Your shoe making can earn something but only during summer when the weather is warmer and you could sell them then at your church, mosque or local Nigerian restaurant / beer parlour but generally people walk faster in the UK than we do in Nigeria (maybe because of the cold) and most people white or black wear covered shoes or boots with socks most of the year round as this is more practical.

Having said that, what can earn you money year round irrespective of weather is barbing, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrician, bricklaying etc but Naija plumbing will not cut it in the UK as you have to be certified by a Govt body to be a plumber in the UK as you will be dealing with Gas fittings and expensive boilers which the Govt regulates very closely to prevent deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning by shoddy plumbing work which can land the plumber in jail for causing death by negligence.

What has mode of dressing got to do with having parents or otherwise? Do you really expect anyone to dress like a masquerade in this hot weather? Dressing is largely dependent on the climate/weather, not parents or the lack of one. When I remember all the suit and tie I wore in the hot Naija climate and how I used to sweat like Christmas goat those years back, I just couldn’t but laugh so hard

Below are 2 scenarios/Example (Child A and Child B)

Child A goes to university and graduates . He/she is already indebted to the government (student loan). He would find it almost impossible or at least 7/10 years of savings before he can get on the property leader.

On the other hand, Child B goes into an apprenticeship and within 3/4 years he/she has gained experience and possibly is a supervisor/ manager. He has no debt and can quickly get on the property leader.

Child A is searching for suitable jobs but isn’t lucky because he lacks experience. When he finally get a jobs, he meets child B as his supervisor/manager.

In conclusion unless your child is gifted academically, don’t force university into there head just to boost your ego amongst your peers. University doesn’t guarantee success.
These days you can go to university even when you are 80 (obansanjo et al..)
