In my own opinion, if a driver is going to be kept waiting for more than 5mins, he should be told about it. But we know that would never happen. What you'll hear is, "I'll be right down". And then when you call after 5mins, you'll hear, "Oh, are you here already? Don't worry you'll see me now."

For me, the only time I'll wait for more than 5mins is if;
i. It's a long trip.
ii. It's a 'good destination' (Good road network + No traffic).
iii. It's a surge trip (preferably 1.9 wink )
iv. Everywhere is dry (Not more than 10mins on this one).

Bottom line is, when requesting a ride you can actually see the number of drivers in your vicinity. If there are lots of drivers in your area, and you are not ready, don't request, as a driver may just be at your gate already.

You just said it like a true driver, you do what works for you. We all can wait for 20, 30 mins as long as the trip is everything. I think everything both bad and good works for a purpose. My driving style these days is more of the lazy driver type, mainland to island, 3 or 4 trips on the island, then back to mainland, so I have enough room to give riders time to mess up outside my first and last trip pending on traffic situation and we all know early morning riders barely take time, it's that aunty queeneth that is going to the mall or want to go see one man that will take all d time in the world and still bring make up kit to the car. I've nurse the tot of removing that up mirror they use to pull and caught them of guide grin let me see if that will make them end the trip or they will stretch neck to view from side mirror.

Sometimes I give them time to mess up to the point of them not even believing it. Awww! U r not angry I took ur time, so cute! Me we just b looking like, madam free me, I don't need someone to spoil my day or mood, I just want to focus on what I set out to achieve and from there convo starts, we both enjoy our trip. But for those that we enter, no sorry, no courtesy, just bone face and b pressing phone. May d gods help them to forget something in the car, whatever binds us is from pick up to destination, after that nothing concerns me with what they forgot, they should find their way to get it, ain't moving an inch for manner- less folks.

davit, let me tell you why some people order ahead. Sometimes it can take up to 20-30 minutes for a driver to arrive and you have no idea before you book what it will be.

E.g. in the US it usually takes 2-7 minutes to get a ride so I usually book about 5 minutes before I think I'll be ready. When I went to Italy, I did the same and had to wait almost 40 minutes past midnight for a ride!! From then, the whole trip I would order 15-30 minutes before I was ready. I suspect that is what is happening. Some people (especially ladies) are anticipating waiting a long time in an undesirable place and taking measures to avoid that.

If the arrival time before u request says 30mins... that's fine, u can request 30minutes ahead of your departure time. but if u see "driver arrives in 5mins" and u aren't going to be ready in 30mins, it's not fair to make driver come.
In this country even when u get stuck on your way to PU and spend longer than expected, u will still go and wait for morethan 5mins.

Don't mind Pearl1910. @Pearl1910 as much as I wish my bolt and uber is up and kicking now. A 1.4 surge can't still b compare to indriver on a normal good day, we've been there and done did it. Those days of fixing 3MB, if you take a trip of 3 to 4hrs to magodo phase 2 on a surge of 1.5 is 5k and they will still remove 25% and you will b left with 3.750k. The only time you will get 7 to 9k doing 4hrs is on 1.9 to 2.0 surge and take away 25%, what's the difference?

I'm heading home, took someone along my route, prolly 10 mins away from my doorstep for 4500 (that's even d last option on d bidding range after dragging for almost an hr) and the commission is willingly, what else do u think I should long for? You said with fuel, do u use water for urs?

Exactly what I want to say when I'm up... we should cut riders some slack, 10 mins wait is not bad. The only difference here for me is the wait on Indriver e.g early morning trip from mainland to island or close hour trip where a rider books a ride from 4:35 cos he or she knows by 5pm everywhere will be red and now the driver gets there 3 mins after booking. Meaning driver have to wait till 5 and end up doing trip that's is supposed to be 1 hr for 2 hrs, that's not fair.

having said this, I feel drivers should take that waiting time of a thing easy and understand from the view of the riders if it's not intentional, If riders can wait for 10, 15min's for drivers to arrive, so what's the big deal if a driver is found at the other end? The only thing I tell riders and it's because of how volatile indriver can be, is to tell them the ET to destination and if the changes doesn't commiserate with the price due to delay from them, then I'm sorry, I'll have to abort mission.

Pope, Driver and Rider contract starts from the point a driver accepts the trip and starts driving towards rider. So I am already waiting for the trip to start while driving to PU, sometimes this may take 10mins, now, to get to PU, and inform Rider that I am outside, only to be kept waiting for an additional 10minutes is unacceptable...when the app companies that respect Riders more than Drivers have given u freedom to cancel after 5mins or receive waiting fee then there is no argument about it again.

