If that section of the store has cylinders with lpg, and probably other flammables, the safest thing for the staff would be to stay away if they lack proper training on how to tackle such fires.

Fire spreads so fast, as you can clearly see there are like 5 or more gas cylinders at that spot alone. Of course, there could be more behind. As for the fire extinguisher, it will be very difficult to quench such fire impact @ that moment, Guy it's extremely dangerous for anyone to move too close to that spot at that moment, bcs of gas explosion. If they stay too long there there would be casualties

It wasn't just the lighters. There were gas cylinders there. If you watch the video closely again. The recording stopped when the cylinders exploded. It was instant, si you probably missed it.

Moral of the story is if you have billions of naira goods, invest in sprinklers. With all that smoke a smoke detector could have handled that part of the shop.

I personally wouldn't try off that fire because of the gas cylinders.

1) why do the cylinders have gas in them.
2) why is the burner attached to a gas cylinder and left unattended?
3) what is a 9 year old doing without supervision? The girl may have thought that it's impossible to have burners connected to the gas cylinders but more importantly she should be with her parents. Nigerians are stupidly careless with their kids, bathing them in public and sending them to school on their own exposing them to all sorts of dangers. Tufia.

That is what irks me. The supermarket shares a bigger part of the blame.

As typical as most Nigeria businesses, they may not even have insurance.

Some people in this Nigeria went to school and studied Environmental Safety. They took Health & Safety certifications, but they are jobless. Some are working in banks, not as safety officers, but as cashiers.

Every organization should have a safety officer. Especially a business like this. I am sure that staff doesn’t know how to use an extinguisher and even when they did fire drills, they took it as cruise.
