He said he left his stable job to Dubai, got to dubai and was earning 70k, was also living in a shared accommodation with 4 people, after working for 5 months, he resigned and left Dubai for Nigeria.

2nd story

My cousin left his well paid job for Canada, sold his properties in naija and moved to Canada with his family, first 8 month of his life was hell upon earth, from bills to bills, from one low wage job to another, the neighborhood he was living with his family was infested with gangs, the public school was also infected with gangs, his children got bullied because of their accents, his wife, even though supportive couldn't get a good job, bros was tired of everything.

So he decided to solve his problem by moving back, after the scrap they could save in Canada, my guy and his family moved back to Nigeria, they had to start afresh, thank God, he had a supportive family and friends, they use their connections to help him find another good job but what is lost is lost till today he still regrets selling his properties for Canada.

That's why I rejected it for you. Do I need to tell u how much I earn? What's 150k that will come with security. Are u even aware of what's going on in this country? So, to you 150k is money. And after earning that 150k running helter and skelter answering Yes sir yes sir, you will get home and still end up running your Yamaha gen all through the night for what your so-called government supposed to be taking care of for you.

I rebuke every spirit of mediocrity in your life brother.

Talk is cheap,i have asked you how much you earn but you only launched into one useless is not your portion prayer.
Your clergies who gave you the prayer point feast on those who earn ₦35k a month through their tithe, but a jobless you who never earn the ₦150k your so much talked down on still dey live in dreamland.
I am cork sure you don't work and you do not have people that earn salaries around you,if not you would have known that a graduate level entry salary does not exceed ₦83k before tax.

If you are going to Canada, go as a student or as a permanent resident. Even as PR, you may have to do odd jobs for few months. Some get on their feet within a year, some don't even in 3 years.....But with persistence ,prayers. good network, certifications, and further education, you will surely get better. You may have to start from the scratch. It is not as easy as being portrayed in Canada. Go to a cheaper province instead of the urge to live in Toronto or Vancouver. Don't buy a new car or rent an expensive apartment.

If you are going to the US, go as a student and for a STEM degree that allows you to stay in the US for few years and be hopeful you will be on H1 B visa and get an employer that will sponsor you. If you are rich and can afford EB5 visa, then you can do whatever in the US. Most Nigerians go to the US on visiting visa and they expect they will become a millionaire overnight. Your immigration status in the US will determine how easy life is for you. Nigerians do a lot of things to 'regularize' their status in the USA........most are under the table arrangement and personally I won't advise such.

UK is dicey. You need to be a top talent to get a good job after study. It is not all that easy, but some people still make it after graduate studies.

I will advise Canada and USA, but know that your first one year may be challenging and this is the essence of the proof funds required for study and immigration.
Build your CREDIT history in Canada if you are a PR. Borrow and pay as at when due and increase your limit. You can borrow and invest in Nigeria.......This is what many folks in Canada are doing right now.

Above all, the advantages are there so also the disadvantages.....only that advantages outweigh the disadvantages if your status is legal. People are having a good life in Canada and USA and some people are living in regret. Some are having it hard in Nigeria and some are living the best of their lives here.
You need to ask yourself some critical questions and you have to manage your expectations.

I delayed my relocation to Canada because of a project here........I have my family members there and they are part of the lucky ones who are able to buy their houses within 3 years of relocation and are doing fine. But, you don't want to know how much they are OWING.....A good debt they call it because they have good jobs and good credit history and they are not 'expected' to clear the debt now......One of them is looking for business to do in Nigeria and also keen to come back as he now has his Canadian passport.

I will relocate to the USA because of my wife and kids as soon as I can afford EB5 visa while I continue to work on my business in Nigeria.

I will say this, if you don't have much to do in Nigeria and there is no hope of something coming up irrespective of your age, please japa if you have the means, albeit legally.

If you have a good job here and you want to travel because of your children, have a plan and be resilient as you may have to do some odd jobs before you get a good job. There are testimonies of friends that got fantastic jobs within few weeks.

Above all, let God and good planning lead you.

Your comment is very informed and mature. Thank you

What is the minimum wage in Nigeria and in the USA?

Abeg, people should stop this rubbish of comparing Nigeria with these countries.

Nigeria no be country o. Wait until u have an emergency health issue in Nigeria, u will die except there is special grace.
Most of ur health care in Nigeria are dumbing ground. Most hospitals don't even have enough beds for people. Like u will wait for ur turn to use beds grin

People think that life starts and ends with their income. We are talking about facilities which are pry duty of govt. They are none functional in Nigeria abeg.

As we dey talk, my area have not seen electricity for five days now angry

Nigeria is chaotic. Na una wey dey disturb una selves with building of houses, buying plenty cars and doing all that shit when u reach abroad that make it look like they aren't doing well.

Anyone who is comfortable with living quite comfortable, will never regret leaving Nigeria. Na when u dey find money, plenty money to shock people in Nigeria and buy plenty cars, that is when u begin mount pressure on ur self.

Thank you. Shiiithole zombies generally are extremely greedy zombies.....

All these things you wrote down don't happen in Nigeria. Stop reading rubbish online. Since I was born I don't know anyone who was kidnapped. Nigerians like recycling rubbish like parrots. There are more kidnapping going on in America than the whole of Africa
1stGenAmerican:

Will their connections stop their children from being kidnapped? Will their connections allow them to travel by car without having to pay armed security?

Travel to Uncertainties? If their house catches on fire in Nigeria, is there a fire station less than a mile away? Will firemen come out within 5-10 minutes free of charge to save their lives? No.Life in Nigeria is the definition of uncertainty.

