During the series of jos crisis, I know of guys who got charged to IHL for accidental discharge, I also know of guys that got dismissed from the army because they could not account for their ammo or misplaced a couple of rounds, even if it was not intentional.

I believe bidexiii would be able to relate in terms of how strict rules of engagement from that time was.

I watch the graduation ceremony speech made by the GOC of 3div for course 45.
He said a young officer posted to camp Buratai, he deserted for 400+ days, when he returned his unit did not want to properly charge him.

The NA needs to take disciplinary actions as a priority.

Some of the things we overlook this days are dismissal offense a few years ago.

We have good soldiers today but the Cortese is no more there in most cases.

Southern Kaduna: Herdsmen kill 100 people in six days, houses, valuables destroyed

The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), has lamented that suspected armed Fulani herdsmen have killed not less than 100 Atyap natives in the last six days.

They said about 24 villages were also burnt and hundreds of hectares of farmland bearing growing food crops destroyed.

The spokesman of SOKAPU, Luka Binniyat, in a statement said, “For the 6th day running, armed gunmen, identified as Fulani herdsmen by victims, laid siege to several communities in Atyap land, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area (LGA) of Southern Kaduna and left no less than 33 people dead in an ongoing genocide and land grabbing in which 108 Southern Kaduna communities have been displaced and taken over by them since 2019.”

He explained that in the latest orgy of bloodshed, the invaders stormed Magamiya village in the night around 11pm and attacked the family compound of the traditional ruler of Atyap Chiefdom, Agwatyap of Atyap Chiefdom, Sir Dominic Yahaya and other households were looted of valuables and foodstuffs into waited Hilux before setting the buildings on fire, while a 70- year old traditional ruler, Mr Toma Tauna was killed.

The statement further explained that the same assailants attacked Matyei village and 156 homes were all burnt, the Catholic Church in Matei and its pastorium were also burnt, the Catchiest, simply known as Catchiest Yau, and an infant, were killed in the attack, while six (6) other persons were killed in the violence that lasted for over an hour.

The statement stated that the armed Fulani herdsmen then went down to Abuyab Community about 500 metres away and burnt down ECWA church, the home of Former ECOMOG Field Commander, Maj. Gen. Shekari Billyok (rtd) and other homes, adding that their attempt to attack Runji Community was repelled by villagers who got reinforcement elsewhere.

According to the statement, as they retreated, they attempted to destroy part of the main bridge linking the communities with Zangon Kataf town and other Atyap Communities.

It said the same armed herdsmen came in Hilux vans and attacked the Atyap of Makarau and Kachechere Communities leaving 10 people confirmed dead, 12 houses burned after looting them, stressing that the ECWA Church and the Anglican Church pastoriums that serves the communities were set ablaze.

It said in a nutshell, “20 Atyap natives were killed by attackers (who all the villagers that saw them) identified as armed herdsmen between afternoon and today’s morning, Tuesday, 13 July, 2021.”

The statement explained that “in the past 6 days, at least 33 Atyap natives of Zangon Kataf Area were massacred, 4 churches and 215 homes burnt by assailants always identified as armed herdsmen in a genocidal campaign that became so intensive since 2016.”

SOKAPU condemned what it described as “this wicked act and the complicit silence and inaction of government from taking steps to bringing the perpetrators and their leaders to justice”.

The statement said the Atyap people have been consistent in accusing the Hausa settlers of Zangon Kataf semi urban town of harbouring killer herdsmen, lamenting that yet no authority has done anything about it.

SOKAPU called for humanitarian assistance for the thousands of displaced Atyap women and children who are still moving away from several villages to various places around Samaru Kataf, Zonkwa and environs.

SOKAPU also called on NEMA and SEMA to provide immediate relieve materials to the displaced persons.

It called on the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, Amnesty Internationals, the United Nations and all relevant international organizations, to mount pressure on the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Governments to stop the genocide in Atyap land and bring the culprits to justice.

So what are your takes on the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam situation? I've spoke to Ethiopians irl and on the internet and many believe that Egypt & Sudan will just sit there and take it with no action. I've even spoke to some that believe that the Ethiopian Airforce can defend against any Egyptian attempt on the Dam. lipsrsealed.

