Take a chill, Bros. Even some of the European megacities are often flooded. There's no big deal about that, especially if the city is not much higher than the Sea Level. Some semi-literate minds in Geography and Oceanography wouldn't know this. Flooding isn't always caused by filth and unplanned landscape. Even then, show me which city is planned or is better than Lagos in Nigeria.
Abuja

things are still as they were 12 years ago. No change whatsoever... Hmmm. I wonder who deceived the black man that he can run his own country by himself
instead of progress the country has regressed in those 12 years and for those 12 years, solely presidents have been blamed...

but it's not about "black man" it's about the prevailing culture that Nigerians have created.

Ijeshatedo residents battled heavy floods this morning after a 6-hour rainfall submerged various parts of the community.

The streets affected were mostly, ilamoye street, omolabanke street, and doyin oyeduro street, and a host of nearby streets, which were swept by the early morning rainfall that led to the floods and could be observed and verified that the major cause of the water on the streets was due to the bad drainage system and the bad road network which the itire ikate LCDA has failed to upgrade and put in proper conditions, also resulting in too many bad roads in the LCDA .

The rain also forced many residents to stay indoors, as the streets have been totally flooded and residents could not move out without entering the dirty waters to get across, so as to get to their destination.

Aba is even London now compared to this lagoon called mega city. I knew when you guys were mocking Aba, but now Aba has a very good road and good drainages.. Don't gnash your teeth again.

12 years ago? You must have been there when City center was being built. That area is something else. The houses around there, water will be sipping in from the foundation.

Many years ago,we reside in this waterside called ijesha. Whenever the sky is pregnant we would pray for it not to pour down heavily cos if it does no sleep for like 2 days..our rooms would be like swimming pool.. it was a terrible experience then..

Are you really from Lagos?
I doubt much, may be just to gain N/Land attention!
This very place- ijeshatedo,Luth and many parts of Idi- Oro have no good drainages
In fact many houses there are waterlogged and submerged,so I wander if you ever stayed there at all,
hence no need of name calling for the Excellent State.

Surulere in 1960s was not a glorified slum with blocked gutters. Please check and confirm

If other people would stay in their states and in their region instead of flooding Lagos, maybe Lagos would have improved beyond this.

Have you given that a thought?

No issue here bro na blocked drains
.

I think this blocked drain thing is beginning to wear thin. When society experiences recurring challenges it adapts and finds solutions.

Why can't government research into drainage solutions that resist or accommodate the urban malaise of household rubbish and begin a programe of implementing them starting with the most challenging locations.

Why can't we think for once. We have research sections in public works departments. They do nothing to improve their offerings. Just the same thing over and over.

It's obvious we need to start considering drainages with pumps. Not just the typical open gutter free flowing drainages.

You can imagine someone like this in a position of authority or in a position of influence or responsibility.

Instead of seeking solutions and being cerebral about challenges their minds just yield to primitive, parochial sentiment that offers nothing positive.

It's the economic nerve of Nigeria, it's not hype, it's numbers, GDP, Real estate value etc... lots of cities across the world suffer flood issues too... though the Lagos state government can do more on drainage, canals and creating reservoirs and irrigation system for water during dry season. Rain water gives us lots of water, we need to chanel water, not let it waste, let us build canals and huge reservoirs and irrigation systems. Conserve water now.
