You will always go to Onitsha because the city is a major transportation hub in the entire eastern region. People from Asaba, Awka, Enugu, Owerri, etc usually troop to Onitsha to join Lagos or Abuja bus.

What happened to you is an isolated case, next time go to the major transportation companies at Upper Iweka like GUO, AGOFURO, GOD IS GOOD, ABC, CHISCO, etc. They are many.

sydneyboss:

The driver is part of them, I experienced them coming to lag from onitsha , one I got to that park , they dragged my luggage from me and put in their vehicle that the bus is going to lagos, I almost accepted but the manner in which they collected my bags and even threatened me made me decide I won't go. Thats where the problem started, on top my luggage they where fighting me , made me pay 6k in duress, even d driver collect slap join from this touts, the funny part is they put some people in the bus to look like the bus is almost filled up but all of them are touts including the lady there.

I met the driver and told him my mind is not willing to travel with them that I need to go, the driver insisted I will go with them, before I had to make a call to my brother who happens to be a soldier in onitsha, he told me to put the phone and loudspeaker and told me to collect my money from them or he will come collect it himself, to cut it short , they gave me 5k instead of 6k. I just enter bus to asaba to follow God is good. Never in my life will I go to onitsha again

"All roads"
I know them. Their ticket doesn't have specific destination (it has four to five cities in it). They have been doing that thing since time immemorial. They operate at down flyover at Chisco park opposite the old faith park that ANSG cleared. They are always fight ready.
Their target is non Indigenes.
Mr OP sorry for your experience. This is why we need Biafra. Police is part of them. They operate opposite police Checkpoints.
Their other stands are opposite side of the flyover facing Main market road, another towards ITC Park and another again before city park as you are about to detour obodo ukwu Road.
Everybody knows them. They are protected by the Police. They can beat you up if you enter their trap. Once you enter, it is either you wait for many hours for them to get more victims or you forfeit your money.
Their targets are those going to Lagos, Benin, Osun, Ekiti, Owerri, Portharcourt and Delta. For some reasons they avoid Aba. They charge times 3 of the normal fare, charge for any load even hand bag and lavish insults on the complainants.
They carry even those that are not going to their destination and drop them at junctions where they colleagues are and balance the victim any amount they like. If the victim complains their colleagues at that location will beat hell into that person. For example they can carry someone going to Warri in Lagos destined bus and drop that person before Agbor Junction where their men are. They have syndicates that occupy the bus when you come, making it look like it is a normal bus.
Once again, sorry for your experience

I had a bitter experience at Upper Iweka Park the last time I traveled to Onitsha. I crossed the road only to be rounded by some agberos claiming I have broken the rule by not using the pedestrian bridge... Meanwhile several people were crossing the road same way I did, I called thier attention to that, and they said they have no business with them.
I started shouting angrily at them, but they were adamant that my fine is #5,000... I ended up giving then #3,000 with abeg abeg..

I spent N12,000 in Onitsha driving in my car...

It's a useless place. Some parts of their market do same thing to buyers like that motor park

I had a similar experience two times but refused to pay for the fares.

I wasn't at peace going with such buses.

I normally use a delayed tactics to evade them either by pricing the fares below what they offer or asking for a nearby ATM or POS to zoom off.

The last time, I had to squeeze #100 into the hands of the agbero that wanted to snatch my bag and he became calm while I crossed to the other side of the road.

Since then, I have stopped giving them hint of my whereabouts whenever I move around with bags.

Agbero: Lagos, Abuja etc

Me: Thank you, I just returned from Kaduna.

Thanks to OP. I have been thinking on how to share this same message across.

It happened 2020/2021 during my fiancee's NYSC in Anambra. She called and shared same story just as the OP wrote. She was almost shedding tears.

LAGOS IS NOT AS BAD AS THIS. That was the first thing that comes to my mind.

They keep tarnishing the image of the State.

I traveled yesterday from the southwest to attend a wedding in Owerri. I got to onitsha around 12 noon because of the vehicle. I have been directed to take keke to peace park. I took keke from the park, but the keke guy took I and the lady with me to another pack. On getting there, I was still confused because I didn't see the name 'peace' there. The guys there cut the ticket and wrote 2550 to Owerri... As I was trying to tell him No... Some guys came trying to harass the lady... Creating fear by trying to hijack her bag... So, she ran and said we should pay for the vehicle... The guy took us to the vehicle in disguise that he was trying to protect us saying onitsha is now bad... We paid and met some people in the vehicle.

To cut the story short... That same keke and another kept bringing people for them and they harass them that way. Once u enter that park... U can't go out... U will pay for the ticket under duress. We left there past 2pm....It was later I discovered the driver and vehicle was hijacked too... He was given 1k and they took the rest. The keke guys were positioned for it. They collected double money from some women, made them cry and they paid again. They vehicle was going to owerri, they took bayelsa and Portharcourt passengers and collected huge money but will not go with them.

One of those criminals said they can't be reported to the police because police is a syndicate too... In fact, I discovered that all the people we met in the vehicle were part of the team of criminals. The name on the ticket is 'All Roads park'.

I have not had this experience before... Lagos is not as worse as this from my experience. There is a big park beside this people, and nobody is rebuking them from this evil. They extort, hijack and make women weep. It is a terrible business...

How many of us have encountered such?

Don't pay the fare first observe the vehicle you want to board very well, if care is not taken you will spend more than six hours and later leave the money you pay for them. I have experience it before.

Something similar happened to me at that Onitsha as well. I was trying to take a bus from Onitsha to Benin. They somehow hustled me to a bus and tried to get me in by force. Then others came to me and surrounded me and started saying things like "Onitsha boys are fighting with whoever and blah blah". Some came close enough to try and pick my pocket. I had to go ballistic on all of them and pushed the one inching close to my pocket off. I stood my ground on my refusal to enter the bus and showed them I was ready to get down and dirty as well. Eventually, they backed off. And I walked away

Thank you having time to share this , This people are terrible. The first time I encounter them I was going to Lagos. They come to force me inside the vehicle causing duress. I challenge them back until they left me.

Another experience was terrible they were to many for me I had to give in,but I had to pretend telling the driver I don't have any more money on knowing fully well I have paid for the budget and exact fare amount to Lagos. They do all they could to intimate me, I told them the money I gave is all I have. After all dragging they don't have a choice than to allow me. One person in the park even volunteer to balance the payment for me. Honestly these people are criminal the security agency should look in to this matter, traveller are suffering in the hands of these useless people. These are actions that give this tribe bad names. They can do anything for money. The government should intervene as a matter of urgency.

The truth is that Aba is a jungle compare to Onitsha or Lagos. Onitsha is a major transportation hub in the east, so it is for you to insist on going to the major transportation companies in the city to board vehicle.
