They burnt the police station because of the way people are been killed and kidnapped in their communities by bandits.

We need state police, is not compulsory the state police will be under the command of the state executive.

Seriously, state police and regional security is the way. If the soldiers and police guarding Zamfara state, Katsina state etc are indigenes of the state and employed by the state govt, there is no way they will allow rascal Fulani bandits to be killing them anyhow.

An arson attack, followed by intermittent shootings, has been reported near the Elesekan/Bogije bus stop. According to reports, an Okada rider was shot and killed by a policeman from the command who took the body into the station, however, angry okada riders stormed the station and set it ablaze. The situation on remains highly volatile.

A policeman shot dead an okada rider on the mainland again this afternoon. Why can't police on patrol be giving pistol sef Why must they carry an assault rifle?

Decentralisation of the Nigerian police is now so necessary. State Governors ban Fulani heardsmen from roaming about with their cows, FG dey talk say their action is unconstitutional... But a southerner won't be allowed to drink beer or eat pork meat peacefully in Sokoto.

We need state police, they can be under the state judiciary. A lot of works needs to be done on the constitution.

GEJ should have made working on a new constitution a priority. This country can never get better.

I remember the days of Yardua vision 2020, we are in 2021, yet, not a single vision of his have not been achieved.

A situation whereby a COAS will wake up, and start one yama yama operation should be also looked into.

In fact, in the restructuring, soldiers should also be in barracks in their geopolitical region and any operation that will be carried out in a certain state or region must first be approved by the state governor of the state.

So we will know who to hold responsible in a situation that happened during the massacre of armless civilians by the military in conjunction with the Lagos state government led by sanwo olu.

Just like Odi massacre, no one will pay for the people that were massacred in lekki.

What a pity.

Good read. In the stop gap, Nigeria can utilize the partnership with SSTL. I remember a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite being pushed a few years back but the economy must have slowed the effort.

NigSat-X was made by Nigerian Engineers and that's over a decade past. Technology has advanced and I'm certain they can do better. How about we do a sizable number of microsats in orbit at Near Earth

The previous satellite already served their purpose. The program just needs some repurposing to help with immediate challenges
I agree, LEO satellite in constellation could help a great deal.

The Tucanos are coming with hi-tech munitions/bombs, the deal also includes training of Pilots, technicians and construction of a brand new hangar.
That's by the way you can't get 50 F-35 for $530m as you alluded to. A unit cost as high as $100m without any add-ons (Weapons etc). Unless you're talking about ABA version of F-35 that will scream your "Bluetooth device is ready to pearl" when a pilot intends flying it aside that there is no basis for comparison cost-wise.

The deal is the short changing we experienced in the procurement of those satelites.

You see, as much as politicians are our problem, the civil service is a blood sucking rugrat. This country cannot make meaningful progress until we cleanse the service of its disease.

Look closely at all the ills bedevilling Nigeria, and you would find the civil service at the nook, instigating and fanning the embers.

Just finished reading an article regarding Nigeria's Sattelites by Humangle. Even if the government has to borrow for it, they should do everything possible to get high resolution EO Sattelites. It will even reduce the frequency of ISR aircraft use and thereby giving the airforce space and time to rest and recover some lost assets.

Please can you explain how this satellite thing works. Let's say for instance a report came in today that 5 people were kidnapped 3 days ago in yobe and 10 kidnapped in delta at the same time. Would a satellite overhead Nigeria at that time be able to track from the point of the kidnap to the hideout of the kidnappers?

Enugu Police Station by klintoski(m): 9:41am
A police station in Iwollo, Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State was attacked in the early hours of Tuesday, 25th May, 2021 by unknown gunmen.

The attack a resident of the area told Journalist101 was very bloody as 4 Policemen were allegedly killed by the attackers that stormed the station in a Siena car and a bus.

The station was completely burnt down and the arms of the slain officers taken away.

"The men shot sporadically and we couldn't even sleep, as the gunshot persists, we started seeing heavy smokes. The attackers were there for more than 45 minutes if not one hour.

"When we got to the station this morning, I could count up to four dead bodies on the floor and the entire station has been razed down. Their vehicles and motorcycles were destroyed.

When contacted, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu Command Public Relations Officer promised to get back to our correspondent when he gets the full details of the incident.

