Greetings everyone on this noble platform, I do greatly want to thank everyone for the insight you all share On this forum.

Pls I have a situation and humbly seek your advice.

I am making plans to relocate with my family to the UK , but my worry is what tangible job will I be doing. Don't get it wrong pls... I can actually do any hustle to survive as long as its legit, but for how long?

I am a certified accountant but currently running an interior designing company. Humbly am not doing bad in the business . Even in my absence, the company can still be running well in Nigeria.
My wife is a nurse so getting a job from here won't be an issue. But no man wants to rely Completely on he's wife... No.

My problem is : 1) Can I run an Ict certification course here before leaving?

2) If yes, what ICT course do you think is viable in the UK?

3) IF I'm to work in the care home (for a start) can I undergo an NVQ level course here in Nigeria?

Sorry if my write up is lengthy. I just start and propel my career all over instead of being a liability in the UK.

That law was repealed in 2013. June 2013. Previously, retailers are mandated to report purchase of new TV. But from June 25, 2013, the law was repealed.

I agree with the comments on Indians... they know how to hold children with a grip. They make them not ashamed to eat the food, Speak the language, wear their outfit but the ones that blows my mind...some even convince their kids to do arrange marriage. .. welldone to them. We have people that came barely 5 mins ago they say they cannot eat Eba or that ogbono soup is smelling

I met like 3 indians who are my mates , privately schooled here in the 90s. Their parents were not rich but hussled hard because they didn't play with education. However for us , the demand from sending money back home will not even let us rest . Although I think we naija are begining to realise say home troubles no dey finish so focus . Focus on your nuclear family here .....

My 2 kids went to private Nurseries in their younger days and throughout their nursery and school run pre / after school club times, i never once saw an Indian or Asian kid at those nurseries or after school clubs and this is because for the indians the only english the kids listen to is from their teachers at govt run compulsory schooling and once they get back from school english stops and their own language kicks in until the next school session.

They bring their grand mothers who most times can not speak nor understand a word of english to baby sit their kids and look after them after school meaning that their kids never lose their culture or language.

On top of this, the Indians for a large part do not watch English speaking TV as they only watch Indian language TV and news channels once they are in their homes and the UK has quite a lot of Indian TV channels they can choose from.

The divorce rate amongst Asians in the UK is very low compared to Africans and the reason is their strong holding onto their culture.

I had a friend whose wife told him on their way from church that he should remove the Sunny Ade music he was playing in the car as she did not want their sons English to be as bad as his own as she feels his English was worsened by his listening to Sunny Ade music. Compare and contrast this to the Indians holding on to their culture and who go to great lengths to pass it on to their children.

Funny but true... an Indian friend who was born in UK in the 70s told me how his father used to go to India yearly and bring at least one or two relatives, this happened in the 70s and 80s claiming they are his children. ..... back then no DNA test. He said Christmas day was always the best for that waka as there was hardly any staff at the airport..... I trust his father wasn't the only one doing this, maybe that why you see so many of them in the UK.

Try and master Java Programming or any other Top Programming Language before leaving Naija and if possible pass the certification exam before leaving Nigeria and half of your work problems is sorted before you leave Nigeria. In the interim before you get an ICT job you could try your hands at barbing (which you can learn before leaving Naija if you are artistic).

Care work job for a man is not something I as a man would do and i would rather drive a cab or work as a security guard instead. If you have a work permit, you can work as a delivery driver delivering food if you quickly pass the UK theory and practical driving licence tests.

But nothing beats getting an ICT job soon after you land in the UK (possible as long as you master a programming course preferably Java with certification exam passed before you leave Nigeria)

Its not easy for a married man relying on his wife as the bread winner in any country talk less of a strange country.

Also don't bring all your savings to the UK as you may need to dip into them from abroad if a job doesn't surface quickly n the UK and having that source of cash in Naija that you can call upon in times of shortage can be the difference between your wife continuing to respect you or seeing you as a loser and calling the cops to kick you out in the middle of the night so that she can claim single parent benefits (if she is entitled to such)

And btw don't waste your early months relying on getting an Accounting job as that field is oversubscribed in the UK with too many unqualified accountants getting a lot of the jobs based on job experience whilst there is a skills shortage of ICT staff especially Java and other top quality programming languages.

I have a Bangladeshi colleague aged 29 who has borrowed £10,000 twice now to send to his Brothers in Bangladesh to process their USA emigration Visa and he is not expecting anything back from them as all he wants is for them to escape poverty.

He himself was brought to the UK aged 13 by his uncle and i remember when his dad died back home he flew to Bangladesh that night even though he didn't have a dime, his cousins paid for his ticket and when he bought a house, some of his cousins contributed towards his deposit and he will do the same for them when the time comes as according to him, it is their culture.

Compare this to Nigeria where a more well off family member will almost turn his or her own siblings to slaves and will expect them to worship him or her for the peanuts they get from him or her and they will forever be reminded how they were assisted by him or her and the richer a Nigerian is, the more heartless and wicked they become.

Your hands on experience will stand you in good stead but if you can learn some Java programming too it will be VERY helpful. What ever you do, learn as much ICT skills before you leave Nigeria.

Job boards such as indeed.co.uk will show you what skills are in demand and tailor your learning accordingly. All in all its a hard graft here in the UK even for those with years of experience and whatever you do bring as much money as you can if you are not in the UK already as you don't want to depend financially on already stressed relatives friends who can throw you out onto the streets if they perceive that you are stressing them in any way.

The stress in the UK is not for the faint hearted and is UNRELENTING so prepare your mind to work harder than you've ever done in your life if you are to get a job and keeping the job is a different kettle of fish where office politics, subtle racism, etc may creep in if you are unlucky.

Best of luck but be prepared to work your socks off.

You did write that you are a certified Accountant. Don’t you want to further your accounting career? there are loads of accounting jobs and you can school and work at the same time. If you’re lucky you might get a firm who will pay for your exams.

This can’t work in Nigeria because both sides of the equation are advantage takers. It also involves a lot of humility this is lacking in Nigeria in large doses. There is a false sense of entitlement to a relatives income without giving anything in return by lazy Nigerians that’s why this can’t work in the typical Nigeria set up. Maybe in the northern part where there is a bit of cooperation amongst themselves, less greed and humility but not in the south.
