of most phones can be also be manipulated?

If the linking of NIN to Service Providers haven't yielded the desired results why the rush of uploading IMEI?

There are ways to curtail this insecurity which the government haven't really explore. If I may ask, how many of our Police Stations have a tracking devices & how many of the police personnel's can effectively use them? Let them resume the basis & see things work Luke magic. My humble opinion ooh

Very simple... the criteria of purchasing any simpack is always that you register it there and then before it will be handed to you... it usually takes 2mins to register at any shop...That will reduce crime alot in Nigeria... I'm even surprised that it has not been introduced in Nigeria in this modern time...Every shop that sells sim is linked with network providers...
My questions, when those inhumane people kidnapp, how do they reach the victims family?
Don't they place a call through a phone that's already registered with passport and address?
Truth is that no matter how many times they get people registered on the system, people will still commit crime.
See, the Nigeria government knows how to fetch out those bad egg, still they won't.

This is more than registration. The last time was NIN linking now it's ID, maybe the next will be family numbering.

You have no idea what phone and contents in a cellphone means to some people.. I will simply excuse u on that smiley..

I didn't ask u what phone& it's contents means to some people. U made a fallacious claim that phone registration will reduce crime alot in nigeria and I asked u how will phone registration reduce crime. Up till now, u can't defend ur comment. All u are doing is making off point comments. I ask again how will phone registration reduce crime in nigeria?

Who told u, if they still want to steal the phone they will. The ones they have stolen, has anything been done about finding it? To track phone self is a problem if u provide them with the imei when ur phone is stolen. The next thing u will see is government will use us to be cashing out on that aspect. Releasing our imei to this present government will be the worse thing ever

They can obtain you IMEI from network providers if they want to sha.

I think implementation of the idea is the key thing.

I understand your point bro but this is Nigeria.

The first thing to do is to make life a bit easier for the common man. Once there jobs, the cost of living is reasonable etc the rate of crime will reduce.

But as long as we have this incredible number of unemployed people in Nigeria and as long as the number keeps multiplying, crime will keep multiplying.

You see this policy? It's only good in papers.

The same police you report to will charge you to help you trace your phone, sometimes their charge is more than the cost of the phone.

The werey imei will be wiped and replaced in certain phones.

We already have specialists in unlocking/buying stolen phones.

Do you think those people that format locked phones, wipe and change imei etc do not know that the phones were stolen?

Even country with high standard of living and high employment rate also adopted this policy. If you read the post well, you'll see where he said that even when a thief changes the IMEI they still have a way of getting the original one.

A lot of people have entered serious problem cos they bought stolen phones. This policy would reduce such. Now when your phone is stolen all you need to do is report it to the appropriate authorities and the phone would be locked and become useless to the thief. And nobody would want to buy a phone that the owner can't open. The only useful thing the thief can do with the phone is to sell the phone parts..

The only downside to this is the corruption of the police who would ask you for big cash before they track your phone.

They will steal your phone... yes but it will be useless.. because you will report and it will be locked. before it's opened, Questions like
IS it a SIM Locked? Was this phone stolen or lost? and so on ..All this uncomfortable questions would be asked and it will be dictated in the system when the person comes to unlock... It would deter some people from buying stolen phones..And before any phone is opened, you come with some ID...Like international passport, Local ID not birth certificate smiley....
The idea is actually good but is d government truthful? That's d question we need to ask

I love Nigerians.

Watch as they run out to fulfill every crazy requirement put out by any crazy person in authority.
Ignore this submission and NCC becomes powerless. They can't disconnect everyone. But there are countless sissies out there.

word jare, from sim registration to BVN to NIN, so far as crime reduced in nigeria. instead of the govt to roll out policies that will cushion the present economy hardship, they are thinking of how to go head to head with crime.
without looking into the root of what is causing crime to increase they think they can solve crime. Govt refuse to creat job yet dey wonder why for every 100yahoo boy efcc arrest a day 200 signs up, same as other crimes, we just keep going in circles.
Nigerians are not lazy and when there are job opportunities crime will be less appealing to most youths.

What kind of absurdity is this?

" According to Buhari we should submit..."

Who does Buhari thinks he is?

We should be running around because of a Buhari that has lost his memory?

Imei can can be hidden. Do these people know anything at all?

Most of the country abroad way all of una dey eye to go dey do am, why not start learning to submit to relevant authority now before you waka ?
Nobody does that.
The most relevant factor is to register your sim with a valid ID, anyone can be tracked through this.

With the proliferation of virtual numbers and phones you can buy for small money, who’s even laying emphasis on these things?

Seems these people don’t have capable advisers.

All I see in this deft move is another simple distraction. You can't beat the logic. We are already in June, with another 3/months of madness , we enter September. Friends and family starting saving up to out do one another for Christmas season. People will start shouting ember months and how delicate it is , people start fervently pray and worship so as to see the new year. Who wants to miss a new year for anything else. This is the game.

Now the agitators for successions, state police, referendums, restructuring and what have view will mellow down since their supporters will be engaged in new madness of 3/months and this will allow the GCFR to have a breath of fresh air u diluted. Let see how it goes.

The distraction code will even reach the constituency of the Bandits, UGM etc. Every item will get busy. And I trust Nigerians with their rush mentality, system will choke and their will be call for extension to date and will all engage in this cycle of madness to second quarter of next year when politics and politico of 2023 will have sharpened the horizons.

Not when corruption is an epidemic in Nigeria?

All these can't work without a changed mindset towards corruption

you don't need any authority to lock your stolen iPhone or most high end Android phones. If someone steals my phone I can lock it within 30 seconds. I don't need ncc to help me do it. They should fix the bad network signal and reduce data price and leave irrelevant things alone

Re: Nigerians To Submit Phone IDs In Three Months - NCC by Nobody: 8:52am On May 21, 2021
we all know that the major reason for this Nin linking to mobile lines and now this potential phone registry isn't for the good of the common Nigerian, but because the government of the day has become gittery with the recent mass movements in the nation and are trying to provide means to promptly identify, suppress and pinpoint people and areas of interest.
Next we will begin to submit that of our laptops or even android watches.
And oh, the price of mobile phones will increase more and second hand phones wouldn't be advisable to buy then. The policeman will now have another reason to harass the populace