One guy even told me that if Egypt successfully attacked the dam Ethiopia would blow up the Aswan Dam and occupy Cairo. shocked grin When I sked many why are they so confident in Ethiopia's ability to take on Egypt after their defeat in the Tigray region they typically say something like "Egypt has never won a war" or "Do you know our history we defeated Egypt many times in the PAST". grin

According to just about every Black Person on Youtube if Egypt attacks Ethiopia all Sub Saharan nations and blk people across the world will declare war on Egypt. shocked grin
Also do you think Turkey take tge opportunity to try something? grin

Nope no black nation as a block will necessarily get involved except the ones Ethiopia enjoys bilateral relations with and none of which in East Africa has the muscle to stand Egypt.

Ethiopia is not Nigeria. The current Prime Minister and government in Addis Ababa is asking for too much. He's already been taught a lesson by the tribe or region that is really the fighting elements in all of Ethiopia and across Eritrea as well. Which is why they tactically called off the offensive because in a wider war it will take all of Ethiopia's military industrial complex to sustain a war against Egypt for a long period. Winning that war is not guaranteed either on both sides even though Egypt may do the most damage. None of those countries have what it takes from human intelligent resources (Ethiopia a lot better here though) to money (Egypt better here with Arab sponsors) to have the knockout punch power. Also don't forget this is not the Ethiopia of Meles Zenawi.

The images coming from SA is quite shameful and embarrassing

That country is a shame. I should say a disgrace but I guess we Nigerians are not like the Southies here. We have no glee over the misfortunes of our fellow Africans especially that will help liberate them from slavery. But it doesn't help they want to measure d.ick with us though we since made strides that clearly set us apart as a geopolitical regional power.

Rwanda in Mozambique as a case in point though not entirely South Africa's making as no one exactly knows what President Nyusi of Mozambique has got to hide in the Cabo Delgado province (I suspect corruption) but it does show the limits of South Africa's power and influence in Southern Africa and Africa.

Such a thing wouldn't happen in Nigeria's backyard. When the Angolans tried such rubbish in Guinea Bissau we spoke in the language they understood using many levers of intelligence, soft and hard power to make them scurry off in a hurry in disgrace. Someone also tried to poke the nose in Bangui, CAR and well certain painful things happened.

It beholves of South Africa to do something about Mozambique and the terrorists there. If not it has no business being considered or perceived one of the regional powers in Africa.
If Rwanda does it's a shame but what do we care Rwanda is another extension of Nigeria's military influence in the SADC region of Africa.

Nigeria commissions Falcon Eye maritime domain awareness system

Written by Guy Martin -14th Jul 202142

Nigeria has commissioned the Israeli-designed Falcon Eye maritime domain awareness system to monitor the country’s territorial waters and track movements within the broader Gulf of Guinea maritime zone.

It was commissioned by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on 13 July at the Nigerian Naval Headquarters in Abuja. He said the Falcon Eye system generates real-time situational awareness of maritime activities off Nigeria’s coastline.

Falcon Eye is a mass surveillance system that uses a number of radars, electro-optic systems and cameras operated from a command centre. It was designed in Israeli but manufactured by United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based Falcon Technologies. The company also manufactures unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

After a contract was signed in 2014, installation began more than five years ago at strategic points within the country’s territorial waters and the Gulf of Guinea, and was due to be completed in 2016 but the project was delayed.

Osinbajo said Falcon Eye “will enable the Nigerian Navy generate a comprehensive intelligence picture of activities within our maritime environment for further analysis before, in appropriate cases, dispatching a Nigerian Navy Ship for interdiction, investigation, and/or subsequent arrest of erring vessels…It will also enable the Nigerian Navy to effectively combat any maritime crimes that could disrupt the conduct of maritime trade.”

He explained that Nigeria loses around $26 billion a year to criminality, particularly piracy and sea robbery, which underscores the need to enhance maritime security architecture.

“The Falcon eye system is a state-of-the-art surveillance facility that incorporates various sensors located along the nation’s enormous coastline, such as radars, long range electro optic systems with thermal or night vision capability, Automatic Identification System receivers, weather stations and marine very high frequency radios for communication,” Osinbajo said.

The system operates observation posts which feed information and real time imagery to a central command centre/fusion cell where information is analysed and shared with relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Ports Authority and Marine Police, amongst others.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo said the Falcon Eye system “translates to complete coverage of Nigeria’s Exclusive Economic Zone. Monitoring and analysis of data from the various sites strategically located along the nation’s coastline is facilitated through the four Falcon Eye Centers in Abuja, Lagos, Yenagoa and Calabar.

“Penitently, the coverage of the satellite aspect of the Automatic Identification System of Falcon Eye extends beyond Nigerian waters to Cote D’Ivoire at the West, Cameroon at the East, and Angola at the South East.

