Does Tv Programmes Affect Iq?? by Vinnie2000(m): 12:04am On Jun 13, 2021 |
Good-day Nairalanders!! Straight to the Topic Most times, I hear some Educated or Well-to-do Persons saying 'I don't like Yoruba films, Zeeworld, Africa Magic or BBNaija because it reduces my IQ i.e Intelligence Quotient or I don't want it to Affect the IQ of my Kids!! Am particularly concerned for young Children... Some kids watch Cartoons stations (Jimjam, Nickleodeon) While some kids, even@Young age focus on Zeeworld!! In d place I work, One woman and her kids watch only Africa magic epic station, even it's a repeated movie!!. Then I visited a Family who watch ONLY MercyTV (Prophet Jeremiah aka Owomowomo) with their children!! Asking this for the sake of Parents n Upcoming Parents!! Do the programmes children watch have effect on their Brain Capacity development?? Will Children watching Certain stations/programmes become very Intelligent Or it does not Matter.. Need Answers Please!! Lalasticlala, Mynd44..Please move to Front-page!! Thank You!! |

Yes, and no. If your child or an adult watches stupid telly they are likely to be stupid, and if they watch good telly they could be smart because telly watching kind of programs the mind, same as books. Quality matters. I'm not a fan of Nollywood, but my sister who is highly intelligent and speaks much better Yoruba than I can tells me she learnt it watching Nollywood and I am envious. I know someone who watches a lot of evangelism, but we can't talk much because she swears by the miracles and believes they raise the dead. Odd enough I went to visit her in a hospital a couple if months ago and was tempted to ask why I wasn't visiting her in a church. I personally can't see how bbnaija could possibly beat a good book or any book for that matter, but I guess I'd never know as I've never watched Naija's or UK's or anywhere's at all for that matter. In fact, in the days it was on and I was flicking channels, my telly yelled, "what the fuq" if I didn't flick away quick time, and it would sulk for weeks even if I did. I know a child who watched a lot Teletubbies as a baby. Her first language was teletubbic and was very annoying indeed. She went on to write her first book by 8 years old, and a fine intelligent book it is too. On the other hand the same sort of programs could kill some peoples brain cells forever, as you might figure from the below. budaatum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZCgbGgA-_8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3ZJ0oITwpM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqyziA30whE |

Yes. The kind of TV programmes you expose your children to during their formative years affects their IQ and their moral behavior. I remember growing up, we watched educative TV programmes like Kiddie vision 101, "speak out" and a host of other educative programms those days. All these helped to build our IQ level and helped us academically too. Then there was also storyland and Tales by moonlight that taught us morals and other values that helped shaped our lives to large extent to make us what and who we are today. The good thing is such programmes were devoid of immoral and indecent contents. Now, these days, the kind of programmes children are allowed to see do not help or encourage the development of their IQ and this is affecting them so much in their academics. I'm a teacher so I know what I'm saying. They can download all the names of the characters in these movies from "amulet" to red rangers" but ask them what is a digraph? or to articulate the sound of digraph "ch", they start looking like lucozade. And this is something youve taught them repeatedly. It's that bad Now, after watching movies like power rangers, they begin to use their siblings to practice kicking and boxing. Or is it the immoral bbnaija show, zee world and telemundo that everyone sits to watch including a 3year old? That after watching, the children go behind doors and begin to kiss mouth to mouth? So, the kind of programs they watch have effect on their IQ. |

Vinnie2000: Examples of what? Programs that kill brains? Anything you sit down and gullibly watch or read without applying the ability to critique will kill your brain. Examples can be found in the following threads: https://www.nairaland.com/6601346/scam-seed-sowing-exposed#102683387 https://www.nairaland.com/6584597/king-kong-movie-reveals-flat The second link shows what one might become. |