This has happened to me before, dropped a rider at idado estate set destination trip for abule egba, request came in Omole estate 1.5 surge, she was shocked when she called and I told her I was at her gate. I had to wait over 10 mins cos I had the company of another pilot who was telling me his story of how a woman blessed him with 50k for a trip.

Only Book when you're ready. It has been stated here that mostly expats and non-nationals will book and be waiting for you already, you can't wait for a non-national for 5mins. No I never see am before!

In my early days that was how some girls booked my ride, travelers lodge Sango-tedo, destination was university estate Abraham Adesanya. I got to PU, after waiting for 10mins I went inside the hotel to meet them fighting. the guy wey bring the girls come don run, money no dey to pay, told the girls am the Uber guy you ordered and am still waiting. she said please Oga we will be thru in less that 5 mins. After another 10mins, we still dey there, I no know when i begin settled fight.

I spent about 40mins there before I realized I have been jonsing.

Indriver is a crazy app, can b use for different purpose and a ride is never actual on Indriver. Some has taken 2k from island to ikeja and won't stop trying from the moment they are set to enter the bathroom, till they are ready, that's when they will accept a reasonable price. Some book ahead before traffic, cos they know the price will shot up and keep you waiting till when they are ready.

We get sense for this country grin nah our forefather's sins just they disturb us
Thats how I accepted 3800 for a trip from unilag to oko oba drove over 30mins from that bariga justrite to unilag, when there's thick surge on bolt, she just dey beg, I accepted bit e pain me small, from her end I saw better offer with 1.7 surge yesterday mad gan, I just went offline on indriver as dem wan kill me with requests. Bolt all the way, dem too sabi this business.

It’s raining and there is no surge in Lekki phase 1 , I’d rather stay put than drive through those Lekki lagoons for stipends.
Meanwhile make I drop this gist here

Yesterday I started the hustle (I started very late though) with a resolution that no matter how tempting an order to mainland is I wouldn’t take it, in the process and amidst other blacklisted destinations my cancellation rate shoot up to 65%. Then I said to myself I have to stop canceling orders now

Few minutes later a request came in, not far from where I parked. Destination Lekki phase1, pick up Cmart admiralty way.

Just before heading to pick up, I called rider I’m outside already (don’t want her delaying me for long for a ride of #500) she said she’ll join me in a minute. Drove down to pick up, still no sign of rider. 5 minutes later I called again,
Rider: I’m checking out now I’ll be with you shortly (I was already fuming but I been no wan spoil my gentleman, so I kept it cool)

10 minutes later I called again
Rider: I don’t know why this guy is this slow, but I’m next on the queue, will be out soon
5 minutes later still no sign of rider

A thought of zooming off in anger crossed my mind, but then I thought would she really understand the gravity of what she did if I zoomed off? So I made sure my doors was on lock and waited till this daughter of eve came out

Some minutes later, Saw her through my rare mirror checking out my plate for confirmation, then she proceeded to open the back door but oops! It’s locked
Came a little forward to the passenger side window to knock, I looked at her with a smiling face and wind down a bit. These were my exact words to her
‘’Oh! You’re finally out (she said sorry bla bla bla....please your door is locked) you see that wait wey you been no wan wait, you go wait am. You wasted my time but it’s fine (she said but I’ve apologized now) It will just be nice to give you a doze of your own medicine’’
Put my gear in reverse and screed off ( saw her standing with her shopping bags, looking at the car in awe through my side mirror)

Payback is a b**tch.
Chop knuckle my brother grin

Exactly the same thing I said but you disagreed. I said from the guy's narration, the lady too was waiting on the queue, she must have calculated how long it would take her to be thru with payment so she ordered her ride ahead but unfortunately the cashier was slower than she calculated. I don't support the act of riders keeping drivers waiting unnecessarily, I've also cancelled several times. but there are always exceptions in everything.
To add to this, I've done something similar to a lady before, she put a wrong number but the same street and instead of her to apologize she was just shouting keep driving up why are you so slow, it got to a point I had to shout back at her. I later saw her by the road side and drove pass her slowly, she was still waving me down, I was like is this one mad? After all the altercations you still want me to embark on the trip so you can destroy my rating grin

Bros don't get too high on your supply, no b today, that trip I took and the fear is ohk. If you don't know how indriver work, you don't have to over flog this case. On bolt or uber surulere from berger is always 1700 to 2k without surge, but on indrive u will get 2600 to 2800 everyday. On bolt or uber, surulere to vi can go as 1k to 1.3k, but on indriver u can still push for 1.8k to 2k. I'm talking of days free from traffic, so enjoy both the pros and cons, the basic thing is meeting your weekly target with less stress.
