Re: Should Husband And Wife Have A Joint Account? by Bola146(f):
lipsrsealed it's very risky at the beginning, you can now determine that if the parties are trustworthy to each other. But it is good to do separate accounts

For what reason exactly?
Except your wife is the breadwinner and you need to keep a tab on her spending, I don't see a reason strong enough to necessitate the need for a joint savings account amongst couples.

But if you must have a joint acount with your wife, then the mandate on it MUST be that she will have to co-sign with you while you can sign alone on it.
The transaction alerts should also go to you alone.

Giving your wife financial autonomy or financial superiority is like buying a bullet for the assassin who has been paid to kill you.

It takes one daddy G.O with a good tongue, a sweet fvckboy or a bad mother inlaw and you're done for.

Back to the topic, there is no need for a joint account, I no want unnecessary headaches in the future
Re: Should Husband And Wife Have A Joint Account? by Nazgul:
Just avoid anything that will bring unnecessary problem in your marriage.

Having joint account will definitely lead to problems cos when you deposit 2m and your wife has 150k in the account but makes a withdrawal of 800k my brother the kind para way you go para eh!

Better operate separate account to avoid stories that touch.

My girlfriend has always been better with finances than me. She's very prudent.

When we get married, I would definitely put her in charge of our finances.

So my good friend, the most prudent person concerning money should be in charge.

That's my advice

It's not bad, especially if one person is more prudent than the other
Re: Should Husband And Wife Have A Joint Account? by Kobicove(m):
Bad idea as far as I'm concerned!

I may consider opening an account with her for a specific purpose but I will never agree to hand over my whole finances to her

I hope you know that it's much easier to manipulate women...

The day one of these end time pastors gets into your wife's head she will donate the whole family savings to him undecided

Never

Men lead
Women follow

Marriage isn't a partnership, the man is the dominant gender and the woman is the submissive gender. The man's job is to protect, provide and give parental investment

Nope,this your submission doesn't follow.

Every relationship is unique, to that effect every family should deal with what works for them.

1. A family may do well when the woman handles finances, so the joint account is overseen by the woman and she gives a statement of credits and spending by month end.

This will work in a setting where the man is a high risk taker there by a good earner and doesn't do well with savings, most times you'll find men like this settling with ladies who's risk appetite is not as much as theirs and handles money better.

2. A family will do well if the man happens to manage finances better than the woman, he earns well and equally handles money better than the woman, so in this case the woman makes a budget and bring to him, he then funds it.

Above all, trust should be built in all long term relationships and everyone should be open and seek the best interest of the relationship rather than self.

Words on a marble. Most women aren't sensitive with spendings though, reason most men don't go with their wives to shopping malls often bc they know what exactly they will do, lol

Let me share little story here:
A cousin of mine was brainwashed by cone men who obliged her to bring all her money so she can get fortune. She actually gave them all the whole money she had and even started looking for extra money to give them. Now imagine she was in charge of a joint account if the family money won't vaporise. Yes, most women are easy to deceive to obtain money from, be it in the church, or by cone men, though not all.

My brother oil day your head Wella.

I fall into this category of good earner but poor in savings.

I don't mind clearing my account to invest in something worthwhile. I no get joy with savings, just hope my woman will be better at it.

Let's both have

a personal account & a joint account

we can be putting agreed sum of money into joint account and use accordingly...

It doesn't interfere with the personal account grin

There is no clear cut formula for a happy marriage.

Like my coconut headed friend Pocohantas would say, Honesty and the willingness to make it work is what is required.

My girl makes better financial plans and decisions. She's very prudent.

It would be foolish for me to be in charge of our finances. That's a disaster for our future family.

I'm just being honest grin

It works for some, brings confusion and discord for others, some won't even give it a thought, there is really no template to this. But why have a joint account, when one or even both couples will have a secret personal account.
