This story hit home and i can relate so i shed a tear. God dey, the first rule in life is trust NO ONE. you came alone and you will depart alone.

You might want to listen to BLESSED (schoolboy Q ft Kendrick Lamar) while reading while you light up a blunt, it'd help you a lot

Know this and know peace.

you can hit the ground running with a few tips below I you don't have any profitable venture at the monent, this..can be applied to almost anything if you think critically.

imma keep it real with you like my brother from another mother, The educational system in Nigeria has been watered down a great deal but there are still opportunities for grassroot hustlers, best believe that.

All you need now is a hustler's ambition / mindset, you need to grind like one who has no mother or father, its cold out there.

In Nigeria, there are two classes of people (Living things and non living things)...you need to be amongst the living and stop whinning and complaining about this and that, nobody has it easy. If everyone comes to Nairaland beer parlor with his or her story, you go thank God for your life.

Bum imma share some gems with you real quick and if you are street wise, you will take action immediately.

If you must make it in Nigeria, you must think like an OUTLAW. push your fine boy and degree aside, roll up your sleeves and hit the ground running.

however, If you are techy (digital marketing, ecommerce, mini importation)

If you are dead broke don't venture into programming, you cannot effectively learn programming on an empty stomach with lack of data

If you are hands on Plumbing, woodwork, electrical, interior design solar design and installation, phone and laptop repair

Let me give you a brotherly advice, and I hope you work on it...
First of all I counsel people and I have done that on nairaland for a while... I have met great and good guys...
I dropped a story about my experience teaching in two schools as a corper and would not mind partnering with schools in abuja, but some accused me of looking for teaching job... Never ever mind what people say...
Back to the matter...
As a graduate, teaching and earning 15k, e no bad... But once you have a good (android) phone, go to any car stand of your choice around your area... Listen well, any good car stand and ask to see the manager... Tell him you want to help him market his cars and get good buyers... 90% of car stand managers will sign u on... Tel him you will be paid a small commission after sales...
Pick up your phone, snap as many cars as your phone memory can take, open a dedicated twitter ac, IG ac, Facebook ac, WhatsApp ac, ac etc... Take out time to post this cars, make sure you have the actual prices of this cars... You can add as much as #250k on it... Bring down the negotiations to as low as making #50k if need be just so I can sell. Set your monthly target... I assure you, if you get I client in a month, u make around #100,000k once you start growing, you can get as much as 5-10 client from all over the country and that hits you over #1m for just helping others sell their cars, Note all you invested was your time, energy, phone and data... No big financial capital...
Do not restrict yourself to cars, go for industrial machines as well, caterpillars, mikano gens, any thing, then you look for those big companies that need them and try to call their attention to it or market it to them... You may not sell in 3 months but when you manage to get a client to buy just 1 caterpillars, my brother you will instantly forget that u suffered before...
A friend of mine was marketing a silo for a local wielder, he received a call all the way from kebbi state, the purchase was made in Ilorin, he made #1.8 mil from buyers and #400k from seller... He still got a referral from that deal. Wake up bro...
Within a month or two, come and pay (tite).
I drive uber/bolt in abuja, market cars, sell commodities such as beans, maize, wheat,
ginger, onions, name it... In bags and tonnes
And I make nothing less than half a mil monthly...We all blessed my nigga !

Reach me privately if you are interested in gadget importation and sales from US.

What a friend did to me last week.

Just like in my case, so many graduates in the country are today, traumatized, depressed or even suicidal. Nothing is more depressing than seeing oneself jobless after several years of graduation. More annoying is when there's no finance to even start a business no matter how brilliant the business idea could be. If I have capital or even a collateral to use and get some money somewhere, I would rest completely from job hunting.

My ordeal.
Few months ago, I stumbled on a friend on Facebook whom we were school mates back in secondary school. His parents resided outside the state which he normally came back on school resumption and would go back during holidays.

On meeting him on Facebook, taking a look at his pictures, he's obviously doing well and claimed he's working with an international NGO. I told him my pains which is unemployment. Immediately, he was happy and telling me not to worry again that with his connections here and there, I'll get a job. His promise was to fix me either in the NGO, an insurance company, factory work or any other place of which he has links and connections.

We talked extensively and negotiated my movement and arrived I should come over last week. The plans was to stay in his 2 bedroom apartment and until 3-4 months when I can rent my own place. So I moved from Rivers state to Lagos Monday last week with just 16k on me. En route Lagos, we were keeping in touch so to know how closer I am and until I got to Lagos (God is Good Motors park) around 8pm. I called him that I have arrived the park and he said he was coming to pick me.

