Funny how we haven't heard from Amnesty International. When these A-holes start getting murded, then they will wake up and complain.
you'd think by now all police stations over there would have been fortified by now, but nope. life is too cheap for that side.
Those police are trying, they have upgrade .
Apart from the last 2 hit on their station they have been doing well. The issue now is that those UGM do come in packs of packs and sometimes do have the element of surprise

The so called ‘Unknown Gunmen’ (UGM) that were seen in Owerri metropolis today weren't unknown guumen, locals were even busy hailing them

South East residents should ask some cogent questions from North East resident. I don’t expect sane people to support evil under any disguise.

Element of surprise...?
That's what the are trained for. No criminal will come knocking before attacking. So they should expect the surprise.

With the current man power of our police, they can't successfully defend each station across the east. What I expect is from them to vacate every station and consolidate their man power in protecting the state HQ. Cos right now, the are spread so thin and can't effectively defend themselves. So instead of loosing more men in an already lost battle, they should consolidate and defend the HQ.

One of the things compounding safety issues for the police, is the way they handle relationship with the masses, the masses hate( I intentionally didn't use dislike) the police.
An average Nigerian has no problem watching the police been assaulted.
One of the ways to nip this this attacks that an intelligent person predict would soon spread to other regions I think stations were burnt in Lagos and Niger state, is for the police to immediately change their civilian-polce relationship. Be more active in their duty of protecting the masses, and prosecution of erring officers, they should stop acting like slave drivers.
These peace of advice(s) while good for the general masses, will help police personnel live longer .

To have consistent eyes over a target, you either have "static" sats in Low earth orbit or you have a constellation/string of satellites that can pass that orbit with each one transmitting its own feed.

Geostationary orbit (GEO) - in this orbit satellites stays constantly above one particular place over earth. Generally used by communication & earth observation satellites

Low Earth orbit (LEO) - satellites orbits orbiting between 160-1000 km altitude falls under LEO orbit. In LEO orbit max time during which the satellite is above the local horizon for an observer on the Earth is upto 20 min. Generally used by remote sensing satellites

Medium Earth orbit (MEO) - orbits anywhere between LEO and GEO. Generally used by navigation satellites

Polar orbit - Satellites in polar orbits usually travel past earth from north to south passing roughly over the poles. In polar orbit a satellite in 24 hr can map entire earth. Generally used by reconnaissance satellites

Polar sun-synchronous orbit - it is a type of polar orbit. Satellites in this orbit travelling over the polar regions are synchronous with the Sun. This means the satellite always visits the same spot at the same local time. Generally used by imaging satellites

LOL, we are sitting here discussing hypothetical situations without considering all factors that may be responsible for either failure or success. You will get to such position with an honest mind and ready to change things but you will be humbled by the people.
Let the president of US or China or whichever country come here to lead in this same system and they will be rendered useless. There is a reason why those of high credibility and honor avoid governance if they won't be given absolute power. By the time bureaucrats alone finish with you, you will be disinterested in the position.

I have seen men who after attempting to change things in their various sectors have died mysteriously. Now it might be unrelated to the issue but it has happened far to many times for this to be coincidence.
There are far too many powerful people earning from the status quo to allow you to change things. Who told you that these police officers being killed are interested in being "protected". How many orders of various IGPs have been flouted? If you get to the bottom of the matter, it might shock you beyond what you've ever experienced before. The last IGP performed brilliantly in UN missions outside the country, he became very useless when he was made the head of his country's police force. And that is how it is in other sectors too.

The first 2 years of Buhari's administration, EFCC and other law enforcement agencies were jumping around arrrmesting several corrupt people, why did they suddenly become mellow? How many of those arrested and charged to court have been convicted? When this man started arresting corrupt judges what was the popular reaction? When he wanted to establish special court for prosecuting corruption, what happened?.
Solutions have been provided to our problems by very smart people from within and without.
These solutions have been abandoned because it doesn't suit the interest of some people. A few examples are Orosanye report, 2014 confab, Dora Akuyili's fortification and supplementation programs to decrease nutritional deficiency and so many others. Even the military solutions we sit down here to provide ; Government received far more practical advice from experts both local and foreign.
If you know the truth about so many things, you will be humbled.

Please can you explain how this satellite thing works. Let's say for instance a report came in today that 5 people were kidnapped 3 days ago in yobe and 10 kidnapped in delta at the same time. Would a satellite overhead Nigeria at that time be able to track from the point of the kidnap to the hideout of the kidnappers?