Why would one leave a lucrative job to go abroad and work menial jobs?. If combined family income is up to N1 million naira monthly perhaps no need to move

Not all abroad is "abroad". Choose the country wisely - it is triple hard when the country is not English speaking.

Be careful how you get into the country.

Understand that in your first year you will be tested, but it gets better. Take advantage of ALL the social assistance programs available. Electricity support to pay for electric bills eg OESP, Rent support to pay for rent, Works assistance to help you get by while you look for work, University loan assistance e.g OSAP to go to school to upgrade, Food banks/ Churches for free food, Salvation army for free food and clothes and utensils, Provincial help for furniture. Equipass for reduced transportation costs - splits transport cost in half. Do not raise shoulders, take the assistance first. If you have children below 18 apply for CCB, every child is paid 500-600 CAD monthly. OHIP for free healthcare. Do not compare yourself with anyone in your first year(This is for Canada)

Edited to add: Find and join a Nigerian Telegram or whatsapp group for your area. They will help you.

Do not do a menial job more than 6 months, even 3 months of menial work is enough to show employers that you have Canadian experience, Even if you came in as a refugee, take a loan/grant and study to be a PSW/CNA, take a loan and buy a car and drive uber or apply to work in a call center.

Please do u live in Canada, I wish to speak with you privately.

I have lived in Canada since 2001, If anyone tells you that live was too hard for them in Canada that was why they moved back to Nigeria, it is either they are just lazy poor planners or because they have something tangible they can count on in Nigeria to help them back up again. Canada is not heaven life is hard anywhere on earth it is not easy anywhere on earth. The difference is that with careful planning and hard work you are sure to achieve your goals, all the resources one need to succeed are available and reliable. Imagine a country where the government support your College and University education if you can't afford it, including paying for your feeding, rent/mortgage, and other living expenses for you and your family. This is done for all citizens and permanent resident without any iota of discrimination, irrespective of your background. And upon graduation they give you one year before you pay back only between 20 to 25% of what they gave you. And payment is done at your own term. This is just one aspect, such support is there too if you are into business. I can't even imagine someone leaving Canada for Nigeria with those terrible living conditions in that country even with all the money in the world.

This is the mistake most people keep making, do not convert Dollar to Naira. What i expected from you is the $1500 dollar for the 2 Bedroom flat readily available by the payer per month? If he can afford it from his work, then it's ok.
Monogamy:

May be unnecessary bills.. 2 bdr apartment in Usa, not furnished oo, standard one is from $1500 per month.. How much is that in Naira? How much is 2bdr apt per annum in Nigeria?

A friend of mine that left the country 3 years ago is now building a duplex in warri. His brother is married to an Irish and a citizen so he helped him secure a job. His salary right now due to exchange rate is almost 1.5 million a month.

Truth be told your friend is a poor man convert 1.5 million to pound then you will be shocked to your bone marrow now subtract all his bills hardly will he even have 200k left with him ...your friend might have just borrow money abroad and start buisness in Nigeria same thing one of my uncle who work in an oil company in Texas did...it is this buisness that is booming that he use to build in warri I can never and ever live in Ireland for 1.5 million it just impossible even an Uber driver will be living more comfortable than me.abroad is not easy like people think ...my uncle in tx despite being an accountant in a very big oil company still had to buisness in Nigeria send accidents cars to sell et al like that
Abroad is actually 75% and 25% there is 75% chance you will live an average life/broke life abroad I know a beggar in Lagos that have two houses...my sister he is JUST A BEGGAR his family annex the money he made from begging and built a house am just being real with you it always grace sis kiss

Why would anyone leave Nigeria to travel to countries like Cyprus, Malta, Greece for greener pasture?? That’s insane.

You only visit those places for tourist reasons.
Abroad to me means US, Uk, Canada then France and Germany if you can overcome the linguistic barriers.

I went to Athens and I was filled with sadness seeing many Nigerians jobless and frustrated.
You’d see them at Syntagma square with drums.
Those are beautiful places if you are a tourist. Lots of archeological sites to visit and learn but never places for the average Nigerian to emigrate to.

Just like they say, information is power.

I sometimes regret moving abroad. God has been faithful to me and my family. Since we moved, I have not worked any menial job and own my own house and relatively comfortable but something about Nigeria keeps ringing in my head. May be it's where I come from (In the North), my people are generally not keen on living abroad indefinitely. I haven't moved back because I am yet to find something comparable to what I left before moving but I will start working on it in the coming months.

That is the it. Our people are generally greedy and want to buy all the cars and build all the houses.
As for me, as long as I'm comfortable and can feed, anything other thing is a plus. The most important thing for me is for my life to be secured, for me to have access to quality education and for govt to have schemes that give me options about quality education, for me to have access to clean water, proper housing system, and quality health care, modern transportation systems, justice when I need it, etc. These are what govt should be doing.

Abroad is sweet but comes with a price. If you want to hammer you must be I repeat you must be in the medical field or ICT field. If you are not in these fields, any job you are doing is slavery. You are actually working for the system. If you are sending money back home, you can buy land but it would take sometime to build. Your counterparts in Nigeria would hustle, build house, marry with kids, buy cars just with one breakthrough while you are slaving away and collecting hatred aka racism on top. That's why our guys bulk under pressure and start doing BEC scam.

This is one thing I have noticed.

Seems like most people I know that are based in abroad are either in the ICT or medical line.
