To understand what is going on...the heart's electric rhythym is regulated by something called a pacemaker...located somewhere in the upper part of your heart (I am simplyfying things here)

Once the natural pacemaker starts giving problems..due to either genetics, heart disease, etc..., an artificial one may have to be put in place.

The problem is, the artificial one is not as sophisticated as the natural one...yet. (Technology can only mimic human function up to a point.)..so it may not be as fast responding to variances in heart rate in an active sportsman compared to the natural one.

As an active footballer...Ericksen's new pacemaker while it has saved his life...may not be able to handle the sudden changes in heart electrical activitiy that happens when he is playing football actively...so he has to retire now.

how do you know if you are Hale and healthy. You guys should stop all these crap. Even you that type this, how many times have you gone for check up in hospital to know if you are actually healthy or not. You think by sleeping at night and waking up in the morning means someone is actually healthy. Go for check up and see the results the doctor will give you Mr healthy man. Don't be suprise you that think you are healthy after doing check up doctor might say you may need heart surgery in the next 3 year.

Christian Eriksen will be fitted with an implantable device to monitor his heart rhythm, the Danish soccer federation said Thursday.

Eriksen is recovering in a Copenhagen hospital after suffering cardiac arrest during Denmark’s game against Finland at the European Championship.

The Danish federation said doctors have determined that Eriksen needs to have an ICD — implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.

”This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances,” the federation said in a statement. ”Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment. We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy the following time.”

An ICD monitors a person’s heartbeat and can send electrical pulses to restore a normal rhythm if necessary.

Netherlands defender Daley Blind still plays professionally with an ICD. He had one fitted after being diagnosed with an inflamed heart muscle in 2019.

Denmark plays Belgium in its second Euro 2020 game on Thursday. The game will feature a minute’s applause for Eriksen in the 10th minute in honor of his No. 10 national team shirt.
