Must everybody set up an office in Nigeria? Is Nigeria the only country in Africa? Is there any law that says you must establish an office in a particular country?

I thought Facebook has an office in Nigeria, as well as other tech companies? Must everything come to Nigeria?

How I wish twitter will take their office to Nigeria, so Ghana and Ghanaians can breath. Enough of this persistent insults. How is it the fault of Ghanaians that twitter decided to establish its Africa office in Ghana?

Taye4j:
Twitter should be compelled to have an office in Nigeria, they make the highest incone in Africa from Nigeria and as such must open an office here. It's an aberration to ditch Nigeria for Ghana. For crying out loud, Ghana has just 3million users while Nigeria has over 40million users.

Twitter mistake:
America is not Nigeria
Just because you ban Trump and some right wing conservative without consequences in the US does not mean you can ban Buhari tweets without having consequences in Nigeria.

Yea, I know they are good with pharmaceuticals and programming. But still poverty is rife in India and overpopulation. Something they share in common with Nigeria.

Uncommon Common Sense.

Like I said last week, the ban is bad business for everybody. Nigerian users are affected, FG international agencies image is dented in the west and Twitter losses lots of users and also its invisibility.

If the ban is prolonged, Nigerians will find alternative platforms, FG will find a way to launder its batteries image and more countries will ban Twitter if it doesn’t change the way it is currently operating. Whatever is the case, this is not looking good for Twitter.

He believes fiat is the cause of global poverty and bitcoin the solution.

Having seen the Nigerian twitter traffic and bitcoin transactions, he simply wants to use dumbass Nigerian's as a test case.

It is only in your fantasy that 'Jack care less'. It's either you have not been following the news or your primordial sentiment and hatred for Nigeria just made you to be blinded to facts.

It doesn't seem to occur to you that it's only very few individuals with insignificant numbers of followers that still uses VPN to access twitter or tweet. Big law-abiding companies especially in highly regulated industry like financial institutions, radio and television stations, telecommunication companies, many other corporate organizations and high net worth celebrities with hundreds of thousands or even millions of followers have all complied with the government on twitter ban.

If you like write a book, I have made my point already. Just pray Nigeria don't go the way of Venezuela. Already it is has started. Once sanctions coming you will understand the game. If you don't, your bank account will make you understand.

Most Nigerians don't read. Have you ever read Twitter rules and regulations?
You still didn't answer his question.... Where is the freedom of speech if you continue to talk of freedom of speech and at the same time reporting people comments to be deleted? grin

Yes o.... Their rules and regulations is based on who have the most vernomous comment that can set Nigeria on fire if not Bubu administration won't have suspended them grin

Really? From who?

I heard you guys have a whatsapp group where you discuss and decide on how to attack some selected handles. Considering the way you’ve been trolling my handle of recent, I’m curious to ask if you’re being paid to do this. To be honest, you’re doing a bad job.

You’re not the first person to troll my handle and won’t be the last. I always ignore them till they get tired and another person is assigned to troll me. You will soon get tired or fired like the others.

Have you try to study twitter policy , rules and regulation ? First, tweets must be reported before it can be flagged and possibly deleted.

Twitter is online platform. I think Nigeria is a signatory to open internet and freedom of expression as fundamental human right. Twiitter products and services can be assessed from Nigeria just like we can assess thousands of products without those companies having physical offices in Nigeria.

Twitter did not cause Rwanda genocide. There was no social media then. If there was social media, genocide might have been prevented because world would get to known about it immediately.

Reckless shooting of lekki protesters trigged waves of violence that erupted after that. It was not Twitter that first broadcasted it. People watched it in the live Instagram and the clips were shared via whatapp and Facebook. I think government should worry about whatapp and Facebook. The users of those platforms don't question source of information. Twitter users are known to question source of information. They are more mature and professional.

Government can regulate anything it wants. I am certain that if regulation is to prevent people from criticising the government , populace would find means of mobilising against it which may lead to civil unrest or war. Government should always open to discussion or use information in social media to solve problems.

Humans are borne free in all ramifications. Governments are known as oppressors. Ecc 8:9

The people you are engaging with are too dumb to think of the consequences beyond the Buhari administration.

I just hope if an opposition candidate gets elected their balls get squeezed with the same regulations.

No sane human being should support Twitter ban, if any false reports is on the platform its the duty of the users to report it to the operators for it to be taken down.. Not to outright ban it.. Freedom of speech please.

Not you Sir. Bigger businesses that contribute actual revenue.

Buhari didn't consider the fact that random regulations made without due process make Nigeria look bad for foreign tech investors, not just twitter.

Most social media are built on fundamental of human existence - freedom and liberalism. Humans love freedom and that is the reason wars are being fought. Any platform that will not guarantee freedom of expression is likely pro-government and any platform without bias for people will make people to jettison such platform.

It is now people v governments in many lands with social media on the side of the people.

You certainly cannot live in Rwanda. What is keeping the country together is the clampdown of trash talkers. Go stay dia and yarn anyhow. Body go tell you.

The genocide they experienced is still fresh in thier minds. The government will never tolerate trash talking under the guise of freedom of speech

Nigeria is not among the top 20 when it comes to Twitter, and we are still using VPN to tweet.
The Nigerian government does not have the capability to enforce a ban on any social media platform.
You mean people would subscribe to VPN just to they can tweet?

I have come to realize that most people on Nairaland don't think before they write. Most people on here kept criticizing the government (of which they aren't right to pull the plug on Twitter but also not entirely wrong to have done so considering the circumstances). Below are my few takes on Twitter:

1. It was highly disrespectful for Twitter to locate their African office outside Nigeria when at least 40% of their revenue in Africa comes from Nigeria.
2. They ought to understand the geopolitics of some countries and should not think what applies in the USA would automatically apply in Nigeria or elsewhere.

This part irritates and angers me no be small. What an insult and embarrassment?