“This significant capability enhances the maritime projection capabilities of the country and enables the Nigerian Navy to maintain strategic partnership on information sharing, especially with navies of the Gulf of Guinea nations, as well as Indian and Italian navies.”

Osinbajo pointed out that NIMASA last month launched its Deep Blue maritime security initiative. “Between these initiatives, we have significantly increased our national capabilities in the areas of maritime surveillance and criminal interdiction within our territorial waters.”

Deep Blue and Falcon Eye will allow Nigerian authorities to monitor all movements and prevent the commission of maritime crimes such as piracy, oil theft, vandalism offshore oil infrastructure and illegal aircraft movements within the Gulf of Guinea.

Much of the aboriginal part of the country carried over that backwards mentality to this very day which what where seeing now just replace the word "LOOTERS with RAIDERS"

I know it comes down to the environment which was the most suitable for European mass colonization its climate being the most similar to Europe and the gold rush at the time but if say Nigeria(By Extension West Africa) or The Great Lakes Region had been chosen and allowed South Africa's level of early modern development instead this hypothetical "Republic of West Africa" or "Republic of Great Lakes East Africa" by now would have been a Giga Power only 4th to the USA, Russia, and China. undecided Not supporting colonialism just making a point.

Most South Africans on a personal level don't really care much about the rest of Africa and see it as one big "Central African Republic". They rather sit in there low income housing, shanties, and slums at the edge of cities and gloat about what the Afrikaners built.

Quite simplistic on both sides of opinions but in reality its a whole different ball game. The wishes on YouTube remain what they are pure fantasies. If Egypt could defeat Ethiopia based on weapon systems it would have invaded yesterday. You can start a war does not mean you decide how the war ends. Besides there's something called diplomacy, nations won't stand by and watch any war of such magnitude escalate engulfing even more nations.

No one is wiping any nation off the map, neither has the capability nor the capacity. Ethiopia is not a sitting duck. It has proven it can fight external forces. It has the advantage of demography and topography. It can quickly generate the support of external powers that have something to grind with Egypt which basically has a conscript army and hasn't really won any decisive war short of some over blown victories in battle with the Israelis. Arabs can't fight. Lots of noise but no grit and bite.

The point is it is a very costly adventure to attack that dam. There would be some detente in the long run or clearly Egypt may carry out some form of pre-emptive strike if it considers the government in Addis Ababa to be weak though I put my money more on subversive measures for now rather than direct action.

We have good soldiers today but the Cortese is no more there in most cases.
your right, I think dismissal as a form of punishment has reduced because actually the army needs more men, we currently fighting on too many fronts although this is no valid reason, the reputation of the military worsens daily due to such careless acts

Hmm this is quite cool, am currently imagining our very own ARA MRAP becoming a deadly artillery piece or even a tank destroyer

Having shiny toys alone doesn't win wars.
hmmm hope you meant Ethiopia ain't Nigeria in a good way, cause in a war with Egypt I see Nigeria doing better than Ethiopia grin after all we've won lots of wars ..

But wait o why has egypty never won a war even red sea defeated them grin

How do you do this funny gerrymandering and yet still want to achieve a fairly long lifecycle for these assets in your inventory?.
The MRAP chassis does not take the stresses of firing tank killing guns well. Someone is thinking like a kid with a video game

Of course I meant that in a good way about Nigeria obviously. I simply insinuated that Nigeria has clout and influence in Africa that would precipitate a broader support of Africa's leaders in physical manpower and resources if we were to fight a near peer foreign power something Ethiopia can't muster nor the leverage to do so. About performance Nigeria is too sophisticated, modern, powerful and advanced a military to be compared with Ethiopia. Recent perfomances in the field also buttress that fact. What the TDF did to the Ethiopian military is beyond embarrassing. Ethiopia simply doesn't have the resources.

If Nigeria enters Tigray now they would sue for peace in a fortnight. Nigeria arguably is the only military in Africa that has proven since the 60's and modern times the capability and capacity to win wars on its own terms. Though right now we have a faceless mortal enemy willing to die we don't really know his exact address despite that we have done creditably well under this new kind of assymetric warfare something attested to by the United States which has itself absconded from a similar fight in Afghanistan.

Below is the disgrace of the Ethiopian Defense Force by the TDF. A parade of Ethiopian POWs.

It seems you think fighting war is like a video game. The Nigerian army have been struggling against a ragtag Boko Haram but you feel they will be performing magic in Tigray... Issokay grin