Long story short, that was the last time his number went. Initially, I thought it was network, or may be temporary low battery. I kept dialling the number through out the night but it never went again. Of course I had no choice than to sleep in the park. Woke up the next morning hoping his number would go but still same. I had no body else in Lagos nor knowing any where as that was my first time in Lagos. So I was just roaming around the park the whole day like a lost sheep, hungry, frustrating and pains but still hoping for his call but none came. When I tried reaching via Facebook and realized I was blocked, that was when it dawned on me that I have to start going back immediately. Already, transport fare from PH to Lagos finished about N10,500. So I was left with about 4k on me. At that point in the evening, I knew my best bet as I said earlier was to find my way back immediately but I didn't even have enough cash for my return. I had no option than to start telling people about my predicament and appealed for help to raise fund to return home the next morning. I was mocked and laughed at while some were asking to buy my phone at a very ridiculous amount. But then at that point, I could have sold it at the ridiculous amount but the phone was the only medium of communication with people especially my mum who was already worried over the journey right from the onset. I kept approaching people to help me and until one man graciously completed the money for me and I paid for my return.

On reaching home, I did nothing than thanking God that at least my case wasn't like that of late Iniobong Umoren. At least I came back home alive...which is the most important thing. But what I don't understand is why the guy chose to be that wicked to me forgetting this world is a very small place. I mean if there was never a job, why did he have to put me through that? Anyways, I have since moved on. Not even swearing/cursing him but leave everything for God. Such is life!

Fellow nairalanders, that is the dairy of a Nigerian job seeker. This leave me with the question, "will Nigeria ever be good for ordinary Nigerian?"

You humans can be very greedy and wicked. When you needed hand to lift up from your situation and later you become greedy and disloyal. For me, it's good he didn't introduce you to any connection. I have stopped connecting friends to my source of food on my table. Many people like you are back stabbers but I am not saying you are already.

I helped two close friends who were struggling to feed their families but what did I get? It turned out betraying me and till now I regret wishing it never happened.

Which other side do you want to hear,exactly?... Or could it be that you do not believe that there are people that callous?
I also find it interesting that you want to dismiss his experience because of your own experiences... Almost as though you've known him personally.

Op must have done something terrible to him in the past, cos I don't want to believe that a friend will make Op travel all the way to Lagos, even talk to him en-route assuring him all is well, then ghost him, no way he was just plainly wicked, no way.

Don't be too sure about the OP offending the guy in the past,we have people without conscience, a friend of mine wedded last December, when he was preparing, he met one of his town's man in the market begged him to be the chairman of the occasion which he agreed (collected the wine that was giving to him and drank),he didn't travel home for Christmas, my friend was calling him and he was assuring him that all is well, even before they went to the church on the day of the wedding, he still called him,he responded positively (meanwhile he is in Lagos),it was when the reception was about to commence with no traces of the "chairman" that my friend's dad gets someone to perform the functions of the chairman. It will interest you to know that my friend DID NOT OFFEND THIS GUY IN ANY WAY",to cap it all,the guy is a "Chosen Mopol".

At least, you could have got somewhere to trace him to.
I don't mean to insult you bro, but you sound a bit naive in this particular situation. Like you were replied before, how can you trust someone who switched off every possible line of communication with you after getting you stranded in strange land, to have given you a valid address of his actual location? If you were the OP, you would have probably wasted more money trying to get to an imaginary address even when it's obvious you are being punished for something you have no idea about. That would have made things worse and even more complicated because of the current Nigeria security situation. The OP did what was logical and right at that point in time.

I had a similar experience few years ago in Abia when I went for Nysc. The only difference is that the guy later called me late in the night when I had settled in the house of some good igbo family in Umuahia who were touched by my sad experience which I narrated to them when they saw me seated at the gate of their estate. I later found out that this corps member guy had 2 female corps member flatmates staying with him and therefore he was not happy to host me for that night because he thought I was going to be sharing his apartment with him when I eventually get posted from camp, which never happened. So you see the problem? Greed and selfishness are the major reasons people act very cold to their fellow man. Some guys will rather accommodate a lady who promised them a one night stand than help an old friend who has an urgent interview the next day. Na the type of world we dey be that o.

I had thought about all that, reminiscing in our moments during those days but can't wrap up my mind anywhere I offended him. None at all.

It's possible you offended him unknowingly but he never forgot about it. Sometimes we might offend somebody unintentionally and the other party never forgets. It's up to you to reach out to him to see if you offended him in any way.

Or maybe plans changed or something came up for him suddenly that he changed suddenly, still not an excuse for him, tho, to leave you hanging like that.