Iwollo Oghe police station was commissioned in 2016 and was built by the members of the community.

Below is the video of what's left of the station and some lifeless bodies:

More details later..

Reading a book on the rescue attempt of the chibok girls, the US government was able to get an Sattelite imagery of several people being held hostage around that time. What Sattelite imagery does is to provide visual(and other types depending on the payloads of the satellites) coverage over wide swathes of land and when anything unusual is discovered, the relevant agencies will know where it occurred, the current status, what to expect there and even how it occurred.
High optics Sattelites would have been able to pick up the location of the kidnapped kankara and jangebe students and plan a reasonable rescue mission with the information provided by the Sattelites, but using it during such operations will be a gross underutiilization of the technology when you can use it to detect the camps/groups of criminals and destroy them before such criminals are able to execute such missions.
With satellite imagery, I am able to get information on the defenses of garrisoned towns in the north east.
As for the scenario you are trying to play out, I do not know if there are Sattelites capable of detecting such small numbers but numbers far more than that can certainly be picked up.

This is an satellite image of certain vehicles moving along Lagos-Ibadan express road. That isn't a live feed and I doubt the satellite used is that advanced. Now imagine the locals of chibok were able to provide the government with information on the number, types and colors of the vehicles used in the kidnap operation, don't you think a technology like this will greatly improve the chances of rescuing the girls?

I'm sure there are more advanced satellites that can provide far clearer images in live feeds.
By the time a UAV is deployed after getting such images, you will get the complete information needed to either rescue orprevent crimes.

In terms of understanding the socio-political importance of the "Space Industry", for want of better a term, and possibly related investments, it seems as if Buhari’s Nigeria is not as forward thinking as was Goodluck Jonathan’s Nigeria. Buhar’s admin is backward in this regard.

I don't know about Nigeria. But the Americans are so advanced that, they will trace where the kidnappers come from and also trace where they take the kidnapped victims to.

What a satellite does is that as it passes along its orbit it "snaps" pictures. In a vicinity of interest, it takes as much pictures of that swathe as it moves along its orbit on in that vicinity.

To have consistent eyes over a target, you either have "static" sats in Low earth orbit or you have a constellation/string of satellites that can pass that orbit with each one transmitting its own feed.

This is just a rough explanation. The only way they'd be able to track this kind of scenario you brought up is that feeds/pictures of that vicinity will be revisited and then a track from there up until the present will be followed (again subjected to the number of feeds the sats took along the track)

Hey Nigerian cum Indian it seems to be that your time of the month. People who sound condescending are actually the dunces.

Who dey talk only because of national pride. And yes we go celebrate the JF-17 who want to be blue in the face can be blue. We all remember the humiliations we suffered here cos of no true 21st Century Aircraft in NAF inventory even though the NAF before now had proven to be sub-saharan Africa's most viable Air Force and arguably Africa's most prolific in terms of hours flown in combat.

If you cannot show face then shut the trap. Nothing stops you from engaging in empirical reasoning if you really think you know. We since destroyed the southies. They've scampered for life save for one lone wolf betimes masquerading as an i.diot here.

I don't come out and talk anyhow. I know exactly the things I say and carefully worded.

You must think you are Emperor Nero to issue a desist letter but to your chagrin I dey here oya come force us believe otherwise.

What happened between India and Pakistan recently is public knowledge. However you or anyone try to spin it we all saw a captured Indian pilot shot down by the Pakistanis. Now tell us it didn't happen. In war between states optics matter and that pilot shot down and captured, publicly interrogated on live television is all the Pakistanis needed to prove they are an Air Force to be reckoned with which everyone knows they truly are aces.

If India so much as think they had an answer where was the retaliation rather the Indians sent an SOS to France come save us please.

The Indian Air Force chief is on record saying if they had Rafales Pakistan would never have retaliated and like lightning Rafales are delivered from France but guess what the Chinese has since better ideas for the Pakistani JF-17s to counter that threat which would be even more embarrassing if India try any nonsense. To China any embarrassment Pakistan can cause India is a win for China much like Taiwan for the US against China.

Oya come beat me I don talk am. Reel out your technical jangos sry jargons let's see if it meets up to scrutiny cos you think sey you know something. No bi only clueless you go see.

Arrant nonsense.
