I would have loved to remain anonymous, but what's the point?

My problem is I'm a jobless graduate, who works for a friend. This friend I work for, doesn't even pay, he just gives me stipends after every work I do. It's a laundry work. He owns the shop, so he's in charge of everything in the shop including, collections of money and all. My work is just to work. I do virtually everything in the shop.

My problem is this guy almost all the time collects the money and doesn't even give me my share. The only time I see my share is when the I'm around when the monies are given to him.

I'm hooked because I mostly feed in there house, because the shop is just within the house. I tried to get a good job, but nothing is forth coming. I even tried applying for casual jobs, still no luck.

I'm currently in a dilemma because my parents are tired of me staying in there house, so currently I sleep in the shop, and it's not even conducive, but that's the only option I have.

I tried contacting my relatives in Lagos if I could go and make a living there, but they aren't really interested me coming.

Please I kindly need advise and help, because I'm heading towards depression.

I'm actually 30 years old. With nothing to show for, except "I'm a graduate" tag.
Hmmm, brother, Though I am 32, a graduate of mechanical engineering. If I had allowed myself to be depressed due to my situation,I would have died. My parents are not rich and they are no more again.

Yes, I have brothers, one of them was ok, I told him to help me travel out, he doesn't answer. And I said this for the sake of the family.

I left my state for Lagos to stay with a brother that has wife n kid.

I trekked so hard in Lagos that I almost moved all around Lagos looking for job. Even so recruitment company still collected money from me and yet, nothing.

Even if I want to learn something, I will have to pay but where is the money.

I sold my land at home to do a maritime course at ikoyi when one of my brothers' friends linked me to a captain. I called tired after wasting that money on the course yet, I have not gotten any reply from captain that promised to help and asked me to go ahead with the course. Since last year August that I finished the course, I have not heard from him. Even when I call, he won't pick, so I gave up that that is not my job. I want to start as oiler on the ship.

I worked at a generator company for almost 2years just for peanut of 20k per month when I will still enter transport and feed. I currently live with friends after leaving that bro house when he moved to another place.

Presently, a bros I knew way back at home was the one that helped me get a casual work at a company. Imagine a graduate, 32years, I have not been able to rent apartment of my own, I couldn't go home,no girlfriend.

I lost two girls just cos I haven't gotten on my feet.

One even said I am not the kind of guy she wants to roll with. But I didn't die hearing that. I just let it pass.

I love the girl despite being a baby mama. And this is a girl we dated before I went for service, thinking things will be good and u will marry her. She's yet to marry now and she's 29.

Brother, let believe, things will surely work out well.

I love as you spoke out. You will see that help will come. We are in the same shoe.

Why worry when you can turn the table around, you can be like your friend in sooner time than you think, if laundry would feed him, house him and family if he is married and while you take a little from it don't you think it isn't a bad idea to venture into it, why look for work again, it shows you are really out of your mind and this could lead to anything, depression, anxiety, pain, worry. Bringing your mind down and decide in your heart that this is your bus stop, that you want to become a laundry man, learn the work and learn new skills. As you learn advertise yourself to family and friends that you will wash their clothes for a fee, but you must do yours at home, my brother wasn't even happier at first just like you even worse but with advice he decided to settle for it, he was going to school and be doing it, he graduated and still doing it now he is doing very well. If you need help on how to start your laundry business chat me up........ Don't feel like laundry job is for the poorest, you can manage a family your home a shop and a business with it. All you need is the right fawns

Ur advise is there for u. U want fish when u have privilege to learn how to fish. Stop complaining and learn the damn laundry and start up ur hustling. Timaya is great today because he was in ur condition why he was with Eedris. the only thing i hate in him was not being grateful for that moment that made him but chose to insult who made him over money. Humbly learn the laundry business strategy and import ur so called graduate sense to it and u are made.

May be someone might have given this same advice here:

1) Forget about your age and focus on achievement not comparison with others.
2) Start with a seed in your hand: Like you said, you are already helping out with laundry, learn the skill more while still with him.
3) Starting from zero to hero is not easy as people supposed. Go online or inform people who can recommend you to a laundry service where you can help them to manage the business honestly.
4) Earn worthily as an apprentice with someone doing laundry business, aside your friend, then have a saving plan eg. using piggyvest towards starting your own business.
5) Write out what it will cost you to start your business including equipment, shop rent and co. This can form a basis of your business proposal which you can hire someone to write for you at a small token in order to seek financial support either from family members, friends, micro finance banks, government etc. When you write business plans/proposal people take you more serious.
6) Start charging below usual price or add extra for the same pay others charge. For instance, if it costs #5000 to dryclean 2 suits, give a pro-bono for clients for an extra suit without paying extra.
7) Implement digital service to what you do. This has been overflogged on this platform. Check up on how to digitalize your business. You can see the power of digital technology from the question you asked. Same can work for you if you Implement it to your business.
cool Research complementing business to support your business as a means of diversification. This could be POS business or what is in high demand in your vicinity.

This is just one out of several ways you can start a good life to a good fortune for yourself.

Why not start your own laundry shop, then approach family members and friends to assist you in getting a shop and a generator, you can buy the rest once you stabilize financially.

To me it's much better than your current state where you work yourself out only for another person to pocket your efforts.
With which money? Person say den no dey pay am nd u still dey give this kind advice. Look at the situation from his perspective b4 giving advice.

What's your discipline?
Re: My Current State Of Mind by clericuzzio(m): 5:50pm On May 21, 2021
Dear OP,
I really feel your pain cos I was in such situation few years back.
What I will advise you to do is this: If you know you can iron very well, I mean very well, you can go round your area and look for places where you can iron based on counting. The higher you iron the more money you make(of which each shirt you iron could earn you N30.) If you iron 100 per day, you make 3k. From there you could start going for ironing till day break while you use your day time to find a side hustle or learn more from some thread here.

Once you raise enough capital you can start buying the needed equipment (iron, generator etc) washing machine can come last since it's more expensive.

I bet you within a year of following this advise you'd be on your own.

Good luck to you

What can I say
I decided to be a writer three days ago and i am quite focus compare to when i was looking for what to do. The problem with must graduates is that they just want money but dont have the means to get it or even the idea to get it.
You can decide to define yourself now and become better at what you decide to be.
These are the questions i wrote down which i think helped me out of my dilemmas........ If you could answer them, then you can be settled good.

Who are you?
What are you?
What do you want to become?
Who do you want to become?

If you are truly a graduate, start preparing secondary school students for exams. You can do home schooling or partner with a private school owner in your area.

Soon, you will have your friends working for you
