What do you hope to achieve by joining?
If it is money then better take any of the licensing exams and leave.
If you are genuinely passionate then give it a shot

Don't forget to give your ATM password to your wife or girlfriend. Because retrieving the dead's money from the bank is hard these days.

Why RIP? Have all those who joined d armed forces as doctors or other professions died?

Airforce is ur best bet..... flying officer salary as someone' on Mss is 340k whilst ur fellow flying officers are on 220k and that's the lowest rank as a dssc officer.. I passed on d opportunity now d country deh make me konk myself grin

Bro no more MSS allowance in Air force. It is now Medical scarce allowance , which is 49500 that cuts across all medical field in airforce plus ippis which is about 262,000 naira first year in the service as a doctor. Its not dat juicy in the airforce for doctors. In the other hand the people benefiting more in the medical field in air force are the allied health professional . Like there is no difference in Salary between a nurse , med lab scientists ,medical records and a Medical doctor

. Medical doctors in the military also join in fighting bokoharam. That fine medical doctor from Nnewi in Anambra joined the army via Direct service commission, he was sent to Borno sharp sharp as the teams doctor and given AK47. He has turned his two little children fatherless and his wife a widow. Bros reason am ooo. Even navy sef dey go fight bokoharam and our armed forces is in a shitty situation now.

Of course but you still need to wield arms. In Nigeria you can work your way out with money and connections

If its because of passion for the military , its better u join as a consultant where u will pass out as a squadron leader (2 steps ahead of a medical officer) with numerous benefits and specialist allowance.

I do not advice u to join as a medical officer. Instead gather money from PP write ur PLAB 1/2 then jakpa

They can post you to an army base in Baga, their fellow pantami soldiers will tip off boko boys on when and how to overrun the army base.
Then .....

I think u are mistaken. D medical personnel u are referring to that are attached to units on d battlefield, aren't medical doctors. When medical doctors enter d military, they enter as commissioned officers and are very unlikely to handle a weapon in battle.

D set of military personnel that are attached to battle units on d battlefield, are non commissioned officers (NCOs) who do most of d fighting. What happens is that when recruitment is done for NCOs, d recruits don't enter d military with any formal tertiary qualifications. After recruitment, they are posted to different corps in d military, like infantry, education, MP, medical, engineering and so on. There, they are trained on d various skills according to d demands of their various corps. So it's d NCOs trained in d medical corp that are attached to battle units not medical doctors

From someone who was was working in the military as a civilian doctor, shortlisted for DSSC, and declined this opportunity, take my advice.
If you don't have passion for your country and be willing to die at any time, please forget it.

I'm living my best life in the UK working for the NHS, and you should too.

Good Idea but now isn't the right time to join the NA, except you don't mind the consequences. Our government lacks equipment to fight terrorism. They're underfunded too and that's the fact these people won't tell us. They lie a lot. Baba Gana Monguno tried to unearth some facts but kept quiet after he was being threatened. Senator Ali Ndume who chairs the military committee also said he hasn't seen any soldier with a new AK47 bought out of the billions of dollar earmarked for military equipment purchases... To make the matter worse, boko haram have informants in the army. They've infiltrated our Police, Customs and Immigration too. There are likes of Pantami everywhere ( those who hold key political offices but play allegiance to the various terror groups codedly) No matter how hard you try there's a saboteur who would want to hand you over to BH at the slightest opportunity. That's why we keep praying for our brave soldiers out there.

I'd rather advise you drop this idea. You may consider working overseas like in the UK. You may ask any of your colleagues already working there on how they got recruited. Alternatively, form a group practice with your colleagues and start something. Good luck

I'll advise you join the Navy, my dad is a retired Navy Surgeon Commodore, and I can tell he enjoyed a lot of benefits compared to his peers in the Army, I don't know about Air force welfare
Your dad must have served when the NA was still an envious institution, unlike now. My cousin also is a retired Top ranking naval officer, a former military administrator to be precise. Things have changed now

Join the army.

The bigger the crowd, the better cash.

Don't look at salary, its just MSS standard.

But if you hold a command position eg even managing an MRS not to talk of a hospital, for one year is enough to pay you the equivalent of a consultants salary for 5 years.

But you gotta use your head...

If you liaise with the corps Heaquaters, your CO and finance, you'll take home almost 100 m in 5 years...

Once again, if you know you know.

First hand experience!

Depending on what you really look forward to achieve. In any case, you have a better chance (recruitment wise) in the Army than the others.

In an operational area like Maiduguri , as a medical doctor u're entitled to a rifle , cos when it happens u're expected to defend urself, no one is going to do it for you. That's the more reason they are all trained in weapon handling , field tactics and the rest
