Authorities in Niger have confirmed the deaths of 4 soldiers and 5 civilians, while at least 40 militants were killed yesterday in clashes between the country’s army and terrorists in the western part of the country near the border with Mali. .

A statement from the Ministry of Defense said a large number of militants attacked a town called Tchoma Bangou around 3 a.m. Sunday, prompting security forces to take immediate action to protect civilians from the attackers.

Police allegedly torture 33-year old breadwinner to death in Bauchi

A 33-year old breadwinner has allegedly been tortured to death by a combined team of policemen attached to the Yelwa Division and a vigilante group in Bauchi State.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the deceased, Dauda Danladi, was arrested by the team of security agents in front of his shop located in Yelwa Kagadama, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis around 9pm on Thursday.

He was said to have been taken to the Yelwa Division, where he was allegedly tortured to death.

When our correspondent visited the house around 6pm on Friday, family members and several sympathisers were seen weeping.

An eyewitness, Liatu Nuhu, who sells groundnut milk and rice gruel close to the shop of the deceased said the police and the vigilante arrived in Gestapo style and started arresting people indiscriminately.

Nuhu said, “I was doing my business when, suddenly, the police and some vigilantes came, more than 10 of them, and started arresting people. The Divisional Police Officer got out of the vehicle and directed them, ‘Arrest him! Arrest him!’

“And that was how they arrested the boys playing snooker, others who were chatting and the deceased who was standing in front of his shop. We kept telling them not to arrest him, we told them that he was our neighbour here and we knew him to be someone of good character. We asked why they would arrest him, but they still took him away.”

Nuhu added, “Today (Friday) in the morning, we went to the police station around 7am, they told us to stay at a far distance and wait for the DPO to come to the office. So, I decided to go to my place of work.

“By 10.15am, I returned, only for me to see the deceased’s wife crying profusely. When I asked her what happened, she told me that her husband was dead.”

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State, Sylvester Alabi, told journalists on the phone that five people were arrested with a revolver pistol in the area.

He said two of them were later released because they were found innocent while the other two were still being held at the Police station.

“The deceased was not even part of them, he was about 200 metres ahead. He was gasping for breath in his business place and the police assisted him to the hospital and then, he died.

“If police had not assisted him to the hospital, people would have said they are bad people. The police now assisted, now na wahala (sic).”

“I have told the PPRO to go to the media and tell people the correct version of the story,” he stated.

As of the time of filing this report, 7.30pm, the PPRO has yet to make any official statement.

40 Barrel don start for here.

I noticed the Military now prefer 40barrel to normal Big Artillery. Back in 2017-2019 it was more of the Big Bofor Guns.

Is 40 barrel more precise on targeted areas?

ISWAP has struck 10 times( Ambush and some FOBs) in my LGA this month and last month. Tho them never near my Brigade.

REVEALED: All 44 Candidates On Nigerian Navy Supplementary List Under Buhari Government Are Northerners

Successful candidates on the list were drawn from core Northern states with only a few from North Central (Kogi and Niger states).

An official of the Service, who spoke with SaharaReporters said such a thing had never happened in the history of the service.

He noted that the Nigerian Navy had always ensured equal representation of all the regions in all its lists, both primary and supplementary, querying why the latest one had not accommodated all the regions.

He said, “Normally, after recruitment, they release a list and those people on that list will go for training, they divide the list into two, Batch A and B.

“They released a supplementary list recently and this has never happened before that all the names on that list will be from the North, 44 candidates. They are not just from the North but mainly from the core North.

“In the normal recruitment list, every state is usually given equal number but I don't know why this is different. This supplementary list Batch A has resumed, Batch B will resume in January. These are the few people that will join those that are already there. As far as it is supplementary, every zone and state should be included.

"The former ones they did, all states were included in equal numbers except the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); the FCT is the only one that usually gets lesser slots because most of those using FCT to apply are not from there.

“My question is, why is this supplementary list representing only the North. It should represent all parts, not just a particular region.”

The standard MLRS you are talking about is far less precise than normal artillery. Its mainly meant for area harassment.
Think of it like firing shotgun into the forest at your backyard hoping to hit something.

NIGERIAN NAVY
PRESS RELEASE

12 July 2021

PUBLIC ADVISORY ON A FAKE SECTIONAL SUPPLEMENTARY LIST OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES IN NIGERIAN NAVY RECRUITMENT

1. The attention of the Nigerian Navy has been drawn to a purported sectional list of supplementary candidates in the Nigerian Navy recruitment exercise trending online and amplified by an online newspaper of questionable integrity.

For the avoidance of doubt, the list is fake and did not emanate from the Naval Headquarters.

The public is therefore advised to treat the list as a pitiable ploy of mischief makers and idle minds intent on creating ill-feelings amongst the Nigerian public thereby stoking sectional and religion sensibilities.

The Nigerian Navy is currently exploring legal means of seeking redress over this mischievous story

2. Additionally, members of the public are advised to visit www.joinnigeriannavy.com for authentic information on Nigerian Navy recruitment exercises.

Sahara reporters released their own list. I believe the Nigerian Navy should have released the original list when releasing this press statement. They have nothing to lose in releasing the list.

Police and military officers are subject to civil law...
Under our laws, The criminal code for the South and the penal code for the North and all other state laws, provides for anyone who commits murder or culpable homicide punishable with death, the person "is " liable to the punishment of death...
The use of "is" means the punishment can be reduced to fit circumstance e.g, killing cuz of Provocation...
This laws apply to all including police, military et ..
Hence the law is there already...

A lot of Policemen are walking free because they will say is "an accidental discharge". There should be a law that states if there is an accidental discharge the security personnel should be sentence to death or life imprisonment.

Jihadists Wipe Out All Male Christians In Two Nigerien Towns, Women Flee

Jihadists in Niger Republic have wiped out all the male Christians in Fantio and Dolbel, two towns in the Tillabéri region in the south west.

Survivors of the attack, a group of women, with small children and babies fled to the Dori region of Burkina Faso.

AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED (ACN), which reported the attacks, quoted the women as saying the terrorists attacked the towns twice, killing the men.

The two towns were abandoned by the rest of the inhabitants.

In Fantio, the jihadists took a statue of the Virgin Mary, liturgical books and musical instruments and burned them.

They then desecrated the Blessed Sacrament by throwing the sacred hosts on the ground and finally setting the church on fire.

This is the third parish in this part of Niger that has been abandoned due to terrorist attacks and incursions by extremist groups.

Survivors of the attacks fled to Niamey, the capital, to seek refuge in the parish of Téra, or cross the border into the Diocese of Dori in Burkina Faso.

Islamist terrorist groups began to extend their reach into Burkina Faso and Niger in 2015.

According to ACN’s Religious Freedom in the World Report 2021, the area has become one of the hotspots for militant jihadism in Africa.

In the meantime, the number of internally displaced persons in Burkina Faso has grown to about one million.

The prosecution can show intention or Negligence on the part of the officer who handled the rifle.
Beside, the alleged crime that led to this discussion, is not one of weapon discharge, but deliberate beating.

Look at the way the commissioner of police is already protecting his men. If I b GMB, I go direct the IGP to first discharge am dishonourably grin
