It is a secondary school sir.

I think there is more to the story than we are being told. And it also depends on the school. Like asking 5-10 yr olds to observe a minute silence for the dead is not ideal (the OP didn't let us know if it was a secondary school or primary school or even the age group of the pupils). There is also the issue of her reaction if some students refused to participate in the prayer. And if its in the school rules that such things are not allowed then she has gone against the rules.

If u think it is perfectly normal for a teacher to go into classroom and start praying then u should also accept it is 100% normal for another teacher to go into classroom saying Allau akbar and reading the quran, and also perfectly normal for a teacher to go into the classroom dressed like babalawo spraying powders in the air all in the name of praying for Nigeria. The last time I checked Nigerians have the right to any religion. U can't criticize one and embrace the other. This is why reli

This country is turning to something else and i dont think Nigeria can ever balance again, my cousin who works in a private school got back home after the proprietress sacked her for asking the student to pray for the redemption of Nigeria, and also telling the student to observe a minute silence for the COAS and the military personnel that lost their life in the plane crash.

nice one.....na wetin me self go do....will sack the idiot.....Is praying part of her job description? Your religion is your fucking private shit....... say your prayers at home or at your religious houses.....

He may be that either the owner of the school is from JEHOVAH WITNESS OR A BIAFIAN... Sacking of the teacher is uncalled for... She would have been given strict warning instead. If there is no peace that school will not exist. So praying for the peace of the nation can not be over emphasized. undecided
so it’s the prayer that will bring peace ? What’s wrong with Nigerians? Those kids might have prayed individually at their various homes... but No... Nigerians must involve religious brouhaha in all they do...

Lool what yeye enemy of the nation she is there to teach the students not to open another church branch there are companies that dont allow religious activities cause its a sensitive issue in Nigeria as individuals practice different faiths. so next time if shes so keen about using prayer to solve Nigerias problem let her go to the mountain on sunday and fast for 40 days to prove her faith for a divine solution to Nigerias problem as if all the prayer and multiple conventions have ever worked.

abi u want to tell me that school also doesn't allow the students to recite the Anthem? or the Pledge?

so it’s okay if all the staff decides to force the students to pray in their various belief systems... or is she the only staff there.

I am certain this is not the whole story. She might have forced the students to do it, even those whose religious background do not permit it.

A minute silence for the dead is diabolic! Praying for a dead thing is crazy!

Who does she think she is to hijack someone's school curriculum and be directing other people's children to observe a minute silence for COAS? Is she the kid's parents or the school director?

Even though you didn't revealed exactly what transpired, let me throw out some few points..
1. Your cousin is not intelligent, she is not smart at all. Common sense would have let her or her propone what the proprietress believe in. The proprietress owns the school and not your cousin, hence she is not at liberty to run or control it any how.
Remember, prayers too are relative. The woman might not believe in one Nigeria or Nigeria governance.

2. Her divergent political views with the proprietress should have been noticed by her.
Most times u ask questions when one don't know what her boss supports.
Lastly, they might have been some underlings fracas ur cousin has with the proprietress.

I blame your cousin, what one sees as good prayers is a curse for others.

As a Christian I really hate this practice in the workplace, I pray by myself silently when I get to work, It shouldn't involve anybody else. Work should be for work and religious gatherings are for prayers, because It equally means If I get a job in Dubai or Qatar, i will have to be reciting the prayers with Muslims daily.

Anytime I am passing through First Bank HQ in Marina, I usually think the place is a Church, because I hear people praying so loudly, It feels awkward.

What annoys me is that, upon all the office prayers, those same colleagues will be busy sleeping with each other. Meeting up for drinks and sleep overs after work. You ask for appraisal, the same people would hide your file or delete your email.

The school did the right thing if your cousin was previously warned to stop.

Also, let me remind you that Americans pray to their god (Jesus) which their ancestors created but your cousin most likely believe in a foreign god called Jesus or Yahweh or Muhammad or Allah (unless he/she) prayed to an African God. So, Americans praying to God is not the same as your cousin praying to God.
