U said it all bro, later we go dey cry racism but the way foreign born players re being insulted atimes here shows that some of us re worst than the racist whites

No matter how disgraceful it seem to others the way some foreign born players do turn us down or delay in declaring interest in playing for us I still see nothing wrong in the nff n Rohr not giving up in luring this players

If you want to compete with the best you have the best you can boast of most especially in sports.

Coming to the local league a lot hv to be done in the area players development which must start from grassroots.

The league board should make it compulsory for our local clubs to hv academies where players re taught the basics before they turn professionals. This is the reason why grassroot clubs export players easily to Europe unlike our league clubs.

I think from next season at least 5 clubs must have an academy or
the league will not start. If we have to close down NPFL for 6 months
in order for just 5 clubs out of 20 to have an academy so be it.
Also, each year at least 3 more must have an academy or the league will not start.
Also, any club without an academy 3 to 5 years from now should be closed down.
Better to have 14 good clubs than 20 who cannot produce anything.

Also, all clubs must have a certified coach. Nobody should be allowed to
coach an Npfl team without coaching certifications.
Any team without a certified coach should be fined and banned for 2 years.

These stringent measuers have to be done to raise the standard of our league
Nigeria is a country where we do not do things that are up to global standards.
We do simple things the wrong way and expect results like beating Mexico with a home based team
We need to do things up to global standards.
Next season should be reformation season.
Also, measures should be taken for coaches to be certified and be exposed to the latest method in training.
Our teams should also be encouraged to recruit players from our football academies.
The barcelona academy in Lagos should try and cooperate with Nigerian clubs so as to transfer
some of their players there.
The local league is gradually loosing relevance and football academies like tiki taka (that produced Alhassan Yusuf),
Ebedie fc (that produced Femi Martins, Paul Onuachu, Frank Onyeka) etc seem more relevant to our football.

Anyway the chairman of the body in charge of our league (LMC) has stolen a lot of money over the last
3 to 5 years. In fact, the reason why npfl was not televised was because the money supersport put in the league
for television rights was embezzeled. The leaders of the LMC must be millonaires by now. Amaju Pinnick is generally a thief

Can we just end this classification of players into homebased and foreign based. Its a subtle form of apartheid.

The worst is that once it's mentioned, someone will immidiately start talking about NFF, Pinnick and the local league, as if the use of foreign based players is a disgrace. The league needs improvement, yes. But that has nothing to do with foreign based players.

Foreign born players and foreign based players are 2 different things entirely.

I:henacho is a foreign based player while Okoye is a foreign born player.

I:henacho is not from the local league.. it's about protecting players like nacho.

West Ham should pick this boy up please

What has Awoniyi done on loan that has been outstanding.

There is a reason he is not attracting much attention. Why would West Ham by a player who has been unable to show outstanding quality.

Oga, they had an option to buy not obligation to buy...They could have decided not to sign him after his loan expired if he didn't impress them enough... In the same way, the clubs Awoniyi played for could have tabled a bid for him the end of his loan of he impressed enough...It's pretty straight forward...

Agreed

There are more Nigerians in Nigeria than Nigerians outside Nigeria so it's about protecting the interests and opportunities of Nigerians born in Nigeria.

So why don't you make it ILLEGAL and PROHIBIT players who were born in Nigeria to go abroad to play football.

That way all opportunities to play football in. Nigeria will be reserved and secured for them and they will DEFINITELY DEVELOP into world class players playing ONLY IN NIGERIA.

What did you hear o? Micheal Edwards.

And which cave were you hiding that you didn't "hear" that Awoniyi already got his work permit since last year?

You may find it hard to believe but l have spoken to Awoniyi in the past.

He wasn't eligible then, what makes him eligible now. He has never played competitive football in England

Unless he has somehow acquired UK citizenship he will not qualify for a work permit.

In the past EU citizenship status would suffice but UK has left the EU.

So please explain and educate me.

SMH, Brewster who never played any serious league game was sold for 18mill but a proven player like Taiwo won't even be sold for half of that amount? True true English footballers are over rated

The terms of comparison are very different.

Brewster is young potential top player who did very well as a teenager for Swansea in the very physically taxing Championship. 10 goals from 20 games.

In addition ( not my particular standard) he did get the accolade as the highest goal scorer at U17 World cup. So that's indicative of very good potential.

Awoniyi has been at best " below average " on all his loan moves since his career started. He is 24 next month. He has been playing for 6 years with nothing to say he is outstanding.

I could add, I've watched both of them play and train up close and personal and my preference would be for Brewster.

I don't think Brewster is worth £20 ➕ but somebody was willing to pay.

You have so much strength to engage Andrew. He said jaoa Felix is overrated, he said ousmane dembele is over rated. Dembele as everyone knows has so much potential, he's only being held back because of injuries. He was so big coming from rennes to Dortmund. Felix, a 20 y/o carrying ATM. Havertz showed himself from the period Tuchel came in, and btw he played false 9, attacking midfield and even the flanks. Andrew Lol

There are more Nigerians in Nigeria than Nigerians outside Nigeria so it's about protecting the interests and opportunities of Nigerians born in Nigeria.

The simple solution is to invest in the league. I don't believe in reserving spots for home based players, European based players or foreign born players except at the U17 level. If we want to compete at the highest level, we need the best players whether they play in the NPFL or Europe. If we are not seeing enough NPFL players, we need to take a look at our league and its shortcomings. If the league was better, we wouldn't be having this discussion because players from the league will be able to compete at a higher level (either due to improvement in the league or the ability to move to better teams).

Yes, our football growth will be limited by the state of our nation- bad roads can make transport unsafe for club players, but there are things we can do in the short term to help. Improving facilities and televising the league are two things that can be done within the next 2 years if the LMC is serious. Televising the league will bring in money, force people to be on their best behavior and give people the freedom to play at their best. More money= more investment in players, coaches, facilities, training, youth programs, etc. Unless we address the the root of the problem we will keep coming back to this issue.

We may have missed out on Nneka Ogwumike. FIBA said she has played too much for USA although they themselves are ok with the whole situation and the new rules also allow it. Now the case is going to CAS so let's see. It would be nice for her to join her 2 sisters.

We are talking about the player's union president for the WNBA. Also just featured in LeBron James remake of Space Jam. She is a big Superstar in female basketball. If she is allowed to play we definitely are going to fight for some kind of medal at the Olympics

You Nigerians rarely make progress in this country because of sentiments

People should be given the opportunity to play out of competence and not sentiments whoever meets the qualification and can deliver should be picked

This quota system enshrined nothing but mediocrity