If a satellite was over that region and it took a snap of the area and if the resolution of the satellite is sufficient to discriminate humans than one can judge the composition, direction of movement etc

Satellite doesn't track perse, generally human operators need to plot the track by studying the images sent by the satellite on each revisit
How much of a complete picture one will get is anyone's guess, human intuition will come into play

Geo satellites can provide continuous coverage over a select area & hence helpful to track but i am yet to hear of GEO satellites with resolution low enough to discriminate humans

LEO satellites have that resolution but they have revisit time, even with multiple satellites passing through, there might be gaps in continuous coverage , nevertheless its the best option

To discriminate humans AFAIK satellite will need resolution <10cm or rather 5cm

Theoretically its feasible but practically a tough ask

IMO only Americans are in any position to do that and even than they will struggle

The amount of data generated will be overwhelming , the computing power needed to process them will be mind boggling , even if one manages to process them how will one reference the huge amount of data to isolated and random events ?

Fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have sustained their aggressive onslaught against the Abubakar Shekau’s faction of Boko Haram, killing and arresting some of the rival sect’s Commanders and terrorists, Sources familiar with happening among the terrorists groups have said. They also captured some top Commanders of the Shekau faction like Mustapha Krimima Jaysh, Ba’akaka, Malkin Tijjani, Hirasama and Mallam Ballu who refused to surrender and attempted to escape.

The Sources said a large number of terrorists on gun trucks were recently sighted at Marte, East of Tumour, Tumbumma and Tumbuktu Triangle in Sambisa, after a heavy gun battle of supremacy between ISWAP and Shekau’s Boko Haram fighters at Garin Malam. Meanwhile, series of meetings are being held in Sabeel Huda camp in the heart of Sambisa forest between ISWAP Commanders and other surrendered senior Boko Haram members.]

It was gathered that the fate of the arrested Boko Haram Commanders and fighters would be decided by Albarnawy’s disciplinary Committee, headed by one Muhammad Malumma, ISWAP’s Chief Judge. The ISWAP leadership has vowed to eliminate all terrorists belonging to the Shekau group if they refuse to surrender. An intelligence operative disclosed that an intercepted communication between two leaders of ISWAP indicated that a committee led by one Abu-Mosad Albarnawy, a self-proclaimed appointee of Amirul Mu’uminoon, (ISIS Caliphate Leader) had dissolved all formations and structures of Shekau’s Boko Haram in an aggressive raid in Sambisa Forest, recently. It further revealed that the fight is being coordinated by the Wali of ISWAP, one Muhammad Dawud, who is also known as Abu Hafsat, with four other ISWAP Fiye (Service Chiefs), and Khalids, (Commanding Officers) from Lake Chad, Timbuktu and Marte. According to the operative, the ISWAP Service Chiefs and its Commanding Officers are all under the supervision of Abu-Mosad Albarnawy, who is coordinating the mission

. Multiple sources reported that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau had died or mortally wounded in a confrontation with ISWAP fighters, a group that separated from Shekau’s Boko Haram in 2016. The Nigerian military has not offiong confirmed the reports but said it is investigating.

You even forgot to add extra judicial killings, picking up random people on the road and framing them up for what they know nothing about..some of the people killed and labelled ugm are just innocent people they picked from the road and killed..tell me how would the relatives of these people ever forgive the police...!! There is a case making round now of a guy who came for his in law's burial from PH and was picked and paraded as arrested gun man...!! The police need change their ways and work themselves into the heart of the people..that's when they would be truely safe...!! These circle of killing innocent people picked randomly would further aggravate the matter on ground...!!

Heavy shooting in Owerri as Unknow GUNMEN Reportedly Set Orji Police station Ablaze

This is gradually getting out of hands
True federalism, like is been practised in the USA or the way the UK is been run will end most of this madness in Nigeria.

Imagine southern Governors banning open grazing, and an ordinary presidential spokesperson they release a press statement challenging Governors authority.

Is just so funny, in this 2021, make cows roaming about or not dey be one of the major topics been talked about in a country grin

Other state that are being hit consistently already have a framework that they work with that have been helping the police in that area push back until back up arrive .
But Enugu didn't because it was not expected to happen in that state most especially that police station because it was built by the community and most of the officers their are their people.
Enugu has always been peaceful

What are police officers even doing with grenade...
They should have smokes, flash bang and other non lethal stuffs for crowd control. This is wrong armament for officers not in counter terrorism unit.
And considering the theatre of operations, which is populated, grenades should even be at the bottom of their necessaries

The alpha jet is the workhorse of the NAF, in the course the 11 years insurgency, they've flown several thousand hours. How long until these few aircrafts reach their service span limit? What if they've actually passed it? Same as the beechcrafts.

Before now, we've had very little crash in the 11 years insurgency. If these series of crashes are due to poor maintenance culture, does that mean the lack of incidents in the last few years have been due to luck?

NAF pilots have one of the longest flight experience and training in Africa. So poor training is out of it. If it were training, we would have lost more than 10 within a year considering how frequently they fly.

They weren't flying so often then, the Beachcroft was bought in 2014.

If it's not then it's a very bad idea to have pilots flying fighters and transport at the same time.
