Social media won’t transform lives, join politics – Osinbajo

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has charged youths in Nigeria to join politics.

Osinbajo made the call on Monday in Abuja at the maiden Progressive Youth Conference organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) youth wing.

The VP, in his speech titled, “The Future is a Decision,” said more political participation by majority youths would help them to make meaningful changes.

“It is evident just from voter-turnout alone that the vast majority of young people either do not register to vote or do not vote.

“Those who even participate at all would rather engage within the very constrained space of social media platforms or join pressure groups.”

Osinbajo stated that social media “do not transform the lives of millions for good or ill”, and added: “If you are keen on how the future will turn out, you must be involved in politics.”

Recalling that he was in a number of groups, concerned with corruption, human rights and democracy, Osinbajo said it was only in 1999 when the Alliance for Democracy won elections in Lagos that he entered into government as Attorney General.

The Vice President added that it is crucial for young Nigerians already involved in politics to influence others to also participate.

The VP advised young citizens youths not to be discouraged from joining politics because of negative sentiments associated with politics in the country.

Is that not why they are asking you to join politics and contest for public office to drive out the old men?

Sometimes I wonder what the lazy Nigerian youths want?

Is it to camp out on social media, rant, and bark like bingo instead of doing the hard work to come together, to strategize, to seek credible youths to back, support, and sponsor for elected office to change things?

...but of course, the only thing Nigerian youths know how to do is make noise and bark like lazy parrots on social media, they have zero ideas, zero solutions, just noise.

The yoruba race was not known to bred idiots, I wonder who sired this boy boy of a VP. The number of foolish people from south wáste nowadays is quite alarming.

The Governors there should start planning of building asylums to accommodate and rehabilitate these societal nuisances.

In Nigeria, politicians study the immediate audience and figure out what they'd say to appeal to them at that moment. And then it's business as usual. What the VP said is not untrue. It's just that the citizens hear such appealing statements every now and then.

Why suddenly every Nigerian politician is talking and afraid of the social media, even our darling VP....is there something they are not telling us?

Is it not this same APC that used the social media to lambast GEJ and campaign in 2015? They used thesocial media in there occupy nigeria protest in 2012...Now, they say youths should join politics when those over 70 and 80 yrs dont want to retire. Some are even 60 yrs claiming to be youths, how then do they expect the real youths to join politics!

Papa God help this country!