Thank God for your life. Start a business of selling food. With less than 20k start frying Akara, making Pap and selling bread. Just identify a busy area where commercial riders and people are. Let's stop waiting for white collar jobs. Many companies are not paying salaries today. Cheers

Either way, that was wicked of him. If the case is the latter, whats in the past is in past. God would sha see you through....

I can recall my first assignment on a foreign land. Was given a contact to meet up and would be hosted for couple of days till my accommodation was finalized.

Was on call before departing and everything seem fine and good to go.

On getting to the location after a 4hr journey, the contact stood me up. I called and called and cried and nearly ended up sleeping on the bench in the waiting area. The weather was 5 degrees that night..

That very moment changed me as a person. Been in a foreign country for the first time and getting stood up like that was the least I expected.

But thank goodness I had a back up back up plan. This was a relative I kept her number prior to departing Nigeria.

She had no clue of my arrivals or planned trip but was all the same very very happy to accommodate me. So rather than crying myself out.. my anger kept me up all night waiting for the next train that was going to depart 5am to my cousin's location.

Till this day I never understood if it was part of my training or just wickedness. But the growth I attained made me appreciate that situation I found myself, because it triggered all the qualities needed to survive in the game and kinda made me ruthless also.

Same here happened to me. After my 3wks nysc camping in Abj, went back to Lag for xmas break.

After the break, i went back to Abj on new year, arrived park at 11pm (15hrs Lag to Abj, funny the person called to ask where I reach all through the journey, even asked if I got money to take can to his place hoping he will pay for it when I arrived there. I was surprised when he throw out my baggages I kept with him b4 entering camp. Using F* words and over aggressive. I was disappointed and felt bad, hungry and tired. All my hopes gone, connection gone. Parked my luggages and leave his premises before killing somebody. What a way at getting back to my family because of little family misunderstanding during that short break.

Well, after walking few distance along the street, he sent security guys to double cross me. Did one last help my booking hotel in that area that night to prevent any future police case on him. Call all through the night and found out that I have one distance family cousin in nearby state that new nothing about the whole event.

That was last time we communicate even though I don't have anything against him, but life experience comes with some lessons.

What are your qualifications?

Please, what did you study?

Nigeria can never be good!!!... except it's dissolved, we are born into an evil and highly corrupt environment and this is being inculcated into us one way or the other, so you see an average Nigerian is a corrupt and evil fellow, even the people commenting depicting they care 95% don't care and will also see you and mock you!... the reality is NO ONE CARES!!!

Personally i think this is a handwork of either hacked facebook or you are chatting with someone who is using your friends pics and name.

Op try check well with the facebook link.. Does it correspond with the name on the profile. Also search his number on truecaller. What does it bring out?

Try contacting a mutual friend who might likely be in contact with him.. Try to know whatsup

These yahoo boys are using people profile

Just fear that guy any time you see him, I guess he wanted to use you but luckily for you. God disrupt their plans just immediately you got close to Lagos. That why I think he block you. Flee from your friendnemy where ever God uncover their face for you to see. Just live your normal live and forgive him. He will meet his Karma. And I pray that God will grant you the good job

Which other side do you want to hear,exactly?... Or could it be that you do not believe that there are people that callous?
I also find it interesting that you want to dismiss his experience because of your own experiences... Almost as though you've known him personally.

Hmm! I feel for him anyway but it might be the guy realized it's better not to help him after remembering those he had helped later became betrayals. His friend that invited should have never invited him in the first place. Sad indeed!

Similar story like this happened to someone i met for the first time in London. Let's call her chick

She had been speaking to her friend before and after securing her visa. Same friend assured her of accommodation and said she was looking forward to picking her up

Chick shows up at Heathrow airport and no one shows up to pick her. Her friend switched off all phones.

Chick begs the Nigerians she meets at the airport to help her with accommodation.
Finally a Nigerian Edo gal agrees and takes her in. 2-4 days in, she tells chick that she has to start hustling by doing what she does, which is selling pussy. As different men always came to the house for this.

Chick refuses becos its not her custom and she came from a good home. Chick talks to a man about her problem, he brings her to where i was living with other guys. The owner of the crib refused to take her in but called another guy, an Igbo married man to take her in.

Chick is very beautiful so half way in btw her stay, she and the guy start sleeping together as her survival instinct kicks in. Don't know what happened later but heartbreak it sure was.

Saw her one day on the streets of LDN and she had changed. Had been through hell and back. I felt so bad for her and still wonder why she never returned to Naij.

Fear Nigerians. The devil lives in a lot of 'em

A lot of Nigerians in Europe will tell you worse including how their passports with visas were robbed by their friends upon arrival, 1st night

The scammer didn’t have to do that, he could have simply asked and get his own, without being a criminal. People who have a choice to get something legitimately should rather not resort to criminality to get it. Our mentality is really weird.
